They’re funny in a movie and would probably still be funny (if unsettling) in person, but this is probably exactly how a powerful Sith should sound: never fully in control. I imagine during the scene where Palpatine is christening Darth Vader he is simultaneously in enormous pain after getting fried by his own power, getting off on said pain because of how the Dark Side works, AND extremely excited over Anakin’s willingness to turn heel. And he still has to try and keep all of it in.

I like to imagine that every time Palpatine laughs, it’s about how Yoda looked when he electrocuted him. Since that’s the first time we see him laugh for seemingly no reason. So even years later, while watching Luke and Vader fight, he’s still chuckling about how Yoda hit the wall and collapsed on the ground

Yea, he literally knocked Yoda out and won the fight in the first few SECONDS, but Jedi fans tend to overlook this. ONLY reason the fight continued was because Palpatine WANTED it to, he wanted to show Yoda he couldn't win against him. He uses the Force to lift Yoda to his feet as he wakes up, rather than just rushing in and striking him, or frying him. Damn, Sidious was THAT guy. Star Wars' version of Thanos, imo.

@@thehale_ I agree with you 100%, but you kinda misunderstood my meaning. I should have clarified: I wasn't comparing them as WHO THEY ARE, but rather how powerful they are. I never really saw Thanos as evil, especially in the Infinity Revelation series, after Infinity Wars. However, he IS a non-divine being who has trained and studied to such an extreme, plus with absolute innate genius and talent, that he is just much more powerful than practically all the "heroes" combined, and vastly smarter. Palpatine is the same. In fact, if Star Wars was made NOW, after Marvel showed you can make a "kid's" movie where the "good guys" get absolutely curb-stomped and LOSE, I believe we'd see a much different film(s), where he takes out many more masters with as much ease as Mace's 3, and where Yoda and Mace can't touch him, and it overall leaves you feeling hopeless watching it. It's fairly recent that Hollywood realized you can do that in a kid's movie, albeit rarely, but it always seemed obvious from the lore that Sidious was meant to be THAT villain, whom could never be outsmarted or beat in combat, and only loses after he won many times more, and due to luck or the heart/ goodness of the heroes. Lucas kinda dropped the ball with this character in EP 3. He wanted Samuel L Jackson's Windu to look badass and not get smoked in his first duel, and he made the fight with Yoda a bit more equal than you'd expect, knowing Sidious' power. But I digress. Yea, my original comment was comparing Thanos and Sidious' COMBAT abilities and mental intelligences. No more, no less.
