@@deveryshepardson3640 That's not quite the way Vaapad works. Matt Stover's "Clone Wars: Shatterpoint" novel describes Vaapad as a "superconducting loop" for the force. Whatever you put in is just sent right back to you with minimal effort. So blasting a Vaapad master with force lightning would be like blasting yourself with it while your opponent is basically unscathed. The problem is Vaapad is that it requires the user to straddle the edge between the light and the dark sides of the force - if there is any chance of a Jedi falling it's likely going to happen, as it did for Windu's pupil Master Depa Billaba on his homeworld Haruun Kal in the Shatterpoint novel. Incidentally for the love of god if you haven't read it please do. It's basically Apocalypse Now meets Star Wars - and I'm there for that 😁

Kenobi defeated Darth Maul when he was still a Padawan, trained the guy that defeated Count Dooku, then defeated and crippled that same guy after Palpatine turned him to the Dark Side an took him as his apprentice. Obi Wan Kenobi is my favorite type of character. His powers are middling, yet his wisdom, skill, and experience are without question. He's extremely effective and tenacious. He subtly changes the flow of major events without ever being truly recognized for his importance or potential, and he doesn't crave recognition either. As if it were by his own design, his roundabout tactics, mild manner, and aversion to violence cause people to underestimate his ability to act. And because of how easily he can go overlooked, he catches everyone off gaurd. And most importantly, he never gives up. Woe to anyone who takes him lightly, or finds themselves on the receiving end of his wit - He's the ultimate underdog, and the ultimate survivor. Obi Wan Kenobi is a true Jedi Master.

I believe everything you wrote is true, except you left things out. Obi-Wan was beyond the masters at times, the true apprentice of his master, he used his emotions and his attachments to make him stronger when he needed to. Master of his forms, wise, but he did something the others did not allow, Obi-Wan loved deeply, and when he felt thise people were in danger, or when his master was killed, he used his emotions to fuel the force, not using the dark, not exactly, the jedi wouldn't like it, but love made him stronger , that's why he'd win over and over in some situations, yet get smacked around in others, when he had no passion, like against Dooku , he'd lose quickly, but against maul for his master, against grievous to end the war and save the jedi, against anakin and then Vader his power , skill, and force abilities would skyrocket. He was a true force user in these times, not just a jedi master, he was even more then they were, he'd use his love and passion without going dark. With maul , his arrogance left Obi-Wan an opening which helped a lot, but he was using passion.

@@matiasluukkanen7718 Dooku was a dueling specialist. His entire fighting style was dedicated to defeating other lightsaber wielding Force Users…and he was a Force user who was on par with Yoda in terms of power. In AOTC, Dooku defeats both Obi-wan and Anakin with his blade…and only Yoda himself drives him off. In ROTS, Dooku just uses raw power to push through Obi-wan’s defenses and rag doll him. It’s only because Anakin has grown so powerful at this point, and is now starting to draw on the Dark Side that the same didn’t happen to him, He doesn’t defeat Dooku with skill, but just raw power. Trapping Dooku’s blade, and then severing both arms before he can recover. Like brawler getting inside the reach of a more skillful boxer. But there is a reason why Sidious chose Dooku as his first apprentice, and why Yoda considered the loss of Dooku to be such a catastrophe for the Order. That alone should tell you enough. Style #7 was Mace Windu who had the purple light saber, power behind that style and anger but was able to stay away from the dark side. Style #5 was Anakin's ... diverse with raw power, speed behind it & using the force at the same time with one free hand when given the chance. #4 I believe was Yoda a lot of flipping and versatility since he was smaller and had a shorter light saber.

Obi-Wan maxed out the efficiency of what he was able to do despite not being as 'powerful' as Anakin, Windu, or Yoda. His raw force power was weaker than theirs, but his connection to it might've been the strongest as he was able to become One with the Force and let it flow through him in combat. The perfect skill for a person who's more of a duelist than an insane force juggernaut Dueling skill wise, he's up there with Anakin, Windu, and Yoda, and is probably one of the best in the entire franchise. That combined with a tactical mind, genius battle intellect, creativity with maxing out what he's got, Obi Wan performed insane feats like beating Maul as a Padawan, taking W's in their rematches, matching and beating Legends Asajj, eventually becoming Dooku's equal in skill in RoTS, absolutely destroying Legends Grevious, beating Anakin/Vader, and even when degrading in power and skill, was able to match a calmer more experienced Vader and didn't even lose but both sacrificed himself and literally became one with the force

Tbf Obi-Wan didn't really necessarily beat Maul as a padawan under normal circumstances. Maul could've killed him at any moment, but chose to toy with him and let his guard down (somewhat similar to Anakin/Vader as he really only survived that fight due to personally knowing Anakin and baiting him into an attack he had specifically made sure he knew how to counter, not necessarily due to his skill or power). Also he wasn't really Dooku's equal in ROTS. Dooku still embarrassed him. ANH Obi-Wan was him at his strongest as he only grew in his exile (and the light side tends to grow stronger as you get older) and Vader was past his prime. Everything else is 100% true. Obi-Wan was an absolute master of using what he had to work with and is probably one of very few Jedi to actually reach their full potential.

It's more of Unstoppable Force vs Immovable Object. Anakin specializing in Form V meant he was almost purely offensive and one of the best at that form. Add in his fall the dark side and becoming Vader and you have one of the most lethal combatants on all time. But he squared off with Obi-Wan who was labeled by Windu as the Master of the form. Obi-Wan's defenses were so great that a fully enraged Vader stood no chance of breaking him down, but since he was under so much attack from Vader Obi-Wan had no chance to mount any offense. There is only one advantage in a Form V vs Form III fight and that's conservation of energy from Form III. Obi-Wan would have withstood long enough to win as his opponent fatigued if it was anyone else but Vader. Vader's rage gave him the ability to sustain his attack far longer than anyone else would have.

He also wasn't so black and white about light and dark. He was willing to work with people like Dooku and Ventriss. Obi-Wan was wise enough to know that most dark siders wanted to live more than anything. Whether they wanted to live so they could get revenge or other reasons he knew who he could count on. He was also smart enough to not turn his back on them because they would gladly kill him when they didn't need his help anymore. When Clone Wars finally showed us the last encounter with Maul is a great example of how wise Obi-Wan really was. All that Maul had taken from Obi-Wan and all the damage he did. Obi-Wan still understood it all.

I believe in the Plagueis novel, they commented that with Obi-Wan being a basically Masterless Padawan wouldn’t be up to the task of mentoring Anakin into a Jedi Knight, so Palpatine would use that towards his advantage. So, during his time talking with and reading Anakin hopes, grips and worries, Palpatine probably didn’t find much reason to reevaluate his and Plagueis’ initial conclusion. When Obi-Wan went into hiding, after defeating Anakin, he probably just wrote him off like the rest of the survivors. Obi-Wan wasn’t getting any younger, and the other Jedi hadn’t presented Darth Vader with much beyond experience points.

But, to honor Qui-Gon’s request for Anakin to be trained as a Jedi, the allowed him to be apprenticed by Obi-Wan, promoting him to Jedi Knight for the task. So, from Plagueis and Sidious’ perspective Obi-Wan was not only a Jedi Knight by technicality, a Knight promoted before merit, but also one without a Master. So Anakin’s Master was a masterless Padawan. And the general assumption was that Knights spent years under a Master’s guidance. Perhaps that's true, from a certain point of view (pun intended) but he wasn't the perfect Master to his padawan. I'm not trying to shit on Obi-Wan, as he is my favorite character, but you gotta admit that he largely contributed to Anakin's turn to the dark side. Their whole dynamic in AotC really shows that Obi-Wan failed to be strict enough, and understanding enough as a teacher. To be fair you can't really blame him, since he became Anakin's master without entirely finishing his own training (RIP Qui-Gon) and also because he had to be a mentor to him during very troubled times, during which he had many other matters to attend to.

One of the things that bothered me was the disrespect at times Anakin showed Obi Wan. And Obi ultimately achieved great power in the force, that he then became a force ghost and therefore, lives forever (something Palpatine greatly wanted). I agree, not Jordan or Kobe, but Tim Duncan, well played sir, on the sports analogy, works well here. 🙂👌🏼 A great champion, that is not flashy, works hard and super disciplined, that ppl truly underestimate in their raw gifts, until you look up in awe, and see what they actually achieved, overall.

Obi-wan was a example of what a Jedi master who is completely surrendered to The Force looks like. He defeated Greivous. He defeated Darth Vader because he could root himself in the Light, in a way that was unshakeable. So he could draw whatever he needed, and do whatever the Will of The Force required of him. Even to willingly sacrificing himself so that Luke could escape the Death Star. OTOH, the Dark Side comes to dominate a Sith. Ultimately blinding them to their own flaws and limitations. Maul gloated over seemingly helpless Obi-wan, creating the opening he needed to defeat Maul as a padawan. Grievous was helpless against Jedi that he couldn’t intimidate and use fear to weaken their connection to the Force. On Mustafar Vader tried to use blind rage and raw power to overwhelm Obi-wan, only to have the Jedi Master accept the beating until Vader made a near-fatal error born of Dark Side fueled arrogance. On the Death Star, a more cautious and cunning Vader tried to use contempt and mockery to weaken Obi-wan’s stance in the Force. Only to have Obi-wan toy with him and use the Sith Lord to advance the Will of the Light at his expense. Ultimately setting in motion the events am that destroyed the Sith and redeemed his lost apprentice. Although Yoda trained Luke, Obi-wan was the foundation that Legends Luke Skywalker built his own Jedi Order upon.
@Count.Saruman
@Count.Saruman 2 жыл бұрын
I actually thought Legends Luke was far closer to Anakin than to Obi-Wan. He even blamed Obi-Wan for Anakin's fall multiple times, while Anakin was being put on a pedestal. Frankly, I thought it added some depth to his character, that he was able to recognise some of Obi-Wan's flaws and build on them. As for completely surrendering to the Force, I think that's what happened in a New Hope, but not in ROTS. In ROTS, his defeat of Anakin was an act of pure willpower on his part- as well as the clear strategy and calculation he used to defeat him. That wasn't the will of the Force at work; that was the will of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
@kellygreenii
@kellygreenii 2 жыл бұрын
@@Count.Saruman Disagree. Anakin and Luke in his youth were very similar. Emotional. Impulsive. Carrying themselves with an angry edge. So did Obi-wan. The difference is that Obi-wan and Luke (Legends) grew out of it. While Anakin and Luke (Last Jedi) did not. The reason Anakin fell to the dark side is because the Order failed him, not Obi-wan. Anakin was filled with rage from his life as a slave and fear from being taken from his mother and losing all the important people in his life. Yoda offered him nothing to deal with those emotions in a healthy way. Perhaps as part of a species that lived for a thousand years, he grew to be comfortable with loss in a way that humans simply cannot match. So Anakin was vulnerable to being corrupted by Palpatine….and Yoda repeated the same mistakes with Luke and came close to losing him as well (Return of the Jedi). Only seeing the fate of his father gave Luke the resolve to pull back from that fear-driven abyss. Luke Legends learned from this, and didn’t repeat the mistakes that Yoda made with his Jedi Order. He let his Jedi form attachment and grow and learn to make peace with loss. Rather than insisting that it didn’t exist, and that it could be ignored (My failure, this is.) Yoda deserves credit in that he faced his own failures and didn’t run and hide from them like Luke Last Jedi did. He learned from most of them and passed it on to Luke…but not all of them.

I think I read somewhere that Obi-Wan was barley accepted for Jedi training do to his midichlorian count. 🤔

Eeeyup - then he did reasonably well as a youngling (was a good student) - but no master wanted to train him. So he ended up serving in one of Jedi's auxiliary corps (I think it was agricultural) on a Planet where former apprentice of Qui-Gon Jinn was "hiding" and was instrumental in helping to bring him down. Hence Qui-Gon took his as an apprentice - despite earlier not wanting (because of his former one going to the dark side).

No, that's wrong. He's always been listed as remarkably talented, if not titanic in potential. Masters didn't want to train him because as a child, he had some anger issues. Unlike Obi-Wan himself with Anakin or even Yoda with Dooku, Qui-Gon was patient with him and taught him humility.

@@Count.Saruman Depends on source. It's been years since I've read books and checked then canonical comics and information. I do remember that he was deemed as being at best average with the force (it might have been his anger issues) and having problems as youngling. This might not be reflected in his midichlorian count (especially since the idea was hated, so midichlorians quickly went quiet and were barely mentioned) - which as we know mostly give you the ceiling potential. Obi-Wan was mostly portrayed as "average" Jedi who reached greatness through tons of work, patient guidance and buckets of sweat rather than having such raw power that once he learned for example Force-push he wouldn't need to optimize it (like was the case for several Jedi with seemingly "stronger potential"). Which leads to the fact that people expect quick results, so authors didn't exactly know how to write a "relatively weak" Obi-Wan. And you're correct that it was because of Qui-Gon's patience that he was able to grow up as a Jedi and thanks to this guidance kept growing up even after Qui Gon's death. I do realize that I don't disagree with you and my point is mostly that readers and other fans were perceived as not liking their "Legendary Jedi" still needing a lot to learn, so a lot of his problems were glossed over or we have contradicting sources that start to say that he was always "gifted and strong", rather than "gifted and hard-working". Then again - most stuff I've read about this period in his life was like 2 decades ago. I definitely remember that there were 2 versions for some time - one had him having problems even getting into Academy, but being a good student and the other had him being gifted, but having a lot of issues that made it so he wouldn't be even accepted to training by any Master. It seems I unintentionally mixed both of them, when I think the first one was quickly phased out and probably retconned.

@@jannegrey593 I got it from Jedi Apprentice, not Master and Apprentice. Obi-Wan is referenced to have anger issues there, but he's not stated to be anything less than talented. Personally, I like to imagine his gifts as remarkable, just not on the same level as the Skywalkers, Yoda and Windu- or even Dooku, for that matter. That doesn't mean he's weak, just that his contemporaries are part of an elite club and that he tends to come up against opponents with more direct ability to cause destruction with the Force than he has most of the time.

I Wonder if Palpatine's darkness Clouded him from seeing the light in Obi-Wan. Maybe he was able to hide his true power from him, or Palpatine simply did not understand what true power actually is. It comes from love and service not domination and fear.

We all know how Obi Wan managed to beat Anakin Mr. Darth Vader.... With the power of the HIGH GROUND!
@greezythumb
@greezythumb 2 жыл бұрын
It's not complicated. Obi Wan was smarter... Period. Because Obi Wan knew what he was and wasn't. He accepted his shortcomings and worked hard to hone other abilities to make up for them. This made Obi Wan a deadly foe that enabled him to win battle after battle. Obi Wan was a true warrior. I believe the emperor let him be because he recognized that Obi Wan was cunning and more trouble than he was worth. Obi beat Vader because he was smarter, clear minded, more aware and more cunning. If it wasn't the high ground, Obi Wan would have found another tactic to beat him. Obi Wan made such an impression on Vader that he never underestimated another opponent and he started being patient and calculating. I will say Obi Wan taught Vader well.

Hey Stupendous! Big fan of the channel! I've been thinking about something and maybe you might know the answer. If a strong Sith Lord, lets use Sideous as an example, were to encounter a Force Ghost, do you think he'd be able to "defeat" or disrupt them in any way? Or would they just linger around and bug him? May the Force be with you!
