Palworld is GREAT! | The Palworld Discourse | Players vs Devs vs Nintendo Fans

I'm not a huge fan of Early Access, Survival Crafting, or Pokemon (with some minor exceptions), but the general discourse from Western Game Developers whom I'd been following for years contrasted against people I knew playing the game forced me to play this. I ended up liking it, A LOT. I'm going to talk about this.
Oh, and while I do recommend the game, it's early access, there is no contract binding the developers to complete it. Meaning if you do buy it, you'll be buying an as-is version of the game.

Palworld is what Legends Arceus should've been, in my opinion. Building up the town, protecting humans, building relationships with Pokemon to slow down and eventually stop the attacks. Have the technology be limited to the time period. You have everything you need.

you can see how deep gameplay goes but just me describing my recent plans in the midgame -I need to mine more ore more efficiently. to do this, i need to engage in about many other systems, capturing pals, upgrading them, breeding a pal, building a base, grinding other materials to do all these things, exploring to find a good spot to mine ore, levelling up to get better gear to mine. All this emergent gameplay from the simple want to mine ore better

When I first saw a trailer for Palworld, I was immediately interested because it had that sense of fantastical wonder that I love about Pokemon and has been lacking since gen 7. Then the 15-second mark happened, I see Grizzbolt wielding a minigun and I could feel the excitement immediately drain from my body. "X but edgy/with guns" isn't something I inherently dislike (see: unironically enjoying Shadow the Hedgehog) but it's just not what I want from a modern Pokemon-style game, so I passed on it.

PALWORLD IS AMAZING!! it is no exaggeration to say that i've spent at least 100 hours in Valheim trying to mod in stuff that Palworld gives us OUT THE BOX. Tbh it's probably more like 300 hours. And still valheim runs like aaaaaass. PALWORLD IS KING

From what I've seen from the end of this video, the game is utter garbage, what makes it fun is playing with some likeminded friends and that skewers your perception somewhat. Playing a mediocre or garbage game with friends can elevate the experience to make it a good or even awesome game, which doesn't change the fact that at its core, its crap.

You need to be able to Define what its core is and what that means to you, the player. The majority of my time was spent in single player. The only conclusion we can draw from that then is that our tastes and video games are different.

@@Zhakaron In some parts, yes, our tastes differ and what looks like menial grind for grinds' sake to feed back into itself via base building and crafting similar to Fallout 4 (which I can remember you said you enjoyed ) is simply annoying to me and I only suffer it IF there is a carrot somewhere along the line that I deem worthy, which is highly subjective and neither shortly nor satisfyingly described. It is one of those vapourous concepts, hard to grasp like "Explain why your favourite colour is XYZ". But we also have some things in common and if you read this, thank you a lot for making me aware of OpenMW, a better engine for the best of the TES series' games.

Whereas I will spend a good half hour or 45 minutes building a base in no man's Sky another game that I really enjoy. So yes it just comes down to subjective activity enjoyment. Since palworld is one of the better, more finely tuned versions of the thing you don't like.

But that's the point of the game though, even at the development level, to be FUN. It being crap or whatever is irrelevant to the goal of the game's creation. In the realm of videogames, FUN is King.
