Hello Pam, I have never painted any furniture before ,but i want to redo an old piece i have. It is painted with chalk paint and i want. to repaint it with semigloss but I don't want to ruin it can I do this. Can you tell me what i need to do before I start thank you very much Linda Jackson

@@lindajackson8068 I don't usually use semi gloss because most requires sanding and priming. If you're applying over chalk paint, you might be ok. I'm sorry I don't use semi gloss so I can't be sure

Yours is the 7th video I watched on this technique and by far the very best. The way you explain the process and the steps to achieve the grey weathered finish is very clear and easy to understand. Great work and thank you. I am going to try this method tomorrow.

I'm so glad I found this one Pam 😀. I've used the products and techniques, but not in the same way. I learned a lot. I never thought to mash the colors together with a rag after dry brushing. 😮

It will work. If you use Chalk type paint, you won't even need a topcoat. It weathers beautifully

@@PamHaskins The directions on the package of Gator Hide do not suggest that sanding is needed between coats of chalk paint and the Gator Hide, but do you recommend it? One person found this helpful

Hi Pam, Thank you! I really got nervous as I was working on my 32 year old hope chest my husband made me before we got married. Really needed an update was stained a very dark walnut to match a bedroom set we don’t even have anymore. I played your video over and over, and as you were talking, I just kept whitewashing and wiping until I got the look I was looking for. You helped me to be brave! And achieve by not giving up! Sandy

I absolutely love this and want to do this on my wooden kitchen countertops. My question is if I use a water based polycrylic as a sealer, will it cause yellowing? Would I still use the wax? I need a water resistant finish. Many thanks!

I love the technique you used on this. A lot of tutorials use sanding afterward to make it look like this but I didn't want to use a sander. I'm going to try this!

Great tutorial!...just wondering type of paint, stain and wax...im pretty sure its water base paint...but oil base stain over latex?...the wax is all new to me...thanx..

All products are by Dixie Belle Paint Company and all, including the stain, are water based

Transparent latex paint mixed with a bit of dark colorant also creates a perfect gel "stain".

All products were Dixie Belle products. The wash was Dixie Belle dropcloth and the overstating was Dixie Belle voodoo gel stain

How could you make it water proof and easy clean? I want to do my dark dining table this way, I am so tired of protecting the finish and still getting water and heat stains. Thanks!

Use a water repellent topcoat. Some are water based and others are oil based

Is the gator hide safe for a cradle? I love this look and need to "update" a cradle for my first grandchild.

I'm not sure. If it's a cradle, it should be fine, but if it's something where a child might chew on the side rail, then I might not. I always err on the side of caution
