Had a 1998 St 1100 and finally sold the bike in 2020 and fantastic long range with that 6.5 gallon fuel tank. 22 years and 86,000 miles. I only sold it because it was to top heavy for me anymore. 80 years of age now in 2024 and the 650 lbs just became to much for me. Still ride but a much lighter bike. A great bike and I think better than the 1300. When Honda went from a timing belt to the chain, thought it was a down grade. Oh, well time moves on.

In 52 years of motorcycling ( I don’t do cars🤪🤣) my favourite tourer of all time , I liked them so much I had 2 , you could drive 500 miles in a day ( one top up ) and get of fresh as a daisy 😊👍 . As mentioned brilliant mirrors , petrol tank is under drivers seat , never got wet in downpours , look in those mirrors and the spray was hitting the road behind bike and not pillion seat , great vlog 👍👍👍👍👍

Enjoyed that. 1100 Pans work best using OEM Honda brake pads, aftermarket pads can make them feel a bit wooden. Should be in the region of 50 mpg for most people. They are lovely all rounder bikes. Very capable and can do spaceship mileages if looked after. Many owners never sell them and that says it all.

I have owned ST1100 since 1990, first a green one, then a red in 1998. I agree with all of your analysis and the weight of the bike becomes more of a problem as you get older! All the routine maintenance is DIY friendly, if you have the time and equipment. The present bike has done 58,000miles. The hardest thing now is reversing on a loose surface with both feet down for stability , while not losing the balance..

@@davemetcalf8431 Very helpful if the driver can put both feet on the ground but sometimes the weight is impossible to manage. When it starts to fall you can't hold it and another plastic protector wing needs replacing..

@@davemetcalf8431 Having ridden ST1100s since 1990, I have had to let it do down gently a few times once it leans past the point of no return. Should have been fitted with a reverse gear but no other complaints at all.

Lol.. yes, you could be termed as a pilot rather than a biker pmsl... itchy boots... she inspired me to try a Royal Enfield Himalayan, which I currently have :) The Woman in the video (Anna) also passed her test and got a Himalayan .. I do miss that Pan for those longer rides!

I own a ST1100, I have had it for 2 and a half years, agree with everything you say, many many years ago I went to Newcastle University and married a geordie, scenery brought back loads of memories. I now live in rural Ontario Canada. The bikes starts well even in Canadian winters, not to great on dirt roads - that and the weight are the only negatives. This summer I am hoping to do a 7,000 km round trip to D*ldo Newfoundland.

10:00 😂 taking U turn with ST1100 is not a big deal if you practice enough on it. The problem is that many owners have fear of droping the bike while training. Believe me, it is possible to take U turn on a smaller roads if you just keep practicing enough. ST1100 can be ridden like a bicycle only problem is the fear. No need for this when doing slow turn. Also using rear brake helps if you want really sharp turn.😂

I got to practice that indeed. I _know_ it can be done, I _know_ I did it on other bikes no problem, but the st1100 is my biggest bike so far and I dropped it once already (from standstill) and it is near impossible to get it upright again... Oh well, practice makes perfect 😅

Brilliant bike, we love ours and it now takes preference over our Deauville (so much so we are selling the Deauville). Done about 15000 kms now on the Pan, spent a bit of cash to get it right and it’s a wonderful thing for two up long riding. And Changed to Honda brake pads….that made a positive difference also fresh spark plugs improved the fuel economy. Hope you keep on enjoying it 🤓👍

One more issue...the front forks on the early models until 1995 had drain plug for the fork oil which made my day when servicing the bike. The newer one did not had that drain plug which means a lot of work to do to change only forks oil. This is an info for all those that have ability to service their own bike.

Nice Vid!!....Really enjoyed it as I found so many things in common. Just purchased my first Pan St1100 2001 a week ago & went for a wee trek the other day, my first since i bought it blind from a main Dealer as a PX. Due to back issues & the crazy location of the battery amongst other things, I sold my Ducati ST4 916cc as although it went like shit off a shovel I lost my patience with it & did have to put a shift in on a run out. However...............totally agree with you, although the Duke was about 80kgs lighter, when riding the Pan was so much easier to ride!!...I have had many bikes in my 56 years, mainly Triumphs, however...I feel this bike was made to measure for me personally & wish I had discovered it many years ago. Sold the Duke for £2000, stole the Pan for £1099, £901 in my ass pocket & by far the better ride.......Happy Dayzzz (Up the Boro !!!) ...lol

Speed, I got mine to 119 mpg indicated Economy, I get no less than 40 MPG, usually 43-45. Storage for literal days, as the kids say. 113k miles on mine, nothing broken just maintained, but then I was the second or third owner. Brakes could be stronger, but she will do WHATEVER you ask her to do. Turn, stop, carry, haul, sprint, all the things. Great sporty tourer.

Why only 1998-2001 review...this bike was sold from 1990 my friend. Only difference is early ABS system made until 1995 and since 1996 upgraded ABS. Also the alternator was upgraded from closed one until 1996 in a standard one like cars have.That's it...this bikes from day 1 have a little difference and rides the same.

That's pretty much it... When we had a quick look at the parts lists and specs, etc... the bike we had at that time fit within those year brackets. I'm sure there is very little difference, but we couldn't be certain of that.
