PANORAMA FINALS 1987. One of Jit's best, was second to Boogsie's "This feeling Nice".

Song is intense, loud and powerful all the way through yet somehow it's also dynamic in ways I cannot quantify. I am flabbergasted as to how they do this. Magic.

The entire second half of the arrangement is fantastic. Incredible amount of musical content. The players discipline has to be applauded as well, to pull off such intricate layering between all the pan sections. Like a classical piece played at calypso tempo! Jit was truly in a class by himself. :]

Seeing how they don't teach you with sheet music, it is amazing they can remember the whole thing. I'd fail after the first two minutes and just randomly play notes.

To me, this the ultimate in awesomeness. Had the sheet music for years, and I always blow the 7b section. Watching the whole stage rocking and moving is bad ass. Every time I play this on my car stereo while driving, I speed up 10-15 mph.

I went to the Ocean Beach street fair, in San Diego CA, and saw they had a DJ playing music at the beach. So I hiked up to my car, and got the CD of the Renegades, took it to him and asked he play this song. It was unlike anything any one had heard (and better in my opinion ) T'was interesting to see how some recoiled from it, but others listened, heard de music, and were jumpin up and loving it. Gotta spread the pan joy!

The Lord Kitchiner, lirics together with his melody took the steel band's to great heights, to quote, ah walk around the room and ah started to create un quote, any one who is familiar with his lirics will agree that he was truly the Grand Master of calypso.

One of the best panorama tunes ever arranged. The melody is always on one of the pans in the band. Jit's interpretation of this tune is a master piece which with his other future arrangements would have justified his honorary Doctorate.
@opus4rv5 жыл бұрын
I've been telling people that for many many years. What Jit Samaroo did here by making sure at least one pan always carried the melody was just pure genius. It made the arrangement the perfect interpretation of the song. The actual tune never left the orchestra which in my opinion shows how disciplined he was as an arranger and musician.

listening to all the renditions of this tune I now fully dig how jit surpasses and is a cut above the rest...his intro is always always unique and mesmerizing......somwith which other arrangers I have not seen...also the way he fuses the pans together is mind blowing.....it's as thgh is one big pan playin...so uniformed and in sync wit each other..each pa complimenting each other.....listening to the other renditions I did not find any that cud best samaroo....fonclaire i tink was the worst......dis is pan....wen an entire band plays and u only hear one pan ....not meaning it like u literally one pan........alyuh know weh I mean. ....such a class performance ....jit truly deserves the title ..."greatest arranger of pan"....he truly has defined the instrument and used or in ways no other arranger has created a challenge to others to meet this standard.....

I totally agree. Dr. Samaroo had the best understanding in my opinion of this instrument and took it to it's highest potential with his arrangements. And by no means we can't leave out the fantastic group of players he had to work with. However, he's left us a student that is proving to surpass him. All credit to the genius Dr. Samaroo.

Over 7 billion people on earth. Can’t expect everyone to love or like the same things. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Just because you and others like it don’t assume everyone will. It’s okay if some people don’t. There’s also how many other steel bands in the competition. People have their basis opinions as to who they like and who they thought deserved the win that year.
