As a Caribbean man, I am pleased to see other cultures embrace this indigenous musical instrument. And there can be no better way to demonstrate pan than Kitchener's classic, "Pan in A Minor". Good job.

We are still looking at the Kaiso, Calypso greats years later... my family grew up with them in the 1940s and 50s in Laventille and Port of Spain. Hopefully during Labor Day parade in NY, we can hear the oldies on the trucks and the steel pans..

I was born in Trinidad and this piece of music is a master piece. It should be studied using Lord Kitchner’s rendition and then the steel ban rendition. Best composition overall for pan music.

This brought me to tears! I played tenor lead pan in high school in our steel drum band and this was my favorite song we played. I miss it so much and leaving high school I was devastated to stop playing. I still wish there was a way I could. It's been 13 years and I still miss it dearly

Quite well done! This is an excellent rendition of Jit's arrangement (I speak as a Trini). Every so often I search KZbin to see what is being done with pan outside of T&T, and more and more I'm pleasantly surprised. I especially like it when arrangers make it their own and do new things with the music, like that Finnish arranger, and a band from Mauritius that plays it in "Mauritian sega" tempo. Brilliant! Next time -- maybe with "Year of Love" the latest big hit from Trinidad -- you could treat us to some Texan musical idioms brought to the calypso music, a la Aaron Copland. It's an ambitious ask, I know, but it's only an idea... -Big Sid

Brilliant! What a coruscating, crystalline clarity of sound (hat tip to Leonard Sachs.) Whenever I hear this song, a thought occurs to me. Lord Kitchener (Your Steel Band Needs YOU) sings English words to this melody, but it does seem to be crying out for words in a Latin language. Spanish would seem the obvious choice, but Portuguese or Italian would also do quite well.

Lol the guy to the left of the blond girl use to teach at my high school for a little bit when we were in search of a drumline director. He gave me the nickname (completely random) that stuck with me to this day with the drumline alums from Guyer; Tommy. xD Always a pleasure to hear the Steel Drum Band. Been a fan since 2005 when I first heard them at the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival. Really looking forward to watching all the great pieces UNT has to offer at the festival this year!
