I've seen Jay Barengers tiger its like 20 feet tall. I only got 2 off of mine this year but I cant wait fo more.
@EdgeofNowhereFarm6 жыл бұрын
Hey David. Yeah, I saw the video Jay did on his last year and we're definitely going to keep this pruned way down to keep the fruit reachable. Wasn't he on his roof picking those?

I managed to get one of these trees still super small but hs 3 fruits hard to tell when to pick them as they dont turn brown or purple like other figs edit: cool so its a bit droopy when ripe mine arent ripe yet then. saved me picking one of them early
@EdgeofNowhereFarm9 ай бұрын
Yes, it's a bit harder to tell on these when they ripen, but they do get droopy and the eye starts to open slightly and turn reddish/pink.

I planted Panache fig tree last year. Do you have to prune the tree over the winter time?
@EdgeofNowhereFarm6 жыл бұрын
Hey Susan. Yes, we do prune them over winter to keep the fruit lower to the ground. I can already tell from the growth habit of this one that it's wanting to grow pretty much verticle, so within a few years the fruit will be 10' or more in the air! This winter we're planning on rooting some cuttings from the pruning we do to propogate more of these amazing fruit. You made a great choice on this variety!

Thanks East Mesa. These are amazing tasting figs!

I may have to try to grow one of those! 😎
@EdgeofNowhereFarm6 жыл бұрын
@@EastMesaUrbanHomestead Defintely. Seeing how this one is growing more verticle I think you'll be able to maintain it easliy in the landscape you have in your backyard. Plus, while the woochips really help with maintaining water, they're pretty forgiving if you wind up needing to use rock around some of it.

Good choice, this may be our favorite variety!

That is a beautiful tree. Do you sell your cuttings? We just picked up a Barbados Cherry and Jamaican Cherry that we are planning on planting, tomorrow.
@EdgeofNowhereFarm6 жыл бұрын
Hey Daniel! We don't sell cuttings as of now, but we may work that into our farming business on the new property as we've had a lot of people asking for them. We are going to try more propagation with them this winter with the pruned branches and we'll share with everyone how that goes. Congrats on the cherry trees. If they're newly planted going into our cold season make sure to keep them protected. Our barbados is huge at this point, but it does die back a good foot or more when frost hits it.
@danielfisch6556 жыл бұрын
Edge of Nowhere Farm looking forward to your propagation results and thank you for the information on protecting our new cherry tree/bush. I took care of that today too.

Hi. I'm in Las Vegas so pretty similar weather to you. I want to get 3 figs. One a little darker, molassey flavor, a more berry one and a honey one to start off with. I'm considering black mission, tiger panache and Peter's Honey. Do you know if these might be good choices?
@EdgeofNowhereFarm2 жыл бұрын
Hey Cristhian. I think you have a solid list with the exception of the Peter's Honey. We have really struggled to get quality fruit from our tree and from what I understand is it's probably an issue with low humidity. Since you're in a very similar climate to us you may find it's a challenge as well. Most of the white figs will have a honey type flavor. Brown Turkey may be another option for that figgy/honey flavor. It produces like CRAZY and has a traditional figgy flavor.
@cristhianzerimar2 жыл бұрын
@@EdgeofNowhereFarm Thank you, that was one of the other that I was considering. Also Kadota. Would you recommend brown turkey more?
@EdgeofNowhereFarm2 жыл бұрын
@@cristhianzerimar our Kadota struggles to ripen fruit as well. Grows like crazy, but the fruit is just not very good. The BT on the other hand is strong from year to year and sets 2 crops very consistently.

If I had a propagated cutting in a 1 gallon pot of this variety would it be a bad time to plant in ground now? (Being Mid June in Phoenix)
@EdgeofNowhereFarm2 жыл бұрын
Hey Ryan, I would definitely wait until September or October to plant it. It is just way to hot and the tree will most likely get stressed out especially how small it is.

Can I keep a mature panache fig tree at about 6-8 feet in height? How often would I need to prune to keep that height?
@EdgeofNowhereFarm Жыл бұрын
The short answer is yes, but it will take some very aggressive pruning in the Winter time. While you can usually get away with a bit of pruning in the Summer I would skip that. They "bleed" so badly that it may cause issues for the tree under the wrong conditions. We focus on open center to force outward growth and always cut to an outward facing bud to do the same. We have always kept ours below 8' that way without any issues.

Hi Amory. We don't sell cuttings and right now we're on the new farm and starting our orchard over, so we don't have fruit for sale. Sorry we couldn't help you out!
