I still have my Sylvania DVD Recorder from June 2006 and it still works. I do not use it as much as I used to. I mainly use it when dubbing over tapes for clients to DVD.

I have a panasonic SG-HM22 that was working and randomly shut off. No burnt components and the trans former goes on and off. Seems to be a power issue to the main board. Any ideas ?

I have a Panasonic DMR-ES10 (UK Models) which was manufactured in Slovakia, the front panel is the same as the ES20 but the rear has the Power, RF, AV (Composite and Scart) Component connections in different locations, I can play Region 1 discs on it as well as Region 2

These are great recorders but also excellent pass thru units for upscaling SD from VHS and Laserdisc. Unlike most recorders there is a pseudo time base correction built in and some stability and color enhancement. Good cheap upscalers even if you just need to play or digitize rough quality VHS it will straighten it right out. The idea being if you were recording from VHS to DVD the end picture quality is improved instead of duplicated. The es25 has HDMI out 1080p as well great for LD on an HD monitor, noticeable improvement to direct composite in. But yea the caps can go bad...

That's too funny. I had the same model and it had a hole blown through a regulator as well. I tossed the whole thing, only to find they stopped making component dvd burners everywhere. I should have bought the chip. Oh well... great channel!

Just did a dmr-es40v last week with a F60 error. This sounds the same as mine. Had a 3.3v ic bad on top of the caps. Pulling the manual for your ic1401 is a reg d+1.8v. part no codbakh00003 (mp1580)

I don't know whether the DMR-ES20EGS is the same, but according to info on that, IC1404 is a 5Vd.c. regulator that's connected to a 5.8Vd.c. rail. Pin 1 Vin, pin 2 power on/off control, pin 3 Vout and pin 2 ground. I donm't see a part number at the moment though. I'll keep looking. Cheers

The white adhesive that's used to hold the larger capacitors in place, is there anything special about it? Or will any non-conductive adhesive work just as well?
@michaelturner4457 Жыл бұрын
It's just silicone adhesive. Nothing special.

I got into repairing electronics by repairing Panasonic DVD recorders, it was almost always electrolytic capacitors that failed leading to the death of that chip. The chips are readily available, they are MD5001t

The fan header was not connected during open testing. If the computer expects that connection and doesn’t see it, the boot up process may not work. But then again, I made my comment before watching the entire video. 😊

You have often commented about 'crappy' SMD capacitors. Granted older ones have proven to be so. Are any manufacturers' modern SMD caps any better in your opinion?

99% of the time it is capacitors on Panasonic gear that cause problems. In this case the bad cap has taken out the regulator i/c. The chances of finding a new one won't be great. You can win them all Dave.

@@12voltvids That is the way it goes these days, no one wants small orders for parts that they only make a few cents on. If you try to import them from another country the shipping and import tax costs way more than the part.
