What's your perspective on the Panasonic G7?

THANKS for highlighting the main advantages of the G7. Reviews like this are invaluable to curious beginners like me. What settings and lenses would you recommend using the G7 to make yoga videos?

You should definitely get a wide-angle lens, like the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 or even wider, like a 12mm lens. It helps to try out the view in your room using the kit lens at different milimiters (focal lengths), but for sure you need on wide angle lens that, preferably, lets in a lot of light. As for the settings, depends on the amount of light you have in the room, just avoid high ISO, like ISO 800.

Thanks for the quick and timely response. I was looking at the Panasonic Leica 12mm and 15mm lenses, respectively. Appreciate the excellent advice. I like watching your content; you get down to business without wasting time. Keep up the superb work.

Hey man, this video helped me out a lot in choosing my camera! I was looking for something entry-level, at around 300€ and with an articulating screen and this camera really seemed to fit my bill. I've now received it and I'm already having a great time with it! When I first saw your videos I thought you had way more subs, your production quality and content in general is on point. Many thanks again for helping me out, I wish you all the best!

I have the Lumix GH5, the S5, and now the G7, as new for 209€ at MPB. The price, weight to image quality ratio makes this camera just fun to use. The others, I use as well sometimes when I deliberately go out to shoot. G7 is just a fine little camera and fun to bring all the time. Paired with the 12 - 35 F2.8 (24 - 70 full frame equivalent.)

The LUMIX G7 is one of Panasonic's best cameras till date. Yes, it's almost 10 years old, but it always had the technology, but especially video specs, as cameras released today. I use it alongside a G81 (G85) I recently got for the added IBIS and weather-sealing.
@cameraexplorations

Yes, it is a classic that doesn't disappoint, and the G81 is a G7 with IBIS and weather-sealing, so you can't go wrong with this combo. Enjoy them! 😀

I learned so much using this camera as it is the first fancy camera. I've always had point and shoot automatic cameras. But the auto focus is terrible. It wows in and out all the time and is very hard to work with.

We never forget our first 'fancy camera.' Mine was also a Micro Four Thirds camera: an Olympus E-410.

Lightweight, confortable grip and advance video features for the price is hard to beat. Don't know if G100 is a better camera (improved AF algorithm from G9, vertical video and smaller footprint), but build quality is not as good. I still prefer the olympus OMD E-M10 or E-M5 for stills, but for the $500 price point, the G7 is hard to beat. Add a couple of good primes and voila
@cameraexplorations

The G100, a newly released camera, is definitely better at image quality and AF, but is not great at handling. I also prefer Olympus cameras for stills, but was attracted by the low price of this G7, indeed, hard to beat.

Great video. You made some really good points. This camera appears to be an under-dog. I’m not a Panasonic user since I don’t do much video but their cameras are admirable. I also prefer Panny lenses over Olympus. Which stabilized lenses have you tried on the G7 besides the kit lens? Is the autofocus useable? How’s the battery life?
@cameraexplorations
@cameraexplorations Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The only stabilized lens I used with this camera was the Panasonic 14-140mm and it does a good job! If you have good stabilization on the lens, the lack of IBIS will not bother you. The autofocus is decent, definitely useable, and when it comes to battery life, it's pretty much the same as most mirrorless cameras, 350 shots - not bad, but I always recommend a second battery. It is the first thing I do after purchasing a new camera: I purchase a 2nd battery.

@@cameraexplorations How do you feel about using aftermarket brand batteries vs original brand batteries? Can you charge original battery in aftermarket charger or vice versa?
@cameraexplorations
@cameraexplorations Жыл бұрын
The original battery, made by Panasonic, lasts longer (it is about 20% better) . About charging, yes, in this case, you can charge the aftermarket battery in the original Panasonic charger (I don't have a 2nd charger). From my experience, having cameras from different brands, nothing beats the original battery, but I also have to buy aftermarket ones because they are 2, even 3 times cheaper than the original.

I am using Lumix G85 camera since 2020 second half. But now its facing some focal issue. Its can not shoot fully wide or fully zoom. Lens only allowed to shoot very close subject. Other wise focus out.

what would you say about its video stability?
@cameraexplorations
@cameraexplorations 9 ай бұрын
Video recordings look nice and crisp. No issues there. If you're talking about In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), the G7 doesn't have it, but you will take stable shots if you'll use a Lens that features Image Stabilization.

hi thanks for the review I have a question ive been using the panasonic fz1000 which is a bridge camera ,its a great camera but a bit bulky and heavy i use it mainly for videos on youtube and occasionally i use it out doors for photos my question is this is the g7 a good upgrade over the fz1000? low light etc thanks so much looking foward for your answer
@cameraexplorations
@cameraexplorations Жыл бұрын
Hi, glad you liked my video! The Panasonic FZ1000 has a one inch sensor, while the G7 has a Micro Four Thirds sensor. G7's Sensor is larger, it will capture more light so it will have better performances in low-light. What you also must remember is that the lens is as important as the camera itself. A big aperture lens (like the Panasonic 50mm f/1.7, for example) will be needed if you want a good performance in low light. Also, if you want to continue with Panasonic, go for the G80 (G85) - it is basically a G7 with IBIS - and the price is very similar.

I am primarily an Olympus/OM System shooter. I picked up the G7 a few months ago because I wanted another Micro 4/3 body that was relatively cheap and lightweight. I was able to buy the G7 new for $500. I am pleasantly surprised by this camera's handling and image quality, particularly for video.

Is it possible to transfer photo and video from lumix g7 to android mobile and in how many ways can it be easily transferred to mobile? It is very difficult and difficult to transfer from aap.
@cameraexplorations
@cameraexplorations 10 күн бұрын
LUMIX Sync is the only way I’m aware of to transfer photos and videos directly to an Android device. The only alternative would be to transfer the files to a laptop or PC using a card reader and then move them to the Android device with a cable.

The Panasonic kit lens (14-42mm or 12-32mm) and the Panasonic 25mm f/1.7 are good inexpensive options to start with. My time is limited, I can not answer to all questions and will stop now. I gave you a starting point. Please use Google search if you have more questions. This is how I learned when I was a beginner. All the best!

Would you say that the g100 is better than the g7 or all the way around? (If both were the same price)
@cameraexplorations

The G100 is definitely better when it comes to image quality and focusing. It's a much newer camera, 2020 vs 2015. The only advantage of the G7 over the G100: bigger body=better handling.
