I like Giulio's work but I think he's overstating the whole olympus glass on panasonic bodies and vice versa thing. Yes there are some features like Sync IS and Dual IS and some buttons on the lens that won't work but that won't affect your ability to take great pictures with the lens. When you attach the Oly 12-100 to the G9 you don't get Dual IS and it defaults to the lens stabilization of the 12-100 which is excellent, so you're losing at most 1 stop of stabilization (if so much) vs the G9 body with a Dual IS capable lens. Most Olympus lenses don't have stabilization so you'll just use the excellent IBIS of the G9 anyways. Even with DUAL IS capable panny lenses you only gain 0.5 stop of stabilization with it turned on for the shorter focal lengths over using the IBIS alone. Even re DFD, which only works with Panasonic lenses only seems to make a difference in extreme cases like video AFC in lowlight in real world use. I say look for the lens that covers the focal range that you're interested in with the quality and price you want regardless if it's Oly or Pan and buy it. You'll still have 95% of the functionality in real world use regardless if it matches the body or not. Panasonic doesn't have a lens of the range and quality of the Oly 12-100mm f4 Pro or the Oly 40-150mm f2.8 Pro. The closes match would be the new 50-200 f2.8-4 which is great but its not constant aperture.

Your playing off of each other comes across as very positive. Just a quick note.....I am testing the LUMIX G9 right now and I have the EM1 MKII body with the 12-100mm f4 PRO. When I put that 12-100mm on the G9 the little IS hand on the screen lights up as long as I have the switch on the lens turned to ON. If I turn it off, the little IS hand turns red and I have zero IS both on the lens and the camera. The LUMIX camera does not control the IS with that lens just like on the Olympus. It is controlled by that lens. I cannot go into the G9 menu and set it for IS on the camera body only with that lens....it’s grayed out when the lens is set to OFF. It does the same thing on the EM1 MKII body. Yes I have the latest firmware on all my lenses as well, so it’s not a firmware issue. My 12-100mm gives me IS with the G9. Now I didn’t test that before the newest firmware update so not sure how it used to work but that is what I am getting with this one. Also, I have both Olympus and LUMIX lenses and they work great on either system. I don’t agree with keeping your lenses to your system since they do work well together. I love all my Panasonic and Olympus lenses which I had before I got the G9 to go with my Olympus. It’s all preference and finances too.

For your G9 you might try what I did with my Fz2500. I attached an adjustable camera strap to the metal ring - right side - & made a loop that my 2 middle fingers go through. Now the bottom corner of the camera rests in my lower palm, while the upper - right side of the camera is supported by the strap which rests on the back side of my 2 fingers. This now allows my thumb & index finger to freely roam around - unburdened with holding onto the camera.

5:30 I use olympus so I am not really biased against sony, but that comparison with that sony 50mm lens to the olympus 17mm F1.8 isn't fair in terms of size. On the a6400 the 50mm will be a optimal focal length for portraiture. the better lens to compare with the olympus is the SEL20mm pancake lens from Sony.

Great advice from Giulio in this video. You can tell he's been in this game for a while. I admit to being a full-frame snob for the better part of the last decade...but I'm now shooting with APS-C and full-frame almost interchangeably and even choose APS-C only sometimes. The M43 cameras and glass interest me a lot, but I think I'm content with my happy family with APS-C and full-frame.

I'm 99.7% set on replacing it with the em1ii and the 12-40 kit XD From what I've seen it should give me similar performance, even at a stop darker (f2 vs f2.8) in a zoom, very impressed with olympus, the 22mm isnt a bad prime either, quite sharp!

@@kalisti2323 I think you'll dig the E-M1 MKII. It's super well built and so far, it performs quite well even at ISO 3200. The grain looks random and film-like (as much as digital can get) which is inspiring. I've been shooting at high ISO's just to get a film look in-camera and surprisingly for video it looks even better. Also, starting to play with the Olympus software which is amazing.

So I’ve been looking at the G9 and EM1 mkii and it’s still hard to choose between them both......... but the EM1 mkii with the 12-100f4 is now only £2100 in the UK... that’s about the price for a Gmaster lens in the Sony range.....

It’s the whole beauty is in the eye of the beholder kinda thing. Each camera company does have different colors. Panasonic’s colors are really good and with the LUMIX/Leica lenses they are slightly more contrasty and pop differently than standard lumix lenses. If you do any sort of photo editing the color out of camera doesn’t make that big of a difference. But I think Pentax has the best color out of camera imo

That's a crapload of gear in a messenger bag. Wow. It's like in the movies when you see someone reach into a magical bag and keep pulling out items that are larger than the bag. Here's my Micro Four Thirds kit: Olympus OM-D E-M1 (original) with third-party battery grip Panasonic Lumix DMC-G85 with Neewer battery grip Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 PRO Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 PRO with MC-14 1.4X and MC-20 2X teleconverters Olympus 45mm f1.8 with MCON-P01 macro converter Olympus 75-300mm f4.8-6.7 II -- which is now for sale on eBay since I just got the MC-20 teleconverter and it has become redundant Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4 Summilux Neewer foldable DSLR shoulder rig Takstar SCG-598 shotgun microphone with deadcat windscreen Zoom H1 audio recorder with deadcat windscreen Manfrotto BeFree Live lever lock video tripod with fluid head A bunch of filters, cables, and a pair of earbuds VKO memory card case with a bunch of cards And it all fits in the Altura Photo DSLR Camera Backpack! There are some things that are less than ideal about this backpack. First and foremost, you have to take it off to open the main compartment, which is right up against your back (thankfully there is padding). But it obviously holds a crapload of stuff, and it was only $44.99. I'm thinking about lightening my load a bit further by swapping the E-M1 and G85 for an E-M1 II (which shoots better video than the original E-M1 and has better autofocus than both of them), but that may happen down the road when the used prices on the E-M1 II drop further. I get the appeal of the GM1 and 12-32mm or 15mm f1.7 being so tiny, but I wouldn't put that in a bag with these other cameras. Just carry it separately in a very tiny bag. It's neat that it fits though! I think the GX85 might be worth a tiny bit of extra bulk so you can have a viewfinder and IBIS, but that's just me. The Lumix 12-60mm f3.5-5.6 is a great lens for walking around, but I don't fully get the appeal of the Leica 12-60mm f2.8-4.0 when you already have the Olympus 12-100mm f4.0 IS lens.

Well you know what is embarrassing me about m43 sensors, the smallest resolution, 20mp is not enough even for street photography sometimes, I crop my pics and in the end getting something about 12-16mp. I know that it's enough for web. How to get rid of my pixel peeping disease? When I am looking at 30+ mp images and how they look in 1 to 1 ratio I feel so great about it, but my m43 pics are not looking great enough in 100% zoom, not even talking about 200-400%. I hope they create a 30mp micro 4/3 sensor with a working ISO 3200. I am not a commercial shooter, photography is my hobby.
@GiulioSciorio5 жыл бұрын
Best way to get over it is to shoot and make prints. I shoot at ISO 3200 all the time for personal and pro work and never had any complaints yet. The image sensor is only one part of the camera (an important one though) but there's a lot more to a camera than the sensor. I shot covers with a 5MP camera and low light with a 12mp Pen Mini. It's all about getting to know your camera, the right glass, lighting, and most importantly vision.
