Marks Tech It does have a mic input, so you can use your rode video mic pro !! But the G7 does not have a headphone jack to monitor your audio!! The only way to monitor audio is by checking the on screen audio levels.

Kagan If you are upgrading, I would say, keep the g7 and get a Gh4 coz they both make a great pair!! when I was deciding this purchase back in September, the Gh4 striked just the right balance between price and performance, and also I already had a lot of m43 glass, so that made the decision easier !!

clarine _ The G7 can take great images, but if you are not interested in the video features, then I would not suggest the G7 for photography solely. For serious photography in that budget look into Canon 70d/80d or maybe even the Canon M50. BTW if you're willing to spend a little more, you can look at some old full frame cameras, which produce incredible images.

Hi Prabhjot, Have you noticed any compression issues on the mic input of the G7? One reviewer made it sound as if it were unusable. As a vlog camera with the 4k for b-roll I may not have much issue if there were any digital crunch,, but I was wondering your thoughts. Great video,, thank you

Canong Cal-log There is some audio compression, but it is nowhere near as being unsuable. I think using something like a rode video mic pro for vlogging you're gonna be good!!

Badass video and really useful. I'm been using using the GHs since the GH1 first came out so fun to watch. What did you film the macro shots that were close ups of the camera? They were gorgeous! Yes, it's still the case. I sold my G7 a week ago, the only way to use an external monitor is by connecting your phone to the camera via wifi.

No, the G7 can output a clean HDMI signal and always could. I wouldn't have one if that wasn't the case. If you output to a decent recorder, you can get 5k 700mbps 8bit video from it. You can also output dirty HDMI if you'd like, but I turned that off straight away. There are limitations, though. For example, the HDMI won't work in 4k photo mode for no reason at all. However, in normal video mode, you're good to go. To repeat, the G7 and the GH4 can output HDMI, both clean and dirty. The GH4 is still our main placement camera because of its professional outputs, which even the GH5 can't match. However, we use a variety of cameras for scouting and the G7 is my main choice. After that is the trusty old GF2.

Would anyone help me please. Just about to buy the G7. Have a canon 550d (with 50mm f1.8 prime & sigma 10-20mm f4.5) and its 1080p is a little soft and more like upscaled 720p so when i shoot docu type videos, my drone footage is 4k and this is 1080p so mixing the footage shows the canon's softness even more. Hence need to go 4k without breaking the bank. My shots will be mostly static and slow, that too panning slow with a remote controlled motorized pan head. Will the G7 provide a good enough jump or at least slightly better than the 550d or will it turn out a little inferior for what im planning to use it for. Im not shooting people mainly, only groups of people, wide shots interiors so will its slightly inferior autofocus affect me. And can i do simple focus moves like focussing on something close like a plant and as the camera head pans out shift focus to the building behind the plant. Will tap-screen focus work in this simple kind of shot or is it severely crippled there too ? Priorities would be large depth of field having most of things in focus, covering indoor spaces of about 12x12 sized rooms with the 14-42 kit lens ? Your help would be appreciated, thanks.

Since the gh4 is way more expensive and its quality is way better than the g7, which render settings are you using and recommend to the g7 users? do you record 4k? then downscale?

stuqedits Well the statement that Gh4’s quality is way better than g7 is subjective, both the cameras have their own strengths. In terms of image quality (4k@24) I don’t think there is any difference between the Gh4 and the g7. Regarding my workflow with the g7, I generally record in 4k and then deliver in 4k as well. Also the render settings are subjective to your editing software!! ✌️
