Bought one used a year ago and use it professionally almost every day. It will be a productive tool for years to come. The more I use it the more I value and respect it. Rugged. Feature-rich. Long battery life. Quality of images/video is dependent on user's skill, not the camera. GH5 came out as the flagship hybrid with even more features, but compare them and if you don't need those features you don't need to spend all that money.

I bought a new GH4 after selling my BMCC for a profit , my personal camera . That was at the end of last year and since then I have fallen in love with the gh4's ease of use ,size and flexibility . Many have said my personal work could do with a higher quality image which seems to be the only downfall of my output . I have 12 or so IMDb credits to my name and folk are always asking for my camera skills and seem to like my framing and movement . I get to use some lovely high end cinema grade cameras on productions ...anyway , Recently I filmed a student short using my gh4 as they were in a bind without budget .. In a short time we were complete . over 2 weekends we filmed . filming each day with a single battery on old legacy lenses and a gimbal / monopod or tripod set up . even some of the old time crew were both amazed at the quick work and lack of equipment required . I recommend the gh4 as a personal camera , it holds up very well on a cinema screen ( a modest city cinema .. not an imax ) .. Would I get a higher end camera if I had the money? YES Id get an EOS C100 or 200 . but you cannot go wrong , even in 2018 with a GH4!

I did the same thing some months ago and was surprised at the quality. Good points...no record limit...small footprint... easy to get less expensive speed booster like the Viltrox. Wifi remote control is crazy amazing. 4K yes but it is only 8 bit 4 2 0 ... No built in ND... and that is kinda a big thing for video these days especially if you want shallow DF. I have to agree with you on the battery life. As a canon owner I have never seen this kind of battery performance. The issue you will find with the VLog is that unless you are shooting wide and everything is in focus you will likely find it pretty difficult to find focus on the screen or viewfinder unless you rely on focus peaking and trust that. The image is just too washed out to make critical manual focus decisions without peaking IMO. The camera has no LUT to monitor function that I am aware of. Maybe there's a hack for that?? But I have to agree that this camera has a great look even without Vlog . Use a viltrox speedbooster and the sigma 17-50 and you will get great images but not broadcast quality. Grading was surprisingly decent. But I would love to buy a GH5s and have the option of Vlog and 10 bit.. Maybe black friday or used?
@NatesFilmTutorials6 жыл бұрын
I'm actually thinking about upgrading to the c100 because of those reasons, there are some cons like 4K but its downscaled, and the 1080 is awesome much better than the DSLR's. There are a lot of pros. Yes the GH5 and GH5s look great too.
@puddytat626 жыл бұрын
I use a C300 M2 for most of the heavy lifting work but the beauty of the GH4/5/5s is that they are so small. Not as familiar with the C100 but I would guess it will be great...not sure about built in ND.... I think most people are dying for the new C200 . But I get the impression you are like me and will hang back being slightly behind the bleeding edge. I find with this GH4 you must use a lens with stabilization because it can be a bit jittery. The GH5 does solve this but I would opt for the GH5s and keep my Canon glass with optical stabilization. I'd prefer the slightly larger sensor and add a speed booster like the VIltrox I do have Cine lenses but with them wide open the depth of field is just too shallow in my opinion. Just too difficult to focus. Really with any camera including the C300...
@NatesFilmTutorials6 жыл бұрын
Good points, yeah I haven't made a desicion yet, but honestly the GH4 is great, much better than my previous Canon DSLR's. I do like to buy a slighlty older cameras just becuase I can find them for such good prices. I might pick up the viltrox. Thanks for your thoughts!

Hey Nate! I am in the market for a new camera and am between the GH4 and G7. I mainly do photography and have shot with a 5D Mark II, Olympus EM-5, Sony a6K, and a Fuji XT-10. I really love to dabble and learn and am starting to play around more with video. Ive heard that the GH4 is bad in low light and this concerns me for weddings and events. I have seen footage from that and nothing indicates that it is. With that info, which would you choose, GH4 or G7? Thanks for your time!
@NatesFilmTutorials6 жыл бұрын
Gabe Sanchez The G7 is slightly better in low light. But in practical use the GH4 has longer battery life and weather sealed, which maybe a very week reason to choose that over the G7. Perhaps taking a look at the GH5 or GH5s, a bit more expensive but does have better low light performance. I know that wedding venues are typically low light, but I would try to light what I could with portable LED lights which is a lot cheaper than a more expensive camera.

it is possible to show video on multiplex theater shooting by GH4 or Gh5 ?

Upstream Color and Musgo were shot on a hacked GH2 and shown in theatres, so it's definitely possible to shoot a theatrical release movie on the GH4 or GH5. Heck, The Raid: Redemption from Indonesia was shot on the Panasonic AF100. I've seen comments by a DoP who says he would take a GH5S over the Canon C500, and I spoke to a guy who thinks GH5S 400mbps footage compares well with RED Weapon ProRes files.

I say the two are equivalent upgrades, one might fit your needs better. G85 offers slightly better image, and IBIS, while the GH4 has better battery, anamorphic, better build, and 96fps slow motion.
@SoundSpeeding4 жыл бұрын
@@NatesFilmTutorials the battery life on a G85 is still great for a mirrorless, the G85 has good build quality with a weatherproofed body, anamorphic lenses are unlikely to be used at the budget level of a secondhand GH4/G85, and the 96fps on the GH4 is so bad many just stick to 60fps at max
