The optional AUDIO INTERFACE is one of the features that still sets the GH5 apart and one that doesn't get enough praise. It connects via the hot shoe and gives you two professional XLR inputs so you can record two sources directly in camera. No syncing audio in post! For shooting interviews or any content with audio, the interface is a necessity in my opinion. I use the Small Rig cage that's made to accommodate the audio interface, so it's pretty well protected. Hot shoes are not my favorite way to attach accessories, but I can overlook that in this case considering mounting this way doesn't really increase the footprint of the camera like adding a third-party XLR solution under the camera does. Better yet, I think the audio interface works with the new full frame Panasonics.

Thank you sir.....I have watched at least 15 reviews on the GH5, this one is unquestionably one of the best if not the best. I have been lusting after Canon EOS R, or R6, but the record limit and the workarounds for it, make them deal breakers. The market knows how special these cameras are too because it has been really hard to find one in good condition for under $1200 ($1600 including lens, v-log, and battery) so far this year. I will try to wait as long as I can for the price to drop further, but because of your compelling, thorough commentary, the GH5 is no doubt going to be mine soon.

Woow I have an ARRI BL that is over 35 years old and still holds up.!!!! What is the deal with the youtubers making every camera obsolete before their time? Last time I checked Networks still broadcast in 1080 and some sports in 720. NETFLIX co produce pieces are to be shot in real 4K, but everything else can be shot on GoPros and still make it to distribution. Plus I work for many corporations and Businesses and NONE of them demand cinematic 6k or 4K. I have a GH5 and its a fantastic camera, very light very versatile. I see there is a barrage of cameras coming out, but really use your money wisely, buy real estate.

Great comment! I bet i can still use the GH5 in 35 years too. Because the human eye is not as fast in development as technology is. We still are used to 2D pictures, 4k is enough for cinema sized screens even though people are using small smartphones to watch content. 3D failed several times. The only thing i can imagine that can be the "next big thing" is Virtual Reality. First steps are done. But that is not an issue for this discussion.

I really hope they go crazy with it. I'd actually love them to just flat out remove the EVF. Most people are using these cameras for vIdeo, and the EVF on my GH5 gets no use at all. Go the route Black Magic did, and just make it a pure mirrorless cinema camera. That would really shake things up! With all these amazing full frame cameras coming out, the GH6 really needs to do something amazing!
@Whatsup_Abroad4 жыл бұрын
They would probably lose 90% of their purchase base if they removed the EVF. It's a hybrid and used that way most of the time. I for one use the EVF all the time to shoot video. No reason to just use the back display, sometimes the evf works better.

We have also added a third image stabiliser system on the GH6. It is codenamed Trailstablazer as it is the first camera ever to use this. It makes video work close to that of the GH5S on a gimbal. As mentioned, the GH6 is like a G9, GH5 & GH5S all in one. It also has a new AF everyone is asking for. We have delayed the release because it takes a long time to develop and perfect. I had the GH4 and then bought a GH5 and then sold the GH4 for a G9 (because I actually am a hybrid shooter). I have battery grips fitted to both because I prefer the ergonomics. During that 7 year period I bought some lenses (ok I bought ALL the lenses) and a Moza Air Cross Gimbal (in Jan 2018) which works brilliantly with the GH5 (even with the - only recently purchased -Sigma 18-35 attached!). So I don’t feel the need to upgrade my Gimbal or my Cameras (for sure I will buy the GH6 but not right away). The other accessory I still haven’t bought is an Atomos Ninja V (yes it would be nice to have 4k 60 in 10bit and ProRes) because I haven’t yet needed it, I sometimes use a Neewer Cage with an iPad mini as my (wireless) Monitor. So, as a Budget Hybrid Shooter I am happy that I haven’t wasted a Penny on fancy schmancy gear (ok except maybe the Nocticron 42.5) as my entire collection probably cost me the same as an S1H with a standard zoom 🤷

Hey Stronz, I've recently bought a GH5 and am wondering what the focal length setting for the IBIS should be when using a 0.64 speedbooster with the Sigma 18 - 200mm (or any zoom)? I understand the math for a prime lens (say a 50mm on the speedbooster would be 0.64x50=32mm) but how does this work when it comes to a zoom which is changing all the time? One of the selling points of the GH5 for me was the IBIS as I tired of using a stabiliser with the GH4, so I want to make sure it works correctly. If you have any advice on this it would be super appreciated, thanks ✌️

You should make a video of how much an R5 body costs and compare it to a fully kittet out alternative. Like, instead of an R5 you can buy the GH5, 2 lenses, a drone, a light kit, gymbal, batteries, a monitor, etc. and ask the question if that new body really makes a difference.

Many comments comparing GH5 to FF cameras. Why? Different tools for different work IMO. Greater DoF helps in my video work, and the continuous recording of 4K 10bit 422 for as long as the battery lasts still makes this unbeatable. This is a video first machine, most FF are photo first. I wish people would stop comparing - you’re chasing Panasonic away from MFT with this nonsense 😉
@_tographer4 жыл бұрын
FF has some inherent advantages so for MFT to make sense, it needs to capitalize on what makes it unique. When the FF cams are now doing everything that made MFT special, the next MFT cams need to push beyond those current benchmarks to give strong reasons for shooters to go with the smaller sensor. This doesn’t apply to every single shooter but on average, the mindset that “bigger is better” is the general consensus in the marketplace. If MFT was truly what everyone wanted, Lumix would have far greater market share. Why is Sony growing so fast? Because they’ve embraced FF and true hybrid shooting. It’s amazing what happens when a company just gives users what they want. It’s not rocket science but it seems to be lost on many other camera makers.

Its a great camera... But camera's are tools and as a tool sure it has weather sealing, 5 axis stabilizations, 10bit 4K internal recording and so on BUT I don't care if people get defensive about it m43 sensors can't do anything over 3200 ISO without serious noise issues. A tool is a tool, your not going to buy a hammer that has a limit of how hard you can hammer it. If you shoot in controlled environments the GH5 is great, but if you are like me my GH5 I used for 2 months and got rid off simply because of the noise. All this talk about money is just dumb... You are not going to buy a camera and use kit lens with no equipment at all with it. If your intention is to start filming even as a hobby you will eventually end up with a 3K setup even with a 1K camera. You are better off just spending more on the body that you WILL be investing in, and investing in a M43 setup is dumb and I am tired of people recommending it... Its not a oh you buy a camera and bam your done. These guys recommend things they don't use and then when they talk about the camera they always have lenses that cost as much as the camera, don't be fooled. Its a tool stop being defensive and selling products while throwing out every caveat under the sun in order to sell it.

@Timothy J I DO think more detail makes for a more impressive image... but it has to look natural and organic... which the GH5 doesn't have. I really wish they would just release a "pro-image" setting that ACTUALLY turns everything off... but oh well. I've moved on to Blackmagic. Better camera for narrative cinematography.
