This camera is amazing. I really don't understand why everyone on youtube now thinks they need large format (full frame) video while hollywood is still content with S35 sensors for 90% of their films. Plus, run a speed booster on MFT and you essentially have a S35 sensor. I'm still pretty convinced MFT is they most versatile system available for lower budget filmmakers. Also I think it's pretty cool it still shoots stills - doesn't get used very often on my GH5, but once in a while I'm glad to have it.

Speed booster, eh? So you're gonna destroy even more image quality after being compared to large format video?
@maoraharon212 жыл бұрын
Hollywood has every aspect of the film under control. The lightning, lenses and focus etc. many youtubers on the other hand are one person team and having a reliable auto focus, good iso performance and more dynamic range is important. that's why people prefer the full frame cameras like the sony's and the canon's
@TJA862 жыл бұрын
@@trym2121 Clearly you've never used a GH5 and speedbooster. Unless you're pixel peeping or shooting natgeo/planet earth wildlife footage (and not uploading to youtube) you won't notice a decrease in quality from a speedbooster. Not to mention tons of people are putting soft/mist filters in front of their lenses anyway to get that 'cinematic' look, which is going to be a hell of a lot worse for your image quality than a speedbooster
@TJA862 жыл бұрын
@@maoraharon21 I guess that's a good point. If you don't have the time or ability to properly compose/light and set up a shot and need to rely on the camera to do it all for you, then large format certainly can offer a lot more room for error.

I reckon it's the perfect wedding video camera. You can shoot 4K/120 all day long for dreamy slomo and you can leave the gimbal and monopod at home because it's so stable. Only the MFT form factor allows for that level of image stabilisation. It's truly unique. I went from full-frame canon and moved to the G9 when it was finally time to retire the 5Dii. I'm kind of addicted to the smaller lenses and the stupidly useful IBIS. I think the GH6 would be my ideal camera. And yes, I'd use it for stills all day long. The only thing better than the GH6 is two GH6 cameras :) I think handheld 100MP is a gamechanger - especially from some of the test results I've seen. I think it's just as useful for stills as it is for video. I'd shoot a wedding with it (stills).

@@danieldougan269 The OM-1 is not a 95% camera, this is OMDS's top-level (professional) camera. This is were every detail matters. What counts in favor of the OM-1 is the hybrid autofocus and maybe a bit better low-light performance, and that it works better with Olympus/OMDS lenses. For everything else, the GH6 is more attractive (even for a non-videographer like me). I'm not a pro and I'm not currently in the market for a new MFT camera (having two Olympus models at my disposal). If Panasonic puts the 25 MP sensor in a "lesser", more affordable model, it might be the deciding factor for me when the time comes up to buy a new body.

The comment about a GH5 or this having 0 shutter clicks after years of use is how I got a GX85 to use as a backup/walk around body for stills for a solid used price with like 140 shutter count. I still really like the images I get out of my E-M1 Mark II and GX85, I see zero reason to sell it all and move my primary kit to another platform. I also like the ~16mp spot so much so that I've considered selling the E-M1 and picking up an E-M5 Mark II to get some of those features/slr style body to compliment the small rangefinder style GX85.

Full-frame is a PITA for everything except KZbin vlogging and portrait photography. Once a camera rig exceeds 3 lbs, it needs more support than you can sustain long-term with your wrists alone. With full-frame, your handheld options are pretty much limited to prime lenses. With MFT IBIS, you can easily use just about any wide or midrange lens handheld. The MFT advantage is even greater shooting video on a gimbal or monopod. Apertures f2.8 and lower are frequently needed for indoor video, and MFT offers many lens options. With full-frame, fast apertures produce such narrow depth-of-field it's a real challenge to keep moving subjects in focus. Both the GH6 and the GH5s can shoot video at ISO 6400 in 10-bit 422 with just as much dynamic range as any full-frame camera at literally half the weight and half the cost.

Not with rhe crazy compression in video. 77mbps is waaaay too low
@danny_r272 жыл бұрын
@@professionalpotato4764 missed the point of the OM-1 aiming to be a hybrid camera. Panasonic shouldn’t have even bothered putting a mechanical shutter in there like kai and lok said. It’s too bulky and heavy to be a stills camera, they stripped out a lot of photo features that were in the G9. Panasonic themselves have even said they’re not making a G9 successor so they already handed Olympus the win on the stills end before they even showed the GH6. I already knew this would happen so I hoped Olympus would bring in a phase detect af system that was even better than what’s in the M1X, a stacked backside illuminated sensor, a relatively compact body like the E-M1, all with a better resolution EVF and more features on the stills end than what Panasonic would put in the GH6. I’ve been using a G9 for 4 years, once they announced that there will be no G9 successor I knew Olympus would throw everything they had to make the ultimate MFT stills camera. And they’ve done so while taking video more seriously but not as crazy as the GH6. So to me of course the OM-1 would be the best camera of the 2.
@professionalpotato47642 жыл бұрын
@Danny _R27 Everything can be a hybrid, but the compromise in each mode is what matters. I think the om1 works well for a 80/20 or 90/10 stills/video type of shooter. The gh6 would be a complete reverse. That compression makes grading tough, even with 10 bit.
@danny_r272 жыл бұрын
@@professionalpotato4764 I was hoping that both the OM-1 and GH6 would be hybrid cameras. 60% stills and 40% video for the OM-1 and 40% stills for the GH6 and 60% video. But Panasonic’s marketing lately has been all video related, like they’ve abandoned stills and handed Olympus the win with in that area. Olympus never truly wanted to get into video so it’s like the just added similar video specs to the G9s firmware 2.0 update with slightly better slow motion and called it a day. But like I said, I knew way ahead of the reveal that they would be ignoring stills with the GH6 and that there will be no G9 successor. So the G9 is still their flagship stills MFT camera. I was really hoping for a G9 successor announcement a year ago but then they said there won’t be one so I knew Olympus would win me over eventually. I won’t be getting the OM-1 until like late September or early October. So I’ll still enjoy the G9 till then. The G9 has all the video features I want since firmware 2.0, so the Olympus OM-1 only had to match the G9 video capabilities to win me over for video. But they blew it away with stills, and it may only be 20 MP res but a stacked backside illuminated sensor is gonna do wonders for stills. Which is what I’m interested in the most. I was disappointed at the GH6 but happy for people that do video as it’s pretty much the ultimate run and gun MFT video camera while Olympus made the ultimate stills MFT camera with better video capabilities than their previous E-M1 Mark. III.
@professionalpotato47642 жыл бұрын
@@danny_r27 I feel you. They both went too deep in either direction (for better or for worse). I think Panasonic really need a G9 successor. I felt that the G9 was in more was a successful hybrid. Perfect price point, great features, even if there were limitations. Most people serious with video already have a Ninja V so that unlocks the full potential. I would love to see a G9ii or G10 that's basically a scaled down stills first GH6. No fan,3 way tilt but more compact would be nice, LongGOP for all recording modes and dual SD slots with a larger buffer to allow for 5-10s bursts. And it cannot be priced more than $1,500. The OM1 has me excited for some features like the better AF, the possibility of having good AF while vlogging using the Pana Leica 10-25 f/1.7. And the crazy weather sealing. I can see myself looking at an Olympus if I ever join my (pending) father-in-law for multiday hikes.
