Panasonic GX85 - Photo Walk

In my original GX85 review, I mostly focused on the video side of things. I realize the majority of the audience for these videos is probably more into photography, so let's go for a walk, take some pictures and talk about the Panasonic GX85.

The GX 85 holds a special place in my heart! It was so affordable (and still is) and from a pure image standpoint produces such beautiful stuff.

The GX85 is one of those digital cameras that can actually turn into evergreen classics. They're still so cheap and there's plenty available in new or slightly used condition at steep discounts. Grab them while you can at these prices. The thing with digital cameras from recent years is that people like the great ones so much, they're not throwing them back on the used market, even when they upgrade to something different. The GX85 is going to be such a great one I believe.

I have this exact same setup. It's so good that I've never taken the lens off this body. I'm very happy with my results.

I still use it and I found that touch to focus is an easy solution for the many times it hunts. But for architecture photography is the perfect simple setup. Set it to wide area focus, point, shoot, done. When I don't want to carry around the Nikon full-frame, this is my go to.

This camera is a jack of all trades nowdays. Still pricey, but better than has 4K but without an ibis like G7. Plus, the auto iso in manual mode is a step up from GX7.

Haven’t used my GX85 since I started using my Fuji gear. I love the size and and weight of the GX85 and the lenses. Love the B&W output. Maybe that is why I haven’t seen any problems with the Panasonic color science. Yes, IBIS and a phone jack would have been nice. That is why I have the G9. Of course, Fuji only has two current bodies with IBIS. Once you have it you don’t want to go back. Mask On Nurse Marty

Another great video, thanks Steve. I agree about the Panasonic Colour Science, it's kind of "Meh"..... But if you play around with the settings then it starts to come alive. I'm on a mission to get one of these to add to my (Small but slowly growing) camera collection, probably sometime next year. :)

Thank you for this video! I’ve been wanting a GX85 for photos for that everyday life factor you talked about towards the end of video. Granted my iPhone could take great shots and I don’t believe in “all phone photography” and that’s not slighting anybody who does that/runs a business that way. I don’t subscribe to being all in for phones for photos. Every video focuses a little hard on the video aspect of this little beauty, and I don’t really do video work. I’m trying to save up for one and whatever lens that’s comes with it if one does. But can it take an external flash?

The Panasonic jpgs can look flat sometimes and lacking dynamic range. They might be the best value in the world of cameras but the color science is a downer unless you always shoot in RAW.

It would be nice to see photos with printed setting over laid . not videos with some one taking photos

I used to do that in the old days but I realized 99% of people don’t care. Plus it’s a photo walk with the same lighting so all of the settings are the same. The whole video is basically 1/400 of a second, f1.7 ISO 100. Nothing really changes. Seeing that exact same settling on every single photo just becomes repetitive and annoying.
