I bought this bad boy last year and used it for a Winter (Church) wedding coupled with the Leica 25mm f1.4 and the results were amazing.

Ok so I haven’t used it since then but, it’s time will come again. As an example, I haven’t used my 35-100 f2.8 in several years nor the 100-300 but I have been asked to photograph a soccer match this weekend so now’s their chance!

Dope review. I haven’t looked much into cine lenses yet. But at some point I probably will but your videos on these different lenses definitely helps!

Hey Curt, yeah I have thought about going all cine lenses in the past. The great thing is that if I got all of the same brand they would have consistent color.

Great personality and a solid look at the Nocticron. I picked up mine, along with most of the other PanaLeica primes besides the 200mm monster, from a friend all great condition for the price of a well used Nocticron and have really loved them since. The 12-60 PanaLeica zoom is a solid pick up these days used and it has weather seals, sadly one of the few weaknesses of the 42.5 1.2. These PanaLeica lenses are one of the few ways to get great natively designed Leica glass without selling a kidney or two or picking up one of the PanaLeica compact cameras.

So good to see your new piece. That lens has always been the pinnacle Panasonic lens for mm4/3, nothing but raves over it. I only own the cheap, cheap version, which I bought used, but is one of my favorite lenses of all. An awesome focal length for the gh5. I doubt I'll ever own the Leica version as, wow, it is a bit spendy. Great video as always!

Hi Randy, yeah it is really pricey. But it was so nice to use (really nice and compact too). I am hoping after I test out a few other lenses (the f1.7 version and the Olympus version) if I decide to go with the f1.2 I can scoop it for a steal off of ebay.

On G9 you can set compatible lenses to linear focus mode which emulates mechanical focus, I wonder why they didn't put it in GH5 instead because it's super useful for video making.

Good question!

I think that feature was added to the g9 and lens firmware after this video was made. Not sure if it is on all G series now or not.

Nice video as usual! Have you tried out the Olympus 45mm f1.2? If not, man you have got to try it. The manual focus clutch is game changer, and the bokeh is somehow beautiful looking compared to other native lumix glass I have used.

Very nice. Love to see you take out the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.2 PRO Lens and see how you like it compared to the Panasonic. A bit more heft...but the manual focus ...Next rental? - Keep them coming Thomas!

Hi Ray, yep, a few people in the comments have mentioned the Olympus version. It's not available at my usual rental house so I am guessing that I'll have to rent it online.

The Olympus 45mm Pro is a super lens, although the manual focus isnt quite as good as a dedicated manual focus lens like a Voigtlander. On the plus side, the 45mm Pro has very little focus breathing, whereas the Panasonic 42.5 seems to show it in this video.

Hi Thomas, another great review, Ive the Panasonic 42.5 f1.7 which I use a lot for bridal prep/groom prep. Reading the comment from Emmanuel Wallace and having bought a couple of Olympus lenses, I think that I would plum for the manual focus clutch and go for the Olympus 45mm f1.2. Its a bit more expensive over in Northern Ireland but possible to pick up second hand.

Hi Gary, thanks for the advice, I will definitely rent the Olympus as soon as I find a spot that has one. I also want to try out the Lumix 42.5 f1.7 version as well.

Great review, I’m gonna try to give my old Nikon 50/1.8 a chance before considering this one. Love the feeling of the manual focus on old primes. Also considering an adapter for my old Pentax K lenses. Probably gonna end up buying the 42.5/1.2 in the end...

Hi Henrik, that Nikon 50mm is a very nice lens. The only thing abou tthe 42.5 f1.2 is it is pretty pricey. I have it in my ebay watch list so I can hopefully get it for a steal..
