I'm glad you appreciated my thumbs up :-) I only have one Leica-pana so far, the 15mm, but I do like it. Before that I bought the 16mm Sigma, but I've hardly used it for a variety of reasons. This lens is on my radar as a complement to my 14-140 in terms of a 2 lens all purpose kit with one body, probably my GX9 for travel. Notably, the 14mm point of the 8-18 lens has the same maximum aperture as the 14mm bottom end of the 14-140 super zoom :-) A perfect pair, perhaps.

Basically as good as for color photography. 12-35 f2.8 and 15mm f1.7 are my favorite small lenses.

Thank you, that also depends on what camera are you using it on. For Panasonic I would go with 8-18 because of the DFD, for Olymups cameras, 7-14 might be better choice because in-camera corrections won't work with 8-18.

These Leica lenses have great color contrast. It is why I spend the extra money. They remind me of good quality Zeiss lenses when we are concerned about color reproduction. When I used Fuji I preferred the Zeiss 32mm Touit for that reason over Fuji lenses. It was about color reproduction and quality of the bokeh. Anyways, I would like to buy this lens someday and I am excited to see what happens when Panasonic releases their Full-frame. I am just hoping their auotfocus can compete with Sony and others.

Thank you, this lens is generally suitable for that, if you want very shallow depth of field and wide angle on G9, you can also get 12mm F1.4, but it is quite expensive and less versatile.

But I'm still debating between this and the Voigtlander 10.5mm F0.95, yes i know it's a manual lens but with the wide open F0.95 really help my gh5 in low light but this lens Leica lens is great all around lens. For real estate I use the lighter 7 -14 daily. It has less barel distortion than 8 - 18 (my back up lens). downside 7 - 14 is prone to flares but you can work around that. for my work i dont need f2.8. Panasonic G9 is excellent. Dynamic range is as good as nikon aps-c I think. In the little noise there is there are no strange colour artifacts. For rw2 conversion I like free Silkypix and On1 raw. So no Lightroom.

Was thinking about switching out my Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO for one of these. That lens is huge and bulky... although it has rectilinear optics, the excitement is held back a little bit due to the lack of a filterthread on there. There are some 3rd party solutions, such as 3D printed ones, but honestly... it's just not ideal. The 8-18mm would add a bit more practicality and 17mm is one of my favourite focal lengths for MFT, so that it covers that makes it very versatile as well. Did think in the beginning when it first got released that all footage shot with it wasn't very impressive and not really Leica-like. With these zoom lenses, the Leica 12-60mm as well, I didn't really see much of an edge over the way more affordable 12-60mm Lumix version (which is tremendous value considering it has OIS and weathersealing). Though, as it always is with lenses... everything's worth considering when the price is right. So, not rushing it and waiting for like a double cashback from Panasonic at some point or something, then it might turn out to be a nice addition to the collection (100+ lenses lol).

In my opinion both 12-60 and 8-18 have very different (better) optical character than Lumix lenses. It is clearly visible if look at side-by side pictures. The contrast, color reproduction and rendition of bokeh is completely different.

Panasonic seems to have perfected the micro 4/3 lens. All three lens commented on today are absolutely state of the art and compete with any other lens system on the market at comparable if not a lot more expensive prices. Would you care to comment on the current discussion about the future viability of micro 4/3 that a certain KZbin camera reviewer has started with a questionaire? I personally would be severely disappointed if m4/3 disappears. There is definitely a place for this format in my opinion, especially in the overall size and quality of system that this format produces. Thanks again for this very informative review.
