Gotta agree with you. Your last review helped me decide to buy this lens. The filter ring is a must have as i shoot mainly outdoors. There's only one issue, when vlogging handheld with G85 the image can "warp." I think this is common on wide angle lens? I'm not sure. Either way, I'm gonna pick up a GH5 soon
@TheHybridShooter4 жыл бұрын
That issues was supposed to be fixed on G9 and GH5 via FW update, I'm not sure about G85. It is common when using IBIS with ultra-wide lenses, but I haven't found that to be an issue with GH5 and 8-18.

Very nice video, thank you for posting :-) I was just at a store and bought the 42,5mm F1.2 at a superb price and also tried the 8-18 and 10-25, both feel great. One of those lenses (or the 15mm F1.7) will be my next purchase, though I am having a hard time deciding which one. How do you feel they compare? I was surprised as to how light the 10-25 felt, I expected much more heft and was happily surprised I didn't notice the weight much at all. Comparing two extra mm at the wide and or 7 extra at the long end + much faster lens is tough though... and I already have the lovely PL 25 F1.4... It's though when one has to choose between superb and superb stuff :-P /Rasmus

If it’s the Leica 10-25 f1.7, then this is a magnificent lens, which I have but use very seldom. One point is that is so big and heavy that no normal gimbal can handle (at least not the Ronin-S or similar). I found a way to balance it on the Ronin-SC but let me say that it’s a very “unconventional” arrangement, which I took more as a challenge rather than as a solution. Yes... the price is a major difference. At the end the comparison is only worth for what use you intend to do.

Hi! Good review. It sounds as if it is a great lens. I considered getting it, and I think if I didn't already have the 7-14, I would have got it, but I really love my 7-14, and for my purposes it is great. I like having the 7mm option, I love the rubber focus ring and I have always loved how it looks. (Not the most important thing about a lens, but I do like it). I generally shoot outdoors in good light, so f/4 is fine, and I purchased a really nice adaptor so I can use screw on ND filters, so that isn't a restriction for me. I use the 14-140 as well, so the 7-14 combines nicely with that in terms of covering a good range. That being said, the 8-18 sounds a great lens and I'm sure will be the better lens for most. 🙂. I enjoy your reviews, always well presented, good content and helpful. Thanks.

I bough the 8-18 in January used from ebay for 620€ and mainly use it for video. On the G85 it works really well in combination with Battery Grip and 67mm ND Filters, you can get great quality image that is also stabilized in body on little movements. I want to pick up a gimbal but my budget is not allowing the Moza or Zhiyun.. i don't know if a steady cam makes sense for this combination. I can spend around 200€ rn. A hint would be very nice! I love your videos. They are well structured and have a very good mixture of close ups and footage from the camera/lens etc. what ever you are reviewing. Would be great to meet you some day to talk camera equipment :)
