I just bought this bad boy, so sick of my 20mm 1.7 focus breathing.

bought this as soon as it was available, it has been almost glued to my G9 ever since (most of the time it's been off the G9 has been to go on my GX9 (and for shits and giggles took it out on my GF1 for a full day of shooting - turns out actually a good pairing there as well) this, the 15mm 1.7 the 25mm F1.4 and the Oly 45 1.8 is now my standard bag pack for photography use

Same here, except with my G100. Fantastic little kit. Also with the Leica 15mm F1.7.

I bought it to go with my GH5m2 as I didn't have any proper auto-focus lenses for Post Focus. While I do prefer shooting in wide angles, I got this because I can't afford the Leica 10-25mm f/1.7 nor the Leica 12mm f/1.4, and I have to say even this is a bit too wide for me. The stabliser wobbles when wide open really throw me off, but I just resign myself to just shoot in the pixel/pixel modes and it's fine. I have even been tempted to trade it back in for the Lumix 30mm macro. However, I very much agree with you: this is a very fun lens.

I pair this lens with a GX9 ...mostly for out and about street photography here in Bangkok...I love it!...my former wide rig was an eosM3 with a Voigtlander 12/5.6 ( one meter and f8). LOL Small and lightweight rules!

I've been using the 9mm on my GH5 MKII since it came out. I also use it when livestreaming with vMix. It creates a particularly nice studio atmosphere. Only the autofocus settings I had to change in the menu. Meanwhile it is one of my favorite lenses.

Nice! It's got a great look about it. I might end up grabbing one coming up. I love how small, light, and simple it is and it's a lot of fun to use. :)

@@GeekyNerdyTechy that's right. Panasonic has brought a really great lens to the market at a great price - it is a must have.

@GeekyNerdyTechy Жыл бұрын
The 18mm f1.8 S Series Prime is the one you want for the S5II. The 20-60 kit lens does a great wide end at 20mm as well.
@fellowcitizen Жыл бұрын
It's such a great intersection of price, weight and capability that the only thing holding me back is whether I should direct those funds toward the pricey S-S18mm for L-mount -- that would match with the S-S85mm, and also serve as a bright 28mm on the TL2.

I used this lens on my GH5 and GH6. I like the small and lightweight size, how wide it is, how close up you can get with it and that it doesn't have any noticeable focus breathing. My only issue is that the corners are a bit soft which is noticeable when in photos, but for videos the extreme edges are cropped of, so not really an issue there. I'd put this on my top 3 M 4/3 lenses I have used, the other two being the Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO for its sharpness and versatility and Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 II for how compact it is and how sharp it is straight from f/1.7 and I would like to see an updated Leica variant of the 20mm lens.

Thanks for yet another great review. I already own the 15mm "version" and I am quite happy with it, so I wonder if the 9mm is made to the same level of quality (physically and optically)? Thanks
@artjohnson01 Жыл бұрын
I’ve got the 15mm for wide and the Laowa 7.5mm for superwide. I wish the PanaLeica 9mm was available when I got lhe Laowa. It would have been an interesting choice. I have to say the Laowa really exceeds my expectations. I was blown away by the build quality. Nevertheless, that PanaLeica would have been very tempting.

Perfect review. I was wondering how it compared to the 12-35mm.

I've got the 15mm for $230. This lens will Def be next when it drops in price. Is the 9mm autofocus better than 15mm? Bc yk that one is terrible
@giantorangerecords4 ай бұрын
How would you compare this to the Laowa 6mm for a super wide angle? I mostly use the Lumix G85 for video, but imagine I'd take more photos if I had this thing. Great videos, thanks for the reviews! My stock 12-60mm lens has some limitations.
@GeekyNerdyTechy4 ай бұрын
Laowa lens is great but having AF works wonders on some of the new cameras for video. They are both very good. From memory, this one is lighter but the Laowa is way wider.
@giantorangerecords4 ай бұрын
@@GeekyNerdyTechy thanks! I think I’d rather have autofocus and match the brand of the camera and the lens rather than have 3 extra mm. Though my kit lens for the LUMIX G85 is a 12-60mm, and at 12mm it doesn’t seem wide enough for what I’d like to see. Is the 9mm that much wider than the 12mm? And I wonder if that 3mm is worth $500.

I think MFT needs to go in the path of compact bodies, we need a next-gen GX from Panasonic, this would pair perfectly with body competing with something like a Sony APS-C ZV-e10.

that's a completely different focal length and field of view. It's much tighter so I would expect it to be sharper especially out towards the corners.

Well, it's a mixed bag. Plastic fantastic design. No button release on hood. No manual focus clutch or any kind of AF switch on lens body. Sharpness is fine in the center, but not very uniform so there is quite a roll of at the corners. It's amazing how the 10-25 mm f1.7 zoom is much sharper overall even if it's not a prime. Yes it's small and cheap - which when you think about it is the main cause of the mixed optical performance. Two thumbs up for gimbal use. Personally I wish for a 6-12mm f1.7 zoom with comparable quality to the 10-25mm and 25-50mm Leica lenses.
