I like Panasonic because they don't treat their customers like idiots. You get waveforms, shutter angle, vlog, prores(!). Their mid-level cameras feel like professional gear, whereas something like a Canon R8 feels like a pos that you want to immediately upgrade. I had the original G9 and am still holding on to the GX80 and i don't understand what the issue is supposed to be with the AF. If you're in AFS, DFD works as good as anything else, and the new ones have phase detect. I just shot dragonflies in flight today with my G9II. Yesterday I shot bee eaters. Yet some of you out there can't seem to get your dog in focus. The lenses are ridiculously cheaper and lighter. I found the 200mm f2.8 for $750. A 400mm f5.6 for FF is at least 3x that without a TC. Same story with a lot of other lenses. Dollar for dollar it's an extremely hard to beat system. I travel with a backpack and to me, being able to save 1kg on my camera gear is absolutely huge.

I have the S5IIX And I agree that Panasonic offer more bang for buck than any camera within its price range. I think the problem with them as a company is: 1. They are relatively slow to adapt to the industry. I saw an interview wherein a representative explained their slow adoption of the PDAF was because they wanted to see the limits of contrast detect. While in spirit that is a good idea, I think pushing the tech should be in response to market and not a desire to just maximise a value without any single customer in mind. 2. I think their marketing is honestly their biggest hurdle to their success. Sony makes sure to put these cameras in front of big names, doing big projects and for the life of me, I can't remember seeing that from Panasonic at all. 3. I think the master of all situation doesn't really allow them to have that one thing they can always say "we are the best at" besides stabilisation. Which is nice, but it's not enough for people to leave eco-systems. I think they should really be pushingthe convenience and adaptability of the camera more than anything else

I took a 1min clip of two dragonflies fucking through the reeds today, and it held onto them for the entire time. 🤗 If you have it on all focus points, it might get distracted, but with single point plus or focus groups it has worked for me. And if you have it on animal detect, it will not detect humans properly. You have to tell it what you want it to detect.

Sure it's annoying having to mount it somehow, but most people put small cages on their cameras anyway. Panasonic MFT is where they should be focusing (rimshot) imo at least for their shooter-centric stuff. The G100 and GX series are wonderful portable cameras, let down only by aged sensor tech... if they'd update MFT bodies to new sensors with PDAF alongside something like a 14-90mm f1.8 travel zoom I wouldn't even think before buying it. The error they made was thinking they could outshoot the big three on full frame, without the tech to actually compete. Put phase detect autofocus already into G 85 II (with an updated sensor, not the same 20 year old stuff) and stop charging for your decent lenses like they are made of gold. You are not Leica, you don't sell to rich doctors driving Mercedes S. The market for small sensor huge cameras with pro-level video like the GH7 is too small to sustain a company as the main line. Other than a few dedicated pros or enthusiasts, who TH wants to lug around a nearly 2-lb camera with an MFT sensor costing US $2,200 body only, when you can get a Nikon with a better sensor, smaller body, for US $1K *with* a good lens? Panasonic is on drugs, and alas, most KZbinrs feed Panasonic delusion by ignoring their non-competitiveness for the mainstream buyers.

Can you take a week and rage against Pentax for a change? It should be a conundrum, since Pentax doesn't do video or even mirrorless, but they use the same K mount as their vintage glass, and the vintage glass works without any adapters, including AF lenses from the AF film days. Lots of stuff there. Pentax. Big logo on the front.

only review models got around so far so I'll wait to see new owners using it , There's still a lot of people with mft glass so it will appeal to them first and foremost , but there's also many affordable mft cinema lenses nowadays. also you don't need a gimbal for it which is a big selling point , and beside the additional audio unit and a mic you don't need any more gear to produce some serious video with its internal storage nowadays many places will require a filming license if you show up with a bulky filming setup. with mft you can even get away with a long zoom lens .. so street shooters will also love it for the photography side. the only compromise is depth of field and low light which doesn't seem all too bad by the few tests I've seen but a fast lens can cure that. In many ways its much better then the fx30 which has terrible and unusable stabilization.

The Nikkor 85mm 1.8 G is a nice lens. I had it for my old Nikon DSRLs. Good price and image quality and fairly light. Not sure about 3D pop though :) I think the 85mm Z lens has a bit more contrast. Not sure if that is worth the price though.
@bailey.nt867 ай бұрын
I never had a bad shoot with the 85mm f/1.8g for what it is, and the price. It's a beautiful lens. I never thought " gee i really should have got the f/1.4 g instead." It's not super bad for video either on a Z body. Nikon never replaced the 135mm f/2 DC FX with a G version cause that lens was that damn good. It won't autofocus on Z bodies because it doesn't have a built-in autofocus motor. If you would like an autofocus 135mm on a Z body, your only option is the $2,500 "plena" which is a real shame.
@oliverdesouza57417 ай бұрын
The 85mm f1.8 looked fine, but the f1.4 is better pop-wise. You don't need the 1.2 unless you are doing lots of portrait work on the side. Obviously, a 50mm is better for full body shots. It also looks like you were in Rich Tone Portrait for the outdoor shots. Standard, Portrait or Neutral would be better to reduce the saturation a bit.

Wow this one is really ruffling the Panny boy's feathers in the comments.🤣 Some people take it so personal when you get critical of their chosen brand. If a particular system is working for YOU and it's putting food on your table then who cares what others think. Like I would pick up the S5 IIX in a heart beat because it straight up kicks ass when it comes the video features and at $500 less than the A7IV like what? False colour, BRaw external recording. Yes please! However when it's comes to actually using it on jobs I do, it some how manages the to fall short in the odd areas. Like you lose phase detect autofocus in HD 120. Huh? No 4k 120? Okay fine 4k 60 then but it has a 1.5 crop. We got 6k open gate but no 4k 120 and cropped 4k60. Why Panny why? You were so close. With the Sony APSCs FX30/A6700 I get my high frames including HD 240 but lose all the pro video features. Like how they gonna call the FX30/3 cinema cameras and as of writing there's no shutter angle? They took the resources to implement that junk focus mapping mode but no waverform, false color or vector scope? All we go for exposure are the zebras because that histogram just trash. Sony why you make us suffer like this? Damn I went straight rant mode just now lol

That said, my GH4 can do things that a GoPro or my phone can't do and I appreciate it greatly. Also, if someone tries to grab it I laugh and say good luck pawning that shit dude! Thinking to ditch all my older 6D canon FF DSLR and L lenses along with or my Olympus M4T kit (just impossible to get a very shallow depth of field and bokeh, even a F1.0 is f2, on FF so many reasonable priced options for 1.8 or larger aperture) for Fuji (for the hands on experience, getting shallow dof seems unnecessarily expensive compared to FF though) or FF Panasonic (for the Leica lite look fairly priced FF lenses in DOF terms). What a lovely choice to have from Panasonic

This is BY FAR your worst video ever. Shame on you. Panasonic is the videographer's only real friend on the market. They're a onemanband camera man's dream.. They are the only ones that give you the specs and analytical tools of a first class cinema camera. I agree they were late on phase detect, but when they did it they did it right, and the AF is excellent and utterly dependable. One more iteration and they will surpass Sony AF. Note Gerald Undone's recent videos of the GH7. It's a sterling review, as were those on the S5ii. And the S5 and S5II have wonderful images with stellar stabilizatoin. The cameras are totally fluid to use, and supremely programmable. I could NEVER go back to using Sony, with their weird colors and horrific menus, and shaky stabilization, or Canon---a company that manifestly HATES hybrid cameras and hybrid camera shooters, and they constantly punish video shooters. They continually cripple their hybrid cameras and try to force you into their ultra high priced, studio-limited cinema cameras. Big money, lean in specks. Try to get a simple white balance on a Canon camera---get my point. You start shooting in the early morning, and by evening you're still trying to get the white balance. Horrible. And they continue to do this model after model. They care nothing about you but to take your money, with their overprices garbage. And resale value?!?!? You lose thousand of dollars on their cinema models. I recently purchased a C300 mk ii for $2000.00. Original cost? $16,000.00. Absorb that depreciation on your budget! Panasonic doesn't do anything of the sort. They're the best value BY fAR on the video market. They're a great company, and they seem to be carrying on the Kaizen philosophy fuji has abandoned. Their cameras are reliable and the best, their v-log is a dream to edit. Compare that to S-Log as you tear your hair out to try to make it look anything that's remotely natural. Sony never looks right, and it's almost impossible to figure out what's exactly wrong with it.. As for you, just wait until Hell freezes over before you see C4k in a Canon or Sony camera. Not that it matters, since their hand held footage is totally useless and impossible to grade. I wouldn't shoot my kids 5 year birthday party on a Sony---if I had one. (A 5 year old, that is.) Shame on you, biting the hand and tearing down on the only camera company that feeds the needs of the video shooter. Have you ever seen the Panasonic FB page? It's filled with video shooters. REAL video guys, who are not so crazy to demand 960 slow-mo. Then look at the others, and all you find there are pixel peepers obsessing over their boring photos. You have better content that this! If I were you, I would apologize to Panasonic for being so viciously unfair to the brand and the company. Come up with some appreciation for Panasonic's efforts, which are consistently better and better. Even the S9 is good for those it is made for. And, bye the way, there's such bad information on this video on Panasonic I'd strike it from my content. Shame on you!

The other disappointment that strayed me away from the Panasonic full frame cameras is their lack of good native glass. EVERY other brand has a 16-35 F2.8 native glass. However Panasonic has the crappy 16-35 F4… come on Panasonic… I don’t want to get a sigma, I want a bag full of Panasonic glass and their S1 series, NOT a single of them has good autofocus. So you’ll have to buy non native glass with a poor autofocusing camera. The business model doesn’t make any sense. Then they sabotage their own products, if you bought a S1, the S5II is almost better in every way. I understand offering more bang for your buck BUT why would you offer the S5II before you released the S1II or the S1HII, you know?
@ScreenFiends7 ай бұрын
There could certainly be more native glass, but to say the native glass they have is poor is abject nonsense. The 50mm f1.4 pro is one of the best lenses I have ever used on any system, they have two 70-200 (an f/4 and 4/2.8) thier line up of f/1.8 primes are some of the most well thought out lenses avaible, ranging from 18mm to 85mm with the same size, weight and dimensions, their lenses have some of the best breathing correction, meaning there is no need for the camera to fix this issue in the camera. Also the S5II came out 4 years after the S1, it should be better than the S1. The S1II will be better than the S5II, welcome to cameras 101. I will admit though, that keeping users waiting such a long time for the S1 evolution is highly frustrating. Once a reasonably priced camera comes out that features everything I need, I will be buying that system, regardless of brand. The Nikon ZIII is sounding promising.
