Wow, I have never seen someone get straight to the point so fast, everything that was said was useful and informative, it was like a firing round of information about the lens, amazing job, one of the best lens reviews I've ever seen

This is very interesting. I don't know if it's a regional thing or what exactly is going on, but I have this lens in silver - it's nine years old now. This lens can be prone to barrel separation when the glue in the front barrel dries up. This happened to mine and I had to take it apart and re-glue it (!). What was interesting to discover though was that the entire shell was, in fact, made of a very fine aluminium with a poly-carbonate core . Also, mine has a metal bayonet connector - go figure. I am in the UK - and mine came as a kit lens so perhaps the metal construction has something to do with that. All I can say is, I was kind of happy it fell apart in the end. It's a great little lens. It's great to know it comes in a metal guise as well - even if that doesn't stop it falling apart!😄

I just subscribed about a half hour ago after watching some of your older micro four thirds camera reviews. And now this. What a coincidence hahahah. Anyways, I have to say, your reviews are better than 99% of youtubers out there and I thank you and appreciate the quality of videos.

I think THIS is the stand-out lens from many of the cheaper common Panasonic pancake lenses. I'm thinking of 14mm f2.5, 20mm f1.7 etc. It's very light-weight, cheap, compact, sharp pictures (for it's size), nice zoom range and even with stabilization? So many good things going for it. Size, weight and focus wise it's very close with the 14mm f2.5, which is VERY impressive! But i'd say the zoom delivers sharper pictures, but 14mm has more character. Maybe the only real knock i'd put against it would be the build quality. I have original type which came with GM1 and has a metal mount. The build quality is so flimsy (seems like almost aluminium to me) that the lens can easily take damage even from the slightest of knocks. I'd say it's the worst build quality (toughness wise) i've seen from Panasonic. Maybe the more modern versions are better in this regard. Great cheap lens, i truly recommend! The tiny size will surprise you.

The oldest ones (which came with the GM1) had metal mounts, and also had a problem with failing adhesive which holds the zoom ring on.

Came with GX85. Not too happy with it, but it's tiny, which is nice. Looks ridiculous on GH5s/G9, which is also a plus.

Do you think this lens is better image quality than the GX Vario lumix 14-42mm lens or the Olympus ez 14-42mm pancake lens ?
@Camerahoarders6 ай бұрын
More or less similar. I would avoid Olympus 14-42 as it is powered zoom, not mechanical like Panasonic.

Did you update the lens to version 1.2 which offers now Dual IS 2 - does it remove in video the slight jiggle compared to Dual IS 1 ? Thanks for checking it out

Good review! This and its stablemate - 35-100mm/f4-f5.6 - make a great compact kit for any MFT camera. Small, high IQ and OIS. My version has a metal mount. 🤔

Why in fl 32mm i cant set F stop to 3.5?
@Camerahoarders4 жыл бұрын
This is a variable aperture lens, it gathers less light the more you zoom in. It is a compromise to make it smaller and more affordable.

I still have one in my bag, just in case. It came with my G1. It's a good lens, pretty sharp for its size and an excellent match for small M43 cameras, but it has a design flaw: the zoom ring is glued to the case. After some years of use, the glue melts and the ring becomes loose. It's an easy fix though with double sided tape. Thanks for the review!

this is an incredibly slow setup. f8 ff equivalent at best. in this day and age there’s no reason to use a camera with a sensor this small in a camera this big.
@1fareast144 жыл бұрын
This is true of every kit lens. I'm not a fan of manufacturers giving slow zooms over fast primes as starter/kit lenses. That being said, this was the lens I had before I built up a kit of primes. It collected dust for a long while after, till a hike through the grand canyon forced me to use a zoom. It performed just as well afterward. The rendering was noticeable worse, but it got me the shot where changing lenses was a no-go. I can't think of a smaller setup with this zoom range short of a 1" compact.
