If you shot at 24fps instead of 60, you could lower your shutter to 1/50 or 1/48 instead of 1/120 and get more light into your sensor.

I'm looking for a similar comparison. Nice to reach 60 (120mm) but in reality this 12-60 2.8-4 lens has F2.8 aperture only at 12mm, even at 13mm you lose light and at half of the focal lenght you're almost at F4.. quite bad if you consider it cost the same as 12-35 f2.8. I know you less reach but for m43 camera light is everything to get decent result :) maybe I'll go for the 12-35 lens

Very nice video. I love the colour and sharpness👍 The GH5 is indeed great for video. Im using the G9 with the 12-60mm lens you tested. No complaints except that I hate focusing manually with it.

If you already have the 12-35 (or any f/2.8 lens) with a few months worth of shots, see how many of these are below F4. This may help in determining if you should get the faster aperture.

at night you could switch to pana 25 f/1.4 or something, it will be much better than f/2.8 anyway. before this thought I wanted fastest zoom available, but you'll be penalized with price and weight. now I'm choosing between this lens and oly 12-100 f/4, that a bit weighty.

Yeah, I agree. I recently bought the 25mm and 42.5 F1.7 on B&H on sale. They are so light, I'm definitely bringing them on my trip. I want to stay with Panasonic as much as I can so I can get Dual IS 2 lol

I agree with Sergey, f/2.8 is too slow anyway when in a low light situation. You'll have to cranck up the ISO and it's never a good solution. 12-60mm is more flexible at the tele end and the future 50-200mm will be a killer lens to pair it with.

When will GX9 and GX95 release? Should I get the DSLR style G camera or the rangefinder style GX camera? Does it make a big different in carry and shooting? I'm looking for my first camera, was plan for RX10 series to cover wide and super tele but a lot people suggest to get an interchangeable camera so I decide to get A7 III(I don't like A6XXX series because how Sony treat this system) when it's out but it's big so I look for Fuji, I like the straight forward Shutter dial and aperture ring without need for mode dial, but their lens electronic contact are proprietary and never has many third party involve to build lens with autofocus, so as much as I want to get the XE3, this seem like a pulling leg for me. Then I look at Panasonic camera, like he LX10, P&S but with manual aperture ring and dial, is this for me? Then the LX100, this seem like more for me but it's deserve an update that doesn't know when it will come, then I check their GX8 and GX85 system, they are ok but still I will waiting for next models because there's something I don't like, but is this camera for me? GX9 or GX95? Does the lens system good? I shoot as a hobbyist/enthusiast, about lifestyle, travel, daily, architecture, indoor, product, street, and so on. After have a camera, I want to shoot night sky, wildlife/bird,

I had the 12-35 f2.8 first - But I wanted more reach, so I sold it and bought the leica 12-60mm - I head reach and better background compression - YES! But I missed the constant 2.8 aperture. So I just bought the 12-35mm f2.8 used for 350bucks (amazing deal! Excellent condition). Moral of the story: Buy both LOL - I have the 12-60mm when I go out with my kids, on a hike, on a walk, jus a walk around lense in daytime. But I bring the 12-35mm manily for video or when I shoot indoors. Neither of these are really greta low light lenses though. I woul use the leica 15mm f1.7 or the 25mm primes for real low light. I love both lenses for different uses.

I've heard the 12-60 has a weird manual focus/ hard to manual focus with the electronic ring? Is this a deal breaker when I decide to buy this lens, since I will mostly use manual focus for shooting?
@danielsin
@danielsin 7 жыл бұрын
+KwasnikPictures yeah it's focus by wire so it's calculating it electronically. Which is not very accurate if you want to hit the same focus point. I wouldn't say it's hard to focus because I can see the focus peaking and I can stop turning the focus ring when it hits the spot. If you do serious cinema work where you marked you're talent at 7 feet walking to their 2nd point at 3 feet and made points on your focus ring then it will not be %100 accurate.

The Olympus 12-40 F 2.8 is the best one. Farther reach than the 12-35, sharper, and has a much better build quality. Th 12-60 is only really F2.8 at 12mm, so that is kinda sucky.

Whats up man, I really enjoyed this video. It was exactly what I have been looking for. My girlfriend wants to get into vloging so we got the Lumix g7 and the kit lens makes it hard to fit her face in the screen when she is holding the camera (she has short arms). We want to get a wider lens but I would also like it to have POWER O.I.S. because her videos are so shaky and I dont think the MEGA O.I.S. on the kit lens is cutting it. What would you recommend? We have been looking at the Panasonic lumix 7-14mm lens but from my research it doesn't appear to have power ois. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
@danielsin
@danielsin 7 жыл бұрын
+DIYallday in terms of power ois I assume you mean by duel image stabilization? So far I don't know if any wide lens that would offer that kind of stabilization. Even the newer panny 8-16mm doesn't offer stabilization. I know these lenses here does have stabilization in the lenses plus the ibis. I recently bought and reviewed Laowa 7.5mm ultra wide angle lens. It doesn't offer any stabilization at all but it is a somewhat fast lens. If you need all the stabilization you can get i would go for the 12-35mm since it does offer it.

Hi! I have a question for you. Hope you could answer me. This is the gear that i own: kit.com/Filmsvanrenger/video-kit. So now i'm looking for an other lens instead of the kitlens. So that's made me decide to choose between the 12-35 or the 12-60. The good thing about the 12-35 is that it has the f2.8 on full range. BUT the 12-60 has some more reach. So you reather prefer the 12-35 above the 12-60?
@danielsin
@danielsin 7 жыл бұрын
+renger van esveld it's very situational. If I know I'll be shooting with one lens all day including past sunset, I would pick the 12-35. The only time I'll use the 12-60 is when I know there will be plenty of light. Or when the low light isn't my priority, I'll grab the 12-60
@RalphVentura
@RalphVentura 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Daniel! Good work on this video :D Im struggling to decide what lens to get between these two. Right now i've got the 20mm 1.7 to film videos of myself practically stationary and some low light shots. Looking for a lens to use for vlogging/run&gun for my up coming travel videos. What do you recommend?
@danielsin
@danielsin 6 жыл бұрын
You may find the 12-60mm heavy if you do lots of vlogging throughout the day. I personally like the lighter lens (12-35mm) with its constant aperture. And its passable for low light as well. But if you tend to vlog during the day time for the most part then the 12-60mm would be more useful because of the zoom range. It is great when you need it. It also depends on your shooting style as well. If you like to zoom a lot then 12-60mm may be the better choice. If you want better quality in low light then 12-35mm.

Great video man! I've been waiting on a comparison video just like this. I have the 12-35mm Mark II but I want to exchange it for the Leica 12-60mm. Does the 12-60mm produce sharper and crisper images and video? Can you see the "Leica" difference?
@danielsin
@danielsin 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Honestly, the difference is so small. I had to zoom in to like %600 to see the slightest difference. Both of these lenses (even with Mark 2) are super sharp. To answer your question is no. I would not be able to tell the difference. I borrowed my friend's Mark II 12-35 as well. Both of these lenses have the sharpness down on point. I noticed my 25mm 1.7 prime is very soft compared to the 2 lenses we mentioned above.
