Panasonic Lumix L1 in 2023

The Lumix L1 from 2007 was Panasonics first dslr. It was build in cooperation with Leica and Olympus. It's the same camera as the Leica D-Lux3. They shared the sensor and mount with the Olympus E-330. Live view was new at that time, but it works very well. The handling is very good, because of the grip the layout is intuitive with knobs and dials. The retro rangefinder-style look is beautiful!

Really cute - and something i knew nothing about. Glad you've still got it after all these years, which is like me with my E-300 (with macho battery-grip). I bought that new in 2005 and i'll never let it go. CCD, so no Live View, and although i've got good 4/3 glass, the biggest buzz i get from it and its terrible OVF is shooting with vintage Takumars on a summer's day - CCD and Takumars = really lovely colour.

Got a couple, one with the Oly f2.8 zoom and the other with the Lumix f2.8 zoom. Barely use my full frame mirrorless anymore. Also have the Digilux 3 version. Wouldn't ever sell any of them. Don't underestimate this camera because its older with only 7.5MP sensor. It wonderful to use and produces excellent photographs.

I used the 25mm f2.8 Pancake-lens and the 14-54mm.

Both are great cameras, the Leica lens on the LC1 is awesome, but the AF isn't very fast. I think the L1 is the better choice because the option to change lenses, it's faster and IQ is better..

@@yesteryearcameras Appreciate the info! Ya I was leaning more towards the L1, due to the slower functionality of the LC1. But the fixed lens seems really nice and the ccd sensor. Also, is their literally no difference in terms of IQ on the sister/Leica versions?

With the Leica i have no experience, sorry. The lens is really good! But a little warning, their are some reports, that the ccd sensor often get broken...

These older 2000s cameras are going to be worth A LOT moving forward. The cameras of today are so good at what they do that it is sterile. You have to add life to the photos in post. These shots have great color and noise. I wish camera manufacturers would make some of these old style cameras with better auto focus and lens stabilization.

Naturally! Camera manufacturers give the masses what they want over the years....better ISO performance, faster and accurate auto focus, better dynamic range, better ergonomics, better this, better that, and people like you turn around and say stuff like "the cameras of today are so good at what they do that it is sterile....you have to add life to the photos in post." I now have a dilemma - there's one for sale here for US100. I have 4/3... 300, 620 and E5, and lots of glass including 50 f2 macro. The one for sale has the 35 macro (i don't have the 28 pancake). You say that this camera is a big part of your photographic life - like my 300 which i bought in 2006. My questions are: First, if you didn't have all that history binding you to the camera, would you buy it today for more pragmatic reasons? Second, have you ever tried shooting it with any vintage glass? Hope you're well and all is good - all the best from NZ.

First, if it is in very good condition, the price seems ok. I don't know, if 100$ are a lot of money for you. If not and you are very interested, than go for it. It's a nice camera for it's age. Second, I ever use vintage lenses, sorry. I hope, this would help you a little bit. Have fun!👍🏻

@@yesteryearcameras Thanks for that. I like the idea of it and the look of it... which are things that actually don't matter so much. I feel that it's probably as much real use as my E-300, which is to say it's the sort of thing that one uses for the pleasure of using it, rather than any effort to get the best possible interpretation of the subject. And how many cameras does one really need - i like the shooting, not the stuff. So with all that said, i think i'll buy it - it'll look great with my evil 550mm f8.5 Soviet mirror hanging off it.
