Panasonic did a great job on this camera. AF got waaaay better than before. love the internal fan of the S5ii (my sony always overheats after a while) but the AF with the Sigma Lenses is still not optimal for my use case (if it doesnt detect your face, it doesnt recognize the body as it looks like) Waiting for some update on this, but if this gets solved, im switching 100% for sure!

Great video it really helped me compare the autofocus on my S5 with the 28-70. The S5ii seems quite fast and accurate. Only downside of this body is that at 1080 50/60p you only have the old contrast DFD. PDAF only works in certain formats/frame rates. I don't know if it's a sensor or software limitation.

Great to see things are looking snappier as an S5 user upgrading. The problem with this and a lot of other tests is lacking real-world lighting. Would be more curious to see how this performs in lowlight than in a lens store with clean/neat lighting everywhere. How does it operate in a darker area with mixed lighting, areas which are darker than the other?

Set the AF to human detect for even better results, it looks like it's on face and eye detect.

Have you tried any DG HSM Art with native L mount without the adapter, like the 40 mm? I imagine they would perform slightly better without the adapter. It would be great if the S5 II locked onto the eyes at a further distance, where you make the turn around the table. Is there a setting to adjust this?

Some people said detecting me may work better in human detection mode rather than face and eye detection. I have no way to check it unfortunately as I had to give the sample S5 II back to Panasonic. And as for the HSM native lenses, there weren't any available at the Sigma center at that particular time. They are also a rental so I shot what was available on that particular day

@@PunishedSeeker yeah. I was particularly surprised how well the cheap Sigma 18-50/2.8 performed. It might be a good cheap kit for people who want to shoot 50/60 fps in 4K.

It is surprising that the sigma 35 f1.2 DG DN focuses almost the same as the 35 f1.4 old version with the MC-21 adapter. My serious question is, do you think that the sigma 35 DG DN f2 will have similar performance on autofocus to the 35f1.4 DG HSM art?

It is a bit jumpy with some lenses. Maybe Sigma will issue a firmware update to fix this

Bardzo proszę o radę. Ponieważ dość szybko jestem zmuszony kupić nowy "set" do nagrywania pod YT. Zainteresował mnie właśnie Lumix S5II i w moim budżecie (do 15k) idealnie wpasowuje się ta SIGMA 24-70mm 2.8. Mógł byś mi doradzić jak wrażenia z takiego połączenia. Przede wszystkim zależy mi na dobrej stabilizacji, aby nagrywać wszystko z ręki (vlogi itd.). Dodatkowo czy autofocus w Sigmie nie jest zbyt głośny i nie wpłynie to na nagranie audio z jakiegoś mikrofonu kierunkowego na aparacie? Z góry dziękuję za odpowiedź!

Przy okazji może zapytam czy polecał byś inny zestaw zamiast tego o którym pisze? Przede wszystkim zależy mi na tym, żeby aparat był uniwersalny, czyli wszystko miał przyzwoite, ale przede wszystkim stabilizację obrazu z ręki no i autofocus. W kwocie do 14k PLN najlepiej.

@@KoW po pierwsze - AF w Sigmie 24-70/2.8 był niesłyszalny na nagraniach, więc tu nie ma problemu. A co do sprzętu to Panasonic ma bardzo dobrą stabilizację matrycy, jeśli tylko jej chcesz używać to jest fajną opcją. Ale jeśli mówimy o stabilizacji matrycy i cyfrowej, to tu już lepszą opcją jest Sony. Rzuć okiem na live sprzed miesiąca, tam chyba jest wątek porównania S5 II i mojego A7 IV. Bo generalnie jeśli coś innego to właśnie A7 IV albo ewentualnie FX30 jeśli nie fotografujesz

@@KoW R7 odpuść, nie warto. A Sony A7 IV można spokojnie używać ze szkłami APS-C bo i tak tylko w tym trybie nagrywa 4k 50p (podobnie jak S5 II) I wtedy się budżet domyka. Sam mam A7 IV i Tamrona 17-70/2.8 i dobrze mi się tym pracuje

Unfortunately I have no way to check it - the S5 II I used was a test sample and I had to give it back to Panasonic. Try asking at Panasonic user groups on Facebook

But it was very useful the 35mm and mc 21. Is there any possibility to do the same in photography?????? Not a help for me, I'm looking for performance notes on the s5ii with the 100-400, particular AF-C and phase detect for wildlife/bird tracking with and without the 1.4TC. I have heard a couple of comments in the forums that this combination is problematic, but not much confirmation one way or the other. Any comments on this?

The native lenses were mostly quiet. The adapted EF lenses made more noise.

It because sigma lenses work better on standard settings with speed and sensitivity on 0. I have Sigma 24 and 35 1.4 DG DN and sometimes they hunt, but with standard settings they work the same as lumix lenses.
