Its not the bottles fault for the mix being runny. If you add less watsr your mix will be thicker.trust me i know i love thick fluffy pancakes lol.. the recipie just wants you to streatch and have their mix for a long lasting time. Buy if you use less water you'll have thicker pancakes. The bottle is just releasing whats inside so its the recipies fault for runny pancakes..

Mix the batter in a bowl then put a funnel in the pancake pen and fill. I use a wide mouth funnel like the ones for canning jars. It's less messy.

he uses this batter for a lot of recipes and its worked perfectly like in the perfect pancake pan review, and if he doesn't squeeze only a couple of drops would pour out, and since he had no control what so ever on the pen stability on how much batter to pour its not his fault at all,its the pens fault.

For those of you who want this to work, make your batter a little thicker, as well as mix it before pouring it in. A homemade thick mixture works perfectly for these things, as well as using a nice hot stove.

I'd like to understand how this is Jack's fault, as it's being claimed in other comments??? If he followed the directions on the batter box; as you can clearly HEAR him doing, it then becomes a matter of trial by error. Not his fault the pancake mix isn't as thick as some people like it to be.
@racheljones2335
@racheljones2335 9 жыл бұрын
Yes the batter itself is a problem as the pen is designed to work with a thicker batter than this one provides. The other issue that I noticed with his review verses others that I've watched is that he is holding it much too far up off of the surface, which allows the batter to drip more randomly than he would like, just as if you were to hold a fountain pen just barely on the surface, not providing any pressure or true guidance, the ink goes everywhere.

I'm not going to blame you for this,or the product.I find the "pancakes in a box"are always runny,so I make my own batter.Of course it takes more work and more ingredients,but it's well worth it.Maybe with a true home made batter the pen will function the way it's supposed to.

Let the pancake mix rest for about 5 minutes in a warm spot, like on top of the refrigerator, it should thicken. Also, I always put more mix than the box calls for in the mix to water ratio. Best way to get pancake shapes in to make the pancakes large and then use cookie cutters to get the shapes you want.

Good pancake dispensers go for $50 up, but none of them recommend mixing the batter in the dispenser for just the reason you discovered. And anyway, to get good pancakes you should be using eggs, milk, flour (of some kind), and baking powder, not mix.

to everyone saying that it was jacks fault:If the idea of a product like this is supposed to be fun, useful, and a good idea, any random "Jack" should be able to use it easily and effectively. As for the batter, he CLEARLY showed how the device didn't mix the batter what so ever. as far as "PeterMMM" talks about it, what does the device claim to do other than mix, make pancakes and write? everything claimed was shown, and nothing worked. end of story.

@MooseOfReason probably because the nozzle is much smaller than the Pancake Pen from the looks of it. I have a hunch that there's a rubber gasket in the Pancake Pen that controls how well the batter comes out (just like the rubber gasket on a bottle of Powerade drink).

A couple of shortcomings of Jacks' review. First of all, if you insist on using out of the box mix, make sure the consistency is right. Jack's batches consistently were too runny. Secondly, a pancake recipe (from scratch available online) provides a rich recipe that will not run and works much better.

I usually used homemade pancake batter but I mix it in my blender and then let it sit for about 10 minutes before I attempt to make the actual pancakes. This gives it time to develop and become a little stiffer. You should try that too.

@babo1bear The point wasn't how "good" his letters came out.. he was never bummed or upset about that. He only talked about the product, and I believe that it was a fair representation. His main point was that the batter was far too runny, because it wasn't mixing well. And even when he pre-mixed it in the bowl, it still came out runny when he put it in the pancake pen. He's using it like anybody else would for the first time... he's just showing you his opinion.

I think Jack was right. If you cannot mix the ingredients properly inside the pen, you need to use a regular bowl or something for mixing. Then, you could rather just pour directly from the bowl onto the pan and save yourself the cleaning of an extra piece of plastic.

@nickmich1001 Actually, it is possible for the runny batter to be the products fault. Since it says you can make the batter in the actual bottle, it probably wont have the same effect as wisking the batter together in a separate bowl. So no, it doesnt have to be his fault.

Unless the batter is VERY thick, then I don't think the Pancake Pen can 'write'. I bet most people were thinking that the Pancake Pen was capable of giving a constant stream of pancake batter. Problem is that when the stream hits the flat grilling surface, it immediately starts to pool or splatter elsewhere.

@jakatak69 Actually, and this is true. Most companies make a product, like batter mix, for years, even decades. Formulas slightly change, product quality and sources change. And they still have the same directions on those products. By recent tests it was shown that approximately 80% of instructions on such products are actually not correct anymore (they might have been in the past) Temperatures, times, measurements. In most products at least one of those is wrong. Tested by trained chefs.
