The roaming around in a rover and trying to find a path to cross a canyon like that just makes me think that will be exactly what people who eventually explore other planets will face. They're going to get there with limited resources and find all sorts of natural features which are huge obstacles we take for granted because the infrastructure of our planet has been built over hundreds and thousands of years. The rest are more easily surmountable because we have a vast industry and population to easily manufacture materials and bring the manpower to bear on a job like spanning a canyon. This is one of the things I love about Space Engineers.

The best way to mine the stone (resources if they are just near the surface) with the rover is to build the drilling rig in the middle of the rovers body with nice wide base and proportionally long, put the containers on the forward and backward side of the rover it will keep it balanced when it's full, connector on the rear and few gyroscopes wont hurt. The rig itself can be anything you like, from just one drill with the piston, or bunch of pistons rotors and drills, the point is to put the landing gear on a piston and level it down to the ground and lock it before you start to drill, it will keep the rover stable when drilling. So, just go to spot for drilling, park yourself with the landing gear and turn on the rig. After you done, retract the rig, unlock the gear (retract it up with piston if you put it on the piston to lower) and move to another spot. I was playing around with the rovers and drilling for a while, and all those when you use it without attaching to the surface doesn't work properly, some of them works slowly, some makes the waves etc. For those ones which makes waves , they have a problem with the physics and how SE handle the sub grids, it also affect the others but little less, and when you're attached to the ground via landing gear SE considers that grid as static one, so it doesn't make a mess :D I hope I gave you some ideas in the future for the mining rig rovers, it doesn't have to be big, it can be pretty small indeed, just frame, battery, gyro, seat and the rig in the middle (try to aim it to drill the hole smaller than the wheel base or you will stuck in the hole or just build the ramp under the rover and move it :D ) Can't wait to see the next episode, keep up the good work there :D

A little tip with how you had your rover stuck. You can add blocks backwards with an unconstructed battery on the end to counterbalance and get the rover back on its wheels. Unconstructed batteries are still just as heavy as complete batteries, so they're great for this purpose. It's also a good way to take care of a rolled over rover, which can be kinda ruff. 🤣

Problem with trying to Evel Knievel your way across the gorge is you won't have a ramp on the other side to get back. I remember my game I started on Pertam. I built a bridge out of unfinished blocks. Think it took a few hundred steel plates to build it. Mind you, I was using a large grid rover.

22:50 we have to build a bridge... I use refineries when crossing long spans...takes 1 steel plate and is 4x2 :)

Another option, assuming you have the Sparks of the Future DLC, is the 5x5 LCD panel. That is just 1 interior plate for the frame. They take more inventory space to carry, but cost a fraction of the iron

I may just build and weld one, as it sounds quite unsafe to just place a frame down lol. I don't have a jetpack so climbing back up isn't going to be fun. But good ideas nonetheless.

Others have mentioned the center of gravity issue but another problem you are probably running into is that Space Engineers isn't really good at computing physics when multiple grids are involved. This is why flying ships with sub grids keep sinking even with dampeners on. As to creating a sloped mining tunnel using a wheeled vehicle, it is very difficult. The farther into the tunnel you get the move "waves" you will have on the floor. This is where I thought your hinged drills system that sweep back and forth might come in handy as it appeared to make some fairly flat surfaces. The only other way is to build a ramp and keep extending it as you go. Probably easier to set up pistons with drills than it is to use a wheeled vehicle.

Your wheel base is too short with so much weight on the front and a hi center of gravity. Also your front wheels look to be on a different block height which may be causing the pull. Once your back wheels come off the ground your done for. You could extend the back with another cargo container to extend the wheel base. It would be recommended to get the center of gravity as low and between the back sets of wheels. If you turn on you display for center of gravity, it may help you see what’s going wrong. Also a sorter tucked in the front to help keep the drills clear to avoid the destruction you had when trying to stop. Good luck, enjoying the vids.

This is why I always put some thrusters in my rovers, or an arm with pistons and rotors

Its been 2 years since your video, but ill say my 2 cents anyways. In my experience, having long rovers with multiple wheel pairs makes for a relatively easy time drilling. It was a good idea at the end there to widen the drill base to match the width of your rover. Its just not heavy enough in the back. Im sure you even fixed this in the next video

so many mistakes being made... but thats the fun of SE. when u ignored the nickel tho... i about went nuts... U need that to make Batteries... Id of built 4 of em and then a few more wind turbines.... also when ur not using your nose heavy rover u should connect it to your base so its always getting a good charge.... decent start tho and pretty brave of u to play on armageddon mode... makes for some pretty interesting moments... id ofc moved my main base into the side of a large mountain or cliff and placed it deep enuff that the asteroid bombards dont ruin my hard work.

22:50 oh boy that sounds like how he gets stuck... 27:00 Really...atleast just remove the drills 28:38 FINALLY In total, I'd say just make a better drill rover with a much lower and more stable center of mass. Also, interior turrets at the TOP are the best, for most area of effect. And that "Met-" at the end is just so comical

Yeah, gonna disassemble the respawn pod and make my own design. Lol, I didn't even think of removing the drills to get out of the hole. Too focused on trying to power out of it.

You need to stop letting your drills fill with ore. It is making your front end heavy. Figure out the max vehicle weight you can get without the drills filling with ore, then when you hit that number, stop drilling.
@PandemicPlayground3 жыл бұрын
Great tip. I was intentionally filling it because I didn't want to waste the space and have to do more drilling. Rofl in the end it became a longer process then to just not fill the drills. Live and learn haha.
