''... anything yelled from the top of the crag find its way to the ears of the intended recipient, no matter where they are in the great wheel.'' does anyone else find this idea absolutely terrifying? what if some beggar who bothered you seven years ago dies, ends up in pandemonium, goes mad, somehow regains his memory of you through the madness, then sets up camp at the top of the crag and shouts obscenities at you for the rest of your life?

Also among the howling winds that drive people insane are the voices of long dead and forgotten gods. There's an area that resembles a massively vast cavern that contains gargantuan petrified forms both humanoid and alien, their expressions are contorted in pain, despair and suffering... and it's said that's where the voices come from. I'm surprised Jorphdan didn't mention this.

I always love the lore of the Ship of The Dead One Hundred. It's this ship that sails through one of the layers of Carceri (the one with all the frozen water and craggy bergs I think) and on board the ship is relatively empty. It seems to sail itself and is filled with a tonne of monsters, demons and other horrors but most horrifying is in the hull of the ship there is exactly 100 sealed coffins. No one really knows what happens when you open the coffins as every time it happens some terrifying calamity opened up and destroy all the inhabitants aboard. Whenever that happens the ship docks at it's next docking empty and silent. Needless to say those using the ship as transport or a home hold a very dim view of anyone stupid enough to open the coffins. As for the coffins themselves they say that the ship is carrying them to their final resting place but can only do so on the day the great blood wars between devil, demons and angels comes to it's end.

It's a realm that holds anything the gods deem as too dangerous for the material plane, just let them do some epic murderhobo thing that results in the gods tossing them there. Might actually make a fun campaign while breaking them of murderhobo habits.

I can imagine a party going on a quest to pandemonium to find that crag and send a message to someone important that they are unable to find. Also, I imagine it would be pretty funny to have a guy just yelling from the top of a spire: "MEET US AT THIS PLACE AT THIS TIME, PLEASE."

Thanks for this! I've been trying to do some research on Carceri lately because one of my Player's gods is imprisoned there. The god's name is Chaos, a supreme being who lives up to his name and takes on the form of a massive dark dragon. He's the god of change, destruction, death, and freedom. Before his imprisonment, he used to ravage the Material Plane in "cycles," purging it of its weakness and impurities like wildfire. When gods became corrupt, he slew them. After many eons, the gods of law, order, and justice found a way to bind him and imprisoned him in Mount Celestia, hoping the realm would help temper him. When this failed, he was banished to the deepest layers of Carceri. My player wants to release him, so he can once again purge the Material Plane of corruption and reign o. his throne in Limbo

I've long wanted to play an alternate Planescape capaign that has only half the number of outer planes, with the lower planes being Pandemonium, Carceri, Gehenna, and Archeron. These are too often ignored, with all attention going to the Abyss and the Nine Hells (and sometimes Hades).

I've been toying with the idea of "Dungeons" being accessed through "Thin spots between realities"; leading to maybe a Demiplane, or an extra layer of an existing plane, such as Pandemonium. Why is this Dungeon entrance here? -- Chaotic Planes do whatever Chaotic Planes will. Who built this Dungeon? -- The mad dreams & desires of untold peoples. Isn't this just an excuse for a lazy GM to "roll up" a dungeon on the fly w/out having to explain why Monster X is squatting in some room? -- The beatings will continue, until morale improves!

Why no mention of the planes' deific residents? Nerull, Parrafaire and Falazure all live in Carceri because they like it; Nerull in particular enjoys the irony of dwelling in a prison plane. The Greek titans are also stuck in Carceri, Malar was kicked there by Talos, and Vhaeraun's in hiding there from his mother's grip. Apomps, creator of the demodands, is also the place's most famous resident; he was banished there by his fellow baernoloths. As for Pandemonium, the Norse Loki and the Faerunian Auril dwell in Winter's Hall, the headwaters of the Styx. Talos lives in the Towers of Ruin. The Wand of Orcus was hidden there by Kiaransalee when she murdered Orcus.

Ive been looking everywhere but cant find much that describes moving from one layer of carceri to another. Examples: where are the barriers located, what are the barriers, what actually is transisioning from one layer to another? Is it entering a portal that takes you to a smaller planet? Are there tunnels connecting the layers together? Perhaps you could help with these questions.

How does carceri define being stronger than the one that imprisoned you?
@Jorphdan7 жыл бұрын
Good question. I don't particularly have a solid answer other than "that's what I read." However I'd assume if an evil wizard banished you there you'd have to be strong enough to defeat him in order to break that spell that keeps you there.
@arielcar557 жыл бұрын
I think its meaning that there is no way out, you arent imprisoned a certain amount of time, you are there for eternity, unless you get stronger enough to break your chains (Or whatever), defeat those who imprisoned you and find a way out of the plane
