Jane, again another great and fun painting. This brings back memories when my wife and I had the opportunity to visit Stonehenge many years ago (1971). Back then they would allow you to actually walk between the stones. That day it was a very damp and grey day. It was kinda spooky because we were the only ones there. There were no other people (well, those that we could see anyway - oooooooo). I really like your painting. You demonstrated so may great techniques on the sky. the simple highlights on the stones really set it off. Those little bumps on the top of the vertical stones were carved to fit into hollowed holes on the bottom surface of the cross piece stones to lock them in place. Many centuries ago, this was the first full sized, heavy duty, Lego set. Great work, Jane.

Jeez o peet Jane, keep up your passion for educating us on painting and you will be able to afford to go one day and a youtube artist celebrity may allow them to let you walk among the stones, so you could paint them. Excellent tutorial. I've been painting with acrylic for a few years now, but I've never managed to achieve the depth I was looking for in space/skyscapes. I have an abundance of mediums that I'm still learning to use correctly, and this painting of yours is a prime example of how vital a medium can be to achieving a particular look without slaving over your canvas for months on end. Your technique is highly versatile, and will work well for a number of projects I've been considering. Thank you for sharing your work.

tried to find your facebook page but it's not coming up, says page has been removed. I did a painting of the pyramids with a sort of similar effect in the sky and glazed it using first a pink glaze and then an orange glaze over the sky with a yellow ochre glaze over the sand. It has some out beautifully but I can't work out how to upload it to show you the effect. It is all done in oils although the original canvas was first painted in black acrylic, easier than finding a black canvas locally.

Thanks, Scott! Yes, stencil brushes work well. Just make sure you don't scrub the same spot before it's dry, because it really will remove the paint!

As always, Jane, you do such a phenomenal job of teaching. I really could have used someone like you when I was learning! This turned out very well. Reminds me of the Northern Lights painting. This technique is one that everyone will need, it's an extremely useful technique. I use a lot of glazing in some of my work. One of the pieces I have been working on recently is a diptych with, now, over 200 layers of glaze on each piece.

Jane, I love this tutorial!!! While it is nice to have the beautiful silhoette of the Stone Henge in the foreground...I miss seeing the spectacular work you did on the sky formations and colors. Speaking of those: Cloud, Nebula, Auroras...I felt so intensely drawn to them every step of the way as you created them with your brushes. As you explained in detail the ridges and "ribbon" effect of them turning, I saw it just as you did and even sometimes previous to your explanation. Your techniques are wonderful, your teaching style is very understandable, your talent is awesome!!! Thank you for sharing ths with us. Moving on to your personal style; I love the way you accentuate your beautiful eyes. The color in your hair on this video is so beautiful as well.

This was a great tutorial that my friend and I came across. We are regular PWAT attendees (a little over a year now) and have been wanting to branch out on our own a bit because their choices can be limiting and it gets expensive attending 2 classes a month at $35 a pop. I would definitely say this is more intermediate than beginners though, if I wasn't already experienced with some painting techniques I think I would have cried after a while lol, that being said your instruction was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed this. All in all our results did not come out nearly as beautiful as yours did but we were very happy with the finished products in the end. Will definitely be checking out more of your videos in the future!

I know this video is 6 years old but wanted to say thank you. First time painting a nebula/galaxy and while mine didn't turn out as good as yours, mine isn't the focal piece either. I've been working on a 7 layer, laser cut MDF, picture of Goku (anime in case anyone isn't familiar) and wanted a nebula style background that Goku overlaps. There are sections over his shoulders and between his hair that show the background. Got to say, your method just clicked with me and for my piece it turned out wonderfully. Subtle yet the added detail I was looking for. Thank you very much for creating this step by step. Helped me a ton.

Good to see the progression to more complex work. FYI. when purchasing pre-manufactured canvas you will have a line when scrubbing on the edges of the canvas due to the frame being squared on the backside. To eliminate this find a local frame maker that can eliminate this problem by having a sharp edge on the very edges and rounding off. With three quarter round stock this problem is solved when stretching the canvas and gives work to a local framemaker that helps support a local business and keeps the money you spend at a more local level and enriches the local community at large. Beautiful piece:)

BOING!!!!! Awesome boner (figuratively speaking) inducing painting!! So cool and calm also. My eldest son Michael has serious health issues and is disabled. He's a very highly skilled artists with pens, pencils etc, and he's also practicing with his new tattoo gun on oranges, and melons. I tried to get him interested in oil painting, which is my passion, besides music, when he was young but he wasn't interested. I finally convinced him to give it a shot, and I did help him, but very, very minimally, I simply guided the flow and speed of his hand as he began to use his brush strokes, and as soon as he got the feel I let go and he ended up creating an incredible landscape, which took me over a year to reach that level! I am obviously biased, but I do not lie, and I won't exaggerate, I didn't need to because the painting was truly that good and it was his first shot! When he realized it wasn't as difficult as we artists make it out to be, he dropped it! LOL!! He was around 10 years old when that happened. He's 31 now and is finally interested in painting, however he preferred the acrylics, which was absolutely fine by me!! For his first attempt I suggested he go with a black canvas, and so I gave him a Bob Ross giant 473 ml bottle of black gesso, and away he went!! So he started another landscape, this one had a fall setting sun scene which was just magical! I started searching around for acrylic artists using black canvases, and came across this site. We watched it together and were both amazed at the simplicity, and absolutely skilled beauty of the painting! This is a piece he can start off with, and work his way up. So thank you so much for actually posting an entire start to finish black canvas painting, I really, really appreciate it. So many others are posting five minutes of silent fast forward, and you have to pay for the full lesson, which I am absolutely fine with me. People should be paid for giving any lessons. This made your very generous full step by step lesson all the more incredible. So on behalf of my son Michael, and myself Jack - thank you very much! About to sub and like!! Which is ironic because I like subs! So...ya. Jack Canada

LOL, Jack!! Your message made me laugh. Thank you so much for such a wonderful comment. I'm so excited that you were able to get your son into painting! It sounds like art is in his blood. I looooove painting on black canvas, so I'm sure there'll be more :) I hope you and Michael keep making art together ♥♥♥

lol! Hey Jane.. I am so forgetful! What was your number again? OH! BOOM!! I'm going through your catalog of videos and I am just amazed at the different styles and subject matter! I see impressionist, post impressionist, some realism, and surreal you have it all!! How greedy!! lol! There's pieces which remind me of Van Gough, Seurat, Dali, Monet, Matisse, Seurat, Morisot and on and on! Quite amazing! You know, you have pieces which even bring literary masters to mind. Mr. Crow, is awesome!!! And brings up images of Poe! When did you start, are you trained or self taught? Where are you from?? Sorry, if these are too personal, I am just so enthusiastic with your work! You just don't see anyone with this level of skill, or the body of styles which you've created on-line doing free instructional! It's just not done! And so if these questions are too personal, no problem just tell me to eff off!! And I will! LOL! You've got a mega fan here young lady!! Jack - is coming to you from a secret location somewhere in the wiles of the Great White North in his stately manor, a six floor, 6,000 square feet multi level igloo guaranteed to hold up to at least one polar bear attack...almost for sure...ahhh...absolutely a possibility...ok, ok, a very strong maybe...alright, if a polar bear comes round to your stately manor igloo you are screwed! Yes, I have issues! Canada

Oh man, I do too!!! Keep at it, Stacie. Scrubbing looks so easy, but just like anything, a little practice can really be helpful! Just grab a junk canvas and start scrubbing. Try it a thousand different ways with a thousand different brushes. You'll find the technique that works for you
