Enchanted Apple Step by Step Acrylic Painting on Canvas for Beginners

In this video, we're gonna get in the mood for Halloween with a spooky witch, a creepy tree, an enchanted apple, and fog. Aaaaah, I can almost smell the crisp, fall leaves... This is a good lesson for beginners on up!
I’m painting on a 16x20-inch stretched canvas, but you can paint on any type and size of canvas you like.
I used:
• A 1-inch flat brush
• A soft 1-inch brush for scrubbing (I used a filbert, but use any type and size you're ok scrubbing with)
• 1/2-inch angle brush
• Soft, puffy brush for scrubbing fog (about 1/4-inch around)
• A small round, liner, or detail brush
I’m using Liquitex acrylic paint in the following colors:
• Titanium White
• Primary Yellow
• Phthalocyanine Green
• Mars Black
• Cadmium Red Deep Hue
But you can use any colors you like.

I just finished my version of this painting on a 12x12 canvas card. I added a few tombstones at the base of the tree, and tweeked the tree and branches a little. I did this for my daughter and her family, and was the first project I have done for someone else. I'm retired and have only been painting for about 3 or 4 months. I am still learning to shade and accent my paintings, and have learned so much from your videos and find them so informative as well as entertaining. Your style of painting is so easy to learn. I am amazed at your background ttechnique...it's almost like the same effect when using a black gesso and transparent hues with oils effect...the witch really came out good...I keep imagining so many different scenes that can be done just with this paintings techniques...

Fantastic tutorial, thank you so much. This is the one painting I have done that has turned out the best - it's very easy to fix something when you make a mistake. I made the highlights on my rocks and tree much more jagged and it looked great. Didn't want to hide that behind the fog, so I left it out. Once again, thank you for the detailed explanation on the brush strokes - especially her sleeves. I don't think I would have been able to paint it so well without it.

My 4 yr old granddaughter and I love to watch your tutorials together. We recently watched this one together and she said, "Gigi, (that's what she calls me), you can paint this!" So, I did! The Witch Painting is my favorite. I didn't do it exactly like yours because my canvas moves and I couldn't do the scrubbing really well, and I don't draw freehand good either, but I tried it and I'm happy with the way the first time turned out. I love dark moody moon paintings.

Jane, this was pretty cool and mine turned out pretty cool. I didn't really put much "focus" into it - just kind of casually went with the brushstrokes and followed along - which was perfect because I was looking for something lite and fun to do with not much instructions - and this was PERFECT!!! I may do it again if I want to get more into detailing and fine-tuning my brushstrokes, but for now I'm pretty please and THANK YOU!!!! I LOVE your tutorials! Oh, I've got to give this one a shot! I've never been into Halloween type of stuff, but I think I could put this in my Boho Chic bedroom, which is in the works. I find myself doing the scumbling (sp) technique a lot in my paintings. I'm not sure what "style" I'm developing (I've only been painting for about 2 years), but that technique creeps into a lot of my work. Great video and great painting - thanks! That witch is great!
