Hey Amber and Charisse!! Thank you for taking the time to give our video for “De Bockereyder” a spin! We do get that the Dutch title for the song might be a little confusing for non-Dutch people, but since the myth is a Dutch one, we felt it was appropriate. The song tells the tale of The Buckriders (Bokkenrijders in Dutch, or Bockereyders in older Dutch), and the English version of Wikipedia differs from the Dutch one. The Buckriders weren't so much witches, they were more like thieves/robbers in the southern parts of the Netherlands and the northern parts of Belgium who were given a mythical status over time. They were said to people who sold their souls to the devil and rode bucks across the sky. In the lyrics of our song, we try to paint a picture from two sides of the story: one from the perspective of The Buckriders (the male vocalist) and one from the perspective of local villagers (the female vocals). In the end, hundreds of people were convicted for being Buckriders (or for being associated with them) and they were given a death sentence, mostly by hanging (which you can see at the end of our video during the credits).
