Great vid Earl Grey and Charles Burns, what could be better? Finally picked up his last trilogy gonna read them this week. Gonna try grab Love Nest if I see it about. : ) Been buying Mark Bryant books where he compiles war cartoons and posters from ww1 and ww2, Napoleon and empires eras etc, great hardbacks, amazing variety of art and great way to look at history.

Since "Love nest" is printed by that small(?) French publisher Cornelius it's probably out of print in the near future. There's already a vulture on Amazon who charges more than 70 Euros for it, which is (in my opinion) about 7 times the reasonable price for such a little book.

A lot of great comic artists given the opportunity make the jump to animation. I really like Toscographics myself, but I will definitely look into this Dog Boy 😉

Wow, nice Burns collection, Earl. I've not seen Love Nest. Neat. I was unaware of the Charles Burns and Charles Montgomery Burns connection. Mind blown... From where is that animated section at 4:30? I own Facetasm, but not the edition with that cool cover. That's really nice!

"Excellent!" :) that animated part is from "Fear of the dark" (link above, name of the channel I've got it from is Scottotron)

It's freakin' fantastic. Thanks for the link. (Sorry I didn't see it in the description). I was unaware of this Burns creation, yet I've seen that bug creature before in one his books...

I'm currently looking for Love Nest. It's everywhere listed, for example Amazon DE, as a Softcover. Do you know if this is wrong or are there a HC and a Softcover?
@earlgrey8628 жыл бұрын
don't know... I guess we're talking about the offer for 17,60. The publisher "Uitgever onbekend" probably just means "Herausgeber unbekannt"?? It's a bit strange, but I would bet that this is "my" hardcover, because the page of the publisher Cornelius only mentions an hardcover edition: www.cornelius.fr/blog/index.php?post/2016/12/13/Love-nest

I remember Martin Amis writing about meeting J.G. Ballard for the first time and being surprised at how conventional he was. The author who had given us modern nightmares like Crash, High Rise, and The Atrocity Exhibition had a family and lived a normal middle class life. I'm appreciating Burns much more because of your videos. Is Burns popular in Germany?
@earlgrey8628 жыл бұрын
fortunately some artists don't follow the cliche that you have to destroy yourself if you want to create art. I wouldn't say that Burns is popular over here, but he's not completely unknown either... let's say in the relatively small circle of alternative comic readers he's an important reference.

That Panter, Burns changing faces picture book highlights to me how Burns has a style that is both so childlike, at first glance, and so disturbing with repeated viewings. (disturbing in a good way)
