LOGLINE
Following the death of a friend, a trio embarks on separate, yet interconnected paths to process their grief, traversing parallel realms to confront eerie and off-kilter embodiments of their deepest emotions.
DIRECTORS’ NOTE
Grief is a weird beast. Complex and beautiful, it’s a universally experienced phenomenon, ripe for movement expression.
The vision for this film was fueled by the grief I (Tracey) felt when my grandmother, Bonnie, passed away at 100 years old in late 2022. Before her passing, I, as many of us, was no stranger to losing loved ones, but her death sparked novel and intense feelings that rippled across those who knew her.
With this film, we aim to help others better understand and work through their grief, while captivating audiences and showcasing fresh ways of how dance narratives can be cinematically presented.
BACKGROUND
While my grandmother lived a long life, she wanted to live even longer to achieve more of her goals. At the height of mourning her death, I grappled with intense and unsettling thoughts, one being a desire to trade places with the deceased, to grant her the time she desired on Earth.
This became the impetus for the film. What if we could trade places with the deceased? What could those interactions be? What would it look like to live out your most extreme emotions? If we met our grief face-to-face, how would it manifest?
SAN FRANCISCO PREMIERE
PANELS premiered to a sold out audience at the historic Great Star Theater in San Francisco on February 9, 2024. We are excited to now have it online, and hope you enjoy.
