Hi JJ, When I was editing the video, listening in my headphones, the mower and blower sounds were getting closer and louder and I was beginning to almost shout over them. 😬 So that’s why I took the sound out of the second part and switched to music - no need to listen to me shouting! 🤣😂 And yes, I’m fortunate to live in a great neighborhood like you mentioned! 👍

I am inspired to buy more hydrangeas...thanks to you.😂 Hoping for some end of season sales. 😂 Do you prefer the Little Lime Punch over the original Little Lime?
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity Жыл бұрын
Hi Lene! I’m always happy to be a plant enabler! 😀 If you had asked me last year about which I preferred, I would have said Little Lime. Last year, the Lime Punch didn’t perform as well as I wanted it to. However, this year - as you may have seen in my recent Little Lime Punch video - I had much better success and the colors are still getting better! In terms of height and width and growing conditions, all are the same for both varieties. If choosing just one, and you want more vibrant color change - and you’re in zone 7 or lower - I’d choose Lime Punch. (In higher zones or hotter areas, the flowers can skip the pink phase and go to brown.) Then again, Little Lime develops beautifully as Summer turns into Fall, but the coloring is more subtle yet equally beautiful. You’ll see the palest of pinks becoming more rose-pink as the Fall continues, especially with cool night temperatures. I probably didn’t help, did I? 🤣🩷

2 years ago I bought several hydrangeas, was told to cut all the blooms off so it can put the effort into growing roots so I did and haven't seen but one bloom on any of them but 2 turned out getting cane boars and I had to cut back 50-60% off of the plants. In my opinion cutting the blooms off opened my beautiful plants up to being infested with the cane boars so in my opinion I say don't cut the flowers off. The plant will grow roots regardless but both my pinky winky and my zinfin doll may not make it back. When you buy hydrangeas look at the ends of the stems if they are hollow that plant probably has cane boars. Don't buy it.

Can the quart size hydrangea survive winter? Mine looks so small i wonder if it ll make it.
@GardenSanity

It should, as long as it’s well mulched for the Winter season to keep the roots from freezing. What zone are you in? And when did you plant yours?

@GardenSanity I planted it in a bigger pot 2 weeks ago. A little lime punch. Thanks
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity Жыл бұрын
@@vgutierrez1873 Yes, it should survive in the pot over the Winter. What you want to do is move the pot as close to your foundation and out of the wind as possible. Having it next to the foundation will keep the pot a bit warmer than out in the middle of a garden. And of course the wind can dry out a plant quickly. We had enough rain last Winter that I didn't need to water my potted Little Quick Fire at all, but if rain/snow is lacking, giving it a little drink when above freezing is ok. Make sure to put a good amount of mulch around the plant for the Fall/Winter to help keep moisture in and protect the crown and roots. You could also move it into an unheated garage or cool basement as possibilities. But these hydrangeas go dormant in the Winter, so keeping them outdoors is fine in a more protected area.

There’s a NY state website for lanternflies: www.dec.ny.gov/animals/113303.html where you can report where you see them. NJ used to do the same thing. Last month we sprayed with Ortho BugClear, as it has 2 chemicals that kill lanternflies. Yes, I hate using chemicals but I will hate losing my trees and gardens to lanternflies even more. The key is to get as many as possible before they climb too high and lay eggs. Not fun.

Beautiful garden. Ur hydrangeas look very nice ( except one , sorry about that ) my little limes and primes are all flopping on the ground 😢 due to the rain we had in NJ. Do I need to prune them harder next spring . Thanks for ur videos. ❤ ur garden.
@GardenSanity
@GardenSanity Жыл бұрын
Thanks Linh! ☺️ Yes, this rain we’ve been having in NJ has been making my Little Limes flop too, as you saw in the video. ☹️ The stronger the stems, the less flopping. And stronger stems come from less pruning back not more. So as the base stems get stronger each year, you should have less flopping. My floppy stems are the ones that grew as new ones this year, out from where I made my pruning cuts back in Spring. Hopefully we will dry out and the flowers will bounce back up. 🤞 You could also cut some flowers off to bring inside and enjoy…and the stems will bounce back. It’s the weight on the flowers from all that rain they are holding which weighs the stems down. 🌸
