To be honest, this battle didn't serve any purpose for Abdali, as he had to restore the status quo at Delhi Darbar with Imad Ul Mulk and Najib Khan getting back their posts. In fact, in next 15-20 years, Sikhs wiped out half of the Durrani Empire. While Shuja Ud Daullah's role was questionable in the whole conflict, he redeemed himself somehowby preventing the dead Maratha Sardars' bodies from utter humiliation and mutilation and giving them proper burial as per Hindu rites. Perhaps if the Naga Sanyasi regiment in his ranks would have convinced him to switch to the Maratha ranks, Abdali would have had a rethink about going into a military conflict. While the relations between India and Afghanistan improved immensely since 1940s, yet there is no justification for the brutality post war. The grace in victory lies how well you treat those defeated and clearly Afghans didn't learn this truth. I know it may sound crazy, at least our previous governments should have forced for an apology from the Afghan establishments. Marathas paid the ultimate price, while defending their motherland against the invaders, yet their veergatis didn't go in vain. Don't know whether any other empire would have recovered from this disaster, but the Maratha resurrection post 1761 proved their nerves of steel. Perhaps if Madhavrao Peshwa would have been alive till 45-50 years, things would have been different.

Thanks for such an excellent series. No denying that Marathas fought bravely at Panipat and lost a battle which they were winning till Vishwasrao gets hit. Also, it can be stated that, had the Marathas not fought the Battle of Panipat, today Delhi would have been the capital of Afghanistan and not India.🙏🚩🇮🇳

The series brings tears of pride. I broke down on reading the letter that said “दो मोती गलत, दस बीस अश्रफ़ात फरकात, खुर्दा रुपया कू गणत नाही”. Exceptionally crafted, engaging commentary, accurate sources and visually appealing. Best series made on Panipat so far. I wish luck for the channel to reach the widest audience. I read so many historical war stories over period , but panipat war was very close to my heart, so many times I had dream that I was died in battle. I was among last few soldier surrounding sadashiv bhau , i was encouraging soldiers to fight and died while fighting with pride before sadashiv bhau. May it's true or not god knows. But this dream will follow me for my life that's true. Har har mahadev ...I was foot soldier and killed important person a young man son of afgan sardar and afgan sardar killed me in retaliation with his Spears. Thats the end of my dream.

Just discovered this and realised what a gem of Channel this is! There is dearth of good channels which make such brilliant historical videos on India. There are detailed videos regarding conquests of that Barbarian Alex but there still no good narrative account of the campaigns of our Great Shivaji mahraj or Baji Rao. I hope that this channel will undertake such tasks so that India's glorious history can be brought to the common public's notice.

I generally don't prefer destroying someone's tomb, but what the Scindia army did to Najib's remains were completely justified, for the brutalities meted out to Jankoji and Dattaji. Records say that the destruction of Rohillabad was so severe that these bastards didn't recover from it, and East India Company took care of these hooligans in subsequent Anglo-Rohilla wars.

Historians and readers usually judge this war by merely its outcome that Marathas were heavily defeated .But arguably it was the most fierce pitched battle fought on Indian soil ,specially when the hajurat and pindaries charged the centre of Afgan army under Bhau nd vishwas rao. Ultimately It was the great military skill and command of Afdali which sealed the fate of Marathas.

Yes even in adverse conditions we didn't bow down. sadashivrao bhau choosen death over surrender in last moment. Look at this afghans army now, they've flee from battlefield against taliban. Common people of afghanistan had been furious over afghan army retreat.

THE REAL AFTERMATH- After 10 years Marathas took revenge of panipat.. In 1771 Maratha army under Mahadji Shinde raided Delhi and slaughtered countless afghans and mughals. Real guts is about fighting in the battlefield, Abdali was sitting behind like a coward..if he really had the guts then he should have taken part in the battlefield himself like Sadashiv Rao Bhau leading from the front and fighting all day. That is called real raw daring....If Abdali would have taken part himself, guaranteed Marathas won't have let him live half a day

One point you forget to tell is that mahadji scindia after defeating and crushing rohilla Pashtuns he also attack lahore in 1783 at the invitation of sikhs and he fought the Battle with afghans and also defeated Timur shah Durrani and swiftly routing afghan army from lahore he took somnath temple silver gates (which were looted during mahmud ghaznavi attacks on somnath ) & planned to put in back on somnath temple but the priest refused it so he installed it in ujjain mahakaleswar temple.

not really..they managed to save around 4000 not 22000..and 22000 slaves nnever even reached afganistan as many died in the way .. sikhs attacked and looted buggies of afgans and in this process many slaves got chance to run or get saved away by sikhs ..but no such battle happened where any afgans faces sikhs during their return ..
