To understand the casting, we need to learn about the characters from the history. Bajirao-1st played by Ranveer and Sadashivrao Bhau played by Arjun are both different characters. Even if Ranveer is to play Sadashivrao Bhau he would not play it same as Bajirao. As much as I read, Sadashivrao Bhau was quite calm, patient and man of planning. His style was completely different than that of Bajirao. Ashutosh Gowariker must have done his homework right, so we should trust the talented director.

Everything you said was correct but sadashiv was not that patient I mean he was more patient than bajirao but it was becuase of him panipat battle became inevitable becuase Abdali was in India trying to get allies for the war “if it happened it was not decided yet” and abdali also wanted to have a peace treaty but sadhasiv rao immediately decided to go and capture Delhi which enraged abdali making the war inevitable and also bhau was so stubborn he took kunjpura immediately which furthermore enraged abdali. I’m sorry if this is wrong

@@tosushil yepp I read that there was also a jaatt kingdom and sikhs nearby. But they didn't interfered for their personal gains. Contrary to that, Abdali was backed by all muslim rulers of Bharat that time on the name of Islam. Awadh+Bengal region, economically most prosperous that time, led by nawabs blocked the supply lines from back. It stopped the main army of Marathas to reach the front line of defence. Despite heavy casualty of soldiers and pilgrims, Marathas was able to do such a damage that Abdali had to sign a pact with Marathas and he never came back to India after that. After 20 years whole history changed with British gaining powers over weak Indian Kingdoms.
