My band is ready to record new music, and this will be the first time ive tackled recording an entire band. Your videos have been incredibly helpful in helping me put together a work flow, and helping simplify tasks that seemed impossible until recently. Much appreciate all of your shared wisdom!!!

Kenny, just let me say your tutorials have been so incredibly helpful. I’ve followed the techniques in previously a couple of years back and now, once again, I’ve recorded and now am starting to mix original tracks for a band I’m in and suddenly you’ve posted several new videos on the exact topics helpful to me. So again, thank you!

Great tutorial, thanks Kenny! Just wonder if you copy the same track for the double on acoustic guitars for panning or is it better to record a new take for the double?

Always better to record a new take.

If you copy paste a secondary track and pan them left/right, it will just create a louder mono sound unfortunately. You can time shift the copy track by miliseconds until the waves in both tracks are distant enough in peaks and valleys to get a stereo sound with panning, but it tends to be hit or miss doing it that way. Recording a second take will always sound better and add in more dynamic flavor. If you are in a pinch where you have one track to work with on a clients song, the copy/paste/timeshift method can work, but if you have the option to get a second take, always try to aim for that. :)

@@calebhohneke8482yes, the same exact signal panned hard to either side will just be mono

You "can" time delay them slightly, but run the risk of having phase issues. Always better to double track. 😊

Wait a minute... At 2:41 mins, the acoustic guitar track was "doubled" but the "NEW" track looks and sounds very different from the first one... ...so weird. The video editor super-power...

Hi Kenny I find all your videos so helpful. you have taught me loads and saved me £1000's. Just one question on this one is the doubled acoustic guitar track a totally separate recording from the first one as it looks totally different when you bring it in?

Yes. It's a completely new recording. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Kenny... Another great tutorial... I wanted to ask about the acoustic tracks (LR). The waveform on the right looks different from the left... Is this a doubled performance....Thanx for all you do....

It's very nice when heard in stereo, but when heard in mono, the volume of the side channels will be reduced. This is my big problem. How do we deal with this? Thanks. I wish you health and prosperity to enjoy life, and continue to give us your knowledge. 😀
@REAPERMania Жыл бұрын
You deal with it by listening to both ways and deciding how important mono is going to be for your needs. It's the same way when dealing with different speakers. It's never going to sound the same everywhere.

Awesome tutorial as always Master Gioia! I have learned a ton from your tutorials, and whenever I convince fellow audio engineers to give Reaper a chance (I'm practically an unofficial salesman for Reaper lol), I always recommend your channel to them as well. Quick question, can I get the name of the tune used in this tutorial by chance? It's a total vibe.

I was a logic user for 20 years.I switched to Reaper and have invested a lot of time in it but now I'm very frustrated with it and may go back to logic since no one seems to know the answer to my Reaper problem. I hope you can help. I have no panning at all. Rotating the pan knob in Stereo pan mode only reduces the volume until it's back in center again. The pan behaves this way wether its midi our audio. I hope you can solve this. Thanks. I am on a Mac studio.

It would be good to add a new stereo separation control knob. It will go from 100% mono to 100% stereo. Will also be helpful to check mono compatibility of a track. Some other Daws have it. Quite useful.
@TheNewFlesh Жыл бұрын
I believe there is one. Right-click one of your pan knobs and a little window should pop up. There's a few options for panning behaviour, one of them should be what you're after
@mantrasoul10 ай бұрын
so i am wondering: if you make an exact copy of a track (without any processing or delaying/phasing techniques applied) and pan to opposite sides , wouldn't that just sum to sound in the middle again and not yield any stereo effect at all? Then i was looking at the waveforms of the copied tracks and noticed they look different?
@oddgeezerfineart10 ай бұрын
Quick question. I use Reasampleomatic 5000 in reaper for my drums and other samples. I notice when i pull up samples and pan them they dont really truly pan. They only seem to get quieter. Ive run through so much troubleshooting. My I/o is correct and there are no plug ins that create a mono environment. Another thing is, is that any mic'ed acoustic signal will truly pan (vocal/ac.guitar...etc.). Is it a trouble with my samples? It seems like this should be easy, take the signal and send it to one side. Anyway, any insight would be appreciated 👍
