Appreciate the long-term review and detailed thoughts. I hope the next generation Panobridge exceeds your expectations for design improvements, especially related to monocular positioning. I have indeed been using the profits from this first generation product to help deliver new products that better match our customer’s feedback. By the way, for anyone concerned about durability, we are keeping a log of damaged units right on our website’s FAQ page, and so far only one has been reported: a guy face planted onto concrete and snapped an arm. We’ve had zero reports of damaged AX14-PROs, which use the same material. The Arkema material and overengineered design seems to be doing a good job so far. I look forward to sending you the next generation Panobridge soon. -Neal, owner

yep, I have no concerns about 3D printed durability. I did a lot of research with plastics (and as a result 3D printing) for my degree. People underestimate polymers and composite polymers by easily a order of mag. I'm eagerly await the next gen. Like I said in the video. I generally don't get impressed by gear. But this vastly exceeded my expectations especially for what is functionally a gen 1.5

FOV is one thing I feel like my poor ness has helped me out on by only being able to get a monocular PVS14 and having that naked eye, even with it in the dark I feel like I can use that eye to get a peripheral view/layout of the general lay of the land. Couple that with IR and white light on your rifle and it covers most scenarios. I would still like to get duals on me day but for right now being a novice with NV I’m very happy with what I have.

So I got a panobridge fairly soon after they came out and happened to find two matched 14's for a great price a piece with warranty. I love the set up and it allows me to split the devices when I want to look at the stars with my son's or shoot with my friends. For most though I would never say that the added field of view is worth the weight of two devices and the hassle of working two devices compared to a single duel set up but for a bridge the pano can't be beat in my mind. Lite, articulating, and panning? It could only be better as a bridge if it was powered, then it would literally do it all lol

About the plastic-on-plastic wearing out, some plastics are really tough. Plus I guess they could add a small redesign to include metal parts in the interface, but that will be a pain in the ass. I did it for fun with my 3d printer, pause the print to add a nut and a magnet into holes that I left for them, then continue printing and they get buried in plastic. But I guess doing it in an asembly line is another game completely
@50shadesofcerakote2 жыл бұрын
On the redesign of the ax-14 pro that’s what they ended up doing. There’s a metal washer and the articulation points were redesigned some. The gen1 was good, just needed alittle loctite. Gen2 is so much better. Just witness mark all the things, always, and you’ll be golden.

Need to come out with thumbscrews, my biggest issue is as the monoculars swivel they inevitably loosen a very inconvenient flathead screw that also strips out easily. The fixed 55 degree bar really make the experience optimal, adjustable fov is overrated and just makes the experience less solid and more fiddly, 55 FOV is ideal.

The polymer itself is probably really expensive, from the looks of it easily $150 a kilo, and with the way those are printed, the machine is about the same price as a used cnc mill, and they aren't cheap to run since most use proprietary software and require a lot of finishing work as well. The polymer is a carbon fiber filled nylon, so really durable. While i don't know all to terrible much about night vision, i know a bit about 3d printing, and the only thing the could have done better was to add some brass inserts at the hinges, and any issues with moving and wear on the plastic would have been solved.

You mean just with a regular bridge? Why would you use a pano for that?
@noisefighters2 жыл бұрын
Fusion setups on Panobridge is a really interesting experience. I find it better than on a non-panning bridge. You can pan the thermal out and not have it directly overlay the entire view, which allows your brain to see a complete i2 NV view in one eye and a slightly separate thermal view in one eye, so any false negatives provided by the thermal are not inaccurately overlaid atop the i2 NV image, which is normally quite distracting or possibly dangerous (if in a dynamic environment). The panning opens up possibilities, let’s say, that normally aren’t there for people to experiment with.

I'm with you that this seems to be a herald of the future of dual tube NVGs but not the end-state. Because it seems to occupy a weird sort of middle-ground above dual-tube in function but short of quad-tube in both function and price, yet has weight disadvantages compared to purpose-built dual-tube and can be retrofitted to current users of single-tube PVS-14s, I'm not sure who the institutional buyer for the Panobridge is, and institutional buyers still seem by far the biggest swinging dicks in the NVG industry that drive where the industry goes. It seems good for experienced private users who might get into night vision in a piecewise way, getting one PVS-14, then the Panobridge, then another PVS-14. That piecewise cost advantage could go away if you weren't using an IR laser for some reason and have to get into one because of that blind-spot but that's probably a practically nonexistent edge case. I just hope that private market is healthy enough for this sort of form factor to succeed and get development because that hinge design looks like a point of failure waiting to happen to me.
@noisefighters2 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the feedback. I can say there is significant institutional buy in already, which honestly is still shocking to me, considering this is our first foray into the NV market. Local, state, and federal LE have purchased significant numbers of bridges. One of primary drivers of this phenomenon is our partnership with a company called Nightline, out of Tennessee, who build complete NV systems and have been in the industry for 40+ years only selling to government buyers. They have a training facility with a shoot house where they let teams show up and run drills with all of the current binos / quads. I have personally visited and met some of the high speed guys who went in the shoot house, tested everything out, and then advised their departments to purchase our Panobridge. Of course, a huge benefit is that so many of these teams have PVS-14s in inventory and wish that they could have dedicated dual tube setups for everyone, but they don’t have the funds. Once they realize they can get a dual tube setup that also provides a wider field of view, they’re sold. The fact that the complete setup weighs 20-25 oz (depending on glass and battery housing) is not a problem when one compares it to the binocular most likely to be available to these same teams: the AN/PVS-15, which weighs 23 oz.
