Dr. Seyed Mohammad Marandi discusses with Alexis Lekakis and Pantelis Savvidis President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian's policy positions. Additionally, he reflects on Iran's relations with the USA, Turkey, Greece, and Cyprus.
Dr Marandi is a Professor of English Literature and Orientalism at the
University of Tehran.
He is a veteran of the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980’s. He survived 2 chemical weapons attacks.
He is a former media advisor to the Iranian nuclear negotiating
team in Vienna (2021-2022).
He accompanied former Foreign Minister Javad Zarif’s team during the nuclear negotiations from 2013 to 2015.
He has appeared as a political commentator and analyst on
international news networks such as Channel 4, Sky News, PBS,
ABC, CGTN, CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, and RT.
He is the son of Dr. Alireza Marandi, the head of the personal
medical team of the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran
Ayatollah Khamenei, a former two-term Minister of Health
(1984-1989, 1993-1997) and member of the Iranian parliament
(2008-2016).

What Prof. Marandi failed to mention is the fact that religious component is vital for the Iranian state to exist. The regime of Ayatollah was exported from France after the western leaders decided to change the power dynamics in Iran. Today, ethnic Iranians aka Persians constitute only 50% of population. If the regime toppled then the Azeri Turks will default to their ethnic roots and look towards Azerbaijan and Turkey as they represent a big chunk of Iran. The new President, Pereshkian, himself is an Azeri Turk and fluently speaks Turkish just like the ayatollah. His mother is Kurdish though. So, he is not ethnically Iranian. Could you even imagine an Albanian President and PM in Greece?
