This is one of those bands that doesn’t have to sound heavy, they just are heavy! They invented groove metal!

While I'd tend to agree and am a huge fan of the genre/sound, I've come to realize the Godfathers of Metal. Black Sabbath, invented Groove Metal, if only by accident. "Into the Void" is 💯 Groove Metal.
@StandOnBusiness27Ай бұрын
Pantera definitely did not invent groove metal, but they did popularized it as well as master it like no other band. Bands like Exhorder, The Bad Brains, and Prong were the true pioneers of the genre.

Nah, Phil's not cocky...he's a bad ass, he doesn't HAVE to be cocky 😂 So thrilled to see how into it you were, I'm here for more! Pantera was the roughest pit I ever was accidentally in lol, and I survived the Clash Of The Titans tour! (Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax in one night). It was the first time I ever saw Pantera, my 16 year old butt was NOT ready for it! But some nice gentleman grabbed me up out of there, made sure I was ok, then he jumped right back in. Who said metalheads aren't nice? Next time I saw them a few months later, I got seats in the balcony 😂

If Dimebag wasn’t murdered Pantera most likely would’ve been the biggest metal band ever. They already were huge up there with Metallica but they had at least 3 more banger albums in them when Dimebag was killed. Imagine a world with 3 more albums from Pantera.
@mastod0n17 ай бұрын
You are aware Pantera broke up a couple years before Dimebag was killed? There's a good chance they would have never gotten back together because of the beef between Phil and the Abbott brothers.

Floor Jansen to Hannes Van Dahl: ”Honey, Nikki is reacting to our song” 😁 …for those who doesn’t know, Floor from Nightwish and Hannes from Sabaton found each other because Hannes was listening Pantera in his dressing room, and Floor walked in and asked ”Is this Pantera?” Hannes invited her to listen it with him, but Floor said: ”If we are going to listen Pantera, we need to drink whiskey and have some cigars as well” … and this is How their lovestory and relationship started. All because of they both liked Pantera ❤️🔥

Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven are "no skip albums." 2 skippablle tracks each once you've listened multiple times. Only the 1st 4-5 Metallica albums, Master of Reality and Paranoid from Sabbath, the Appetite for Destruction album, and Lamb of God: Ashes of the Wake have pulled that off in my opinion. All are packed with killer riffs and poetic lyrics.

Ah, Pantera. Balm for the soul. Phil's not cocky, really. He knows he's awesome. I'd say he's confident and secure in his abilities. At the same time, though, he doesn't seem pretentious at all. He talks to people like they're friends he hasn't met yet. He has a really great sense of humor, and unfortunately that doesn't get the chance to come out much in interviews anymore, since people only want to talk about Dime's death and the end of Pantera, and his drug use and his supposed racism. I would imagine that sucks the fun out of interviews if that's all you talk about for 20 years. He does have a rather lengthy history with trauma, injury, pain and substance abuse, so there are a few years there where he was maybe less of a jovial, people loving, approachable dude, but he's on the other side of that now. Clean, mostly sober, and with a fused spine these days. I hope that version of Phil gets to make an appearance again some day. Saw him in September and it was amazing. I could tell it meant a great deal to him to be able to sing Pantera songs again. He had tears in his eyes. Hope this tour brings him some healing and happiness.

Yes, Phil Anselmo does come across as cocky... arrogant... unapologetic...But he also expresses humility, regret, gratitude and admits his mistakes... After the death of Dimebag in 2004, he had to take a long, hard look at himself and his addictions and he never stopped trying to reach out to Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul until his death in 2018... He mended fences w/ Rita Haney (Dimebag's girlfriend) and others in the Abbott family camp of Pantera. I remember an interview w/ Randy Blythe, vocalist of Lamb of God... and he admitted that life on the road is tough on him and he can't always be 'that character' people expect him to be onstage... Blythe said that he'd rather be home sometimes than on a tour bus or backstage... he can't always be polite and people-friendly; often admits he freaks people out. He has had to work on his relationships w/ his bandmates in Lamb of God, where fistfights have broken out in the past... tensions have resulted in very bad working situations... But Blythe said that when he gets on that stage w/ Lamb of God, he will give 100% to deliver the best metal show that he can for the fans... I think Phil Anselmo had the same problems that afflict most bands... Pantera was no different. The brothers (Dimebag & Vinnie) were all about drinking, partying and raising hell on the road... They wanted to have a good time w/ alcohol & food, friends and fans... And that wasn't necessarily what Phil (or bassist Rex Brown) was into. And that created the chasm for what ultimately split Pantera up and produced the bad blood between the band members.

If you like to learn more about Phil this is a great talk he gives at a University, it shows his vulnerable side a bit. You are right he is cockey but I think it comes from his past. If you want there is a 7 part version of the lecture maybe make it reactionable, but it otherwise open my eyes to the guy saw him more human and not so arrogant. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5ykmal9nKyHnZo
