They had been announcing a new years party at savvy's featuring the cowboys from hell with a special guest on z rock . We all knew enough about what was going to happen that I brought my camcorder along to the party. And filmed this footage. I've never seen most of these comments and I'm blown away by the love these videos have received. Not surprised just never stopped to read the comments before. Actually I did back when these only had maybe a hundred views or some shit. But I just looked them up to post on a couple of my group pages and saw the amount of views and started reading comments.

It's weird I love halford as a singer but have a hard time getting into king diamonds shit
@Headbanger9000
@Headbanger9000 5 жыл бұрын
Understandable, I see this a lot. First off, King Diamond is more theatrical sounding with his singing voice. He is more akin to a Broadway style musical singer or opera. So to the "normal" metal head who isn't used to this type of theatrical singing it is either going to sound "weird" or "out of place". A couple of other things to note, which may be confusing to someone who doesn't have formal vocal training, King Diamond uses the falsetto technique to reach his high notes unlike Rob Halford who sings his high notes in full voice. When using falsetto, the larynx is relaxed while the vocal chords tighten the higher in pitch you go. Eventually the vocal chords reach a point where you are singing beyond your actual vocal range and the vocal folds instead of being closed, actually are loose and let's air spill out giving the high note an "airy" sound. That is falsetto, think like the BeeGees or many R&b style singers. Another note to make is that the tonal quality is going to be somewhat different. To reinforce a falsetto note to make it sound powerful is to sing in your head which ends up with a more nasal quality to it. King Diamond and Rob Hanford are apples and oranges. Both amazing singers on a technical level who use different techniques to get to the high range. Also one more thing, King Diamond sings in his very high falsetto/counter tenor range for the majority of the songs where as Rob Hanford typically doesn't. King Diamond songs are in Painkiller range CONSTANTLY. If Rob Halford sang in that range constantly he probably would get some mixed reviews as well but since he only sings a few songs in his highest range he typically gets a pass. King Diamond on the other hand is an acquired taste for someone who loves theatrics, someone who loves high, falsetto singing and someone who can deal with it on an almost constant basis and not just here and there. King Diamond is incredible in the vocal dept and actually has more range than Halford
