R.I.P. Dimebag Darrell
Artist: Pantera
Track: The Sleep
Album: Cowboys From Hell
Lyrics:
Understanding what has
Happened before us
We are confined to a
Darkened hidden tomb
The conquering of our world
As we knew it
Rise above this pit
Of sorrow and pain
Among the few
We are the avant leaders
We've got to live
Through this trouble and decay
This question haunts my mind
Will we survive this night?
We're harboring the meek
Will we survive the sleep?
Unsure and scared
We are planning our reprise
Revolves around this world
We don't know anymore
The odds against us
Yet we're stronger and prevailing
Learn from mistakes
Counting souls for sale
This question haunts my mind
Will we survive this night?
We're harboring the meek
Will we survive the sleep?

Dude not even the solo. Which kicks ass btw, but the song structure is so different for any worthy metal band at the time. Love the sludgey verse...sick. And when you think it's over its not. Dime keeps you guessing. Genious.

I wonder what it was like for the band actually writing this song. It's amazing something so beautiful and true came from them; it shows a deeper part of who they are/were as people. Every song they wrote meant something. Doesn't matter if it was about heroin addiction, media, or being a fucking cowboy... these guys are the best. Probably one of the greatest Pantera songs ever written here, too... the way the guitar comes in and out... insane, wow. Dimebag will always be the man, no matter what.

100% the best metal song ever, it is my opinion and you cant change it, even if you think i am wrong you are, by default, wrong. the structure and dynamic of this song is unreal, and as for the solo, well it is the best solo ever written,no other guitarist could Wright that, no one will ever Wright anything as good, ever, period. hold on to this guys and girls, there will never be a band like this, stay true.
