This reminds me of something I did before retiring ... I would put all shelf-stable ingredients including spices for week night dinners in baskets marked with labels Dinner #1, 2, 3 etc. and lined them up on the pantry shelves. I would just have to grab the basket, head to the fridge to grab the protein and head to the prep area/stove and start cooking. It's amazing how much time it saved after working all day! I just started doing this. I look at my recipe and put any dry or canned ingredients in a brown paper bag with the meal name on the outside. Then I measure out the spices into baggies - any spices that go in the recipe at the same time go in the same baggie. Any noodles or rice get measured out into baggies as well. It's amazing how much time (and energy) pre-measuring items and gathering them up can save. I'll frequently make two of the same meal kit at the same time, since the ingredients are already out. We eat much better when I have some of these on hand for low energy days.

Another good one is a cake mix and a can of soda. You don't need any egg, oil or water for the mix. You literally just mix the can of soda into the mix and bake. And the cool thing is, you can mix all sorts of flavors of sodas and cake to create a new flavor.
@bronzefox90352 жыл бұрын
I tried that with our daughter a few years ago. That cake was very sweet and had a weird texture. It was ok for a quick cake but you would really need a cake craving to eat it. We tried it a few times with different cake mies and sodas. It was still a bit rough to consume. Great concept though

Sauce (either bought or home canned), home canned Italian sausage or ground beef (optional), small can of mushrooms (optional), spaghetti. It has a packet of pizza dough, bottle of water, jar of pizza sauce, small can of mushrooms, jar of home canned Italian sausage/ground beef, shelf stable pepperoni, jar of cheese dip. If I had any dehydrated onions, bell peppers and tomatoes, I would add those. I'm working on a chicken noodle soup kit.

What I love most about this post, (aside from your calming, endearing vibe), is that when the power goes out, or sudden weather events, etc. make a family need to scramble out of the house for safety, you can just grab that tote, throw it in the trunk and go (plus a suitcase and toiletries). It would take significant time to think of, and pull out of the pantry, all the various ingredients for several meals during a chaotic, stressful rush to get out, and with no lights to flip on to see what you're doing..

We are well stocked, however, I am noticing that I don't have what I need for all our favorite meals. I make "meal kits" with leftovers in the freezer. I just did that last night. I save everything so one cooked hamburger and a little bit of green beans is now in a ziplock marked as "lunch" and what's in it. "Lunch" means one person, dinner is two or three. It's only my husband and I so that works for us. I love the meals you came up with! Thank you.

1). Chicken and dumpling casserole: canned chicken, cream of chicken soup, cream of celery soup, top with biscuit topping and bake. 2). Chicken noodle soup: bring to a boil as much chicken broth as you need using chicken bouillon, boil egg noodles, add canned chicken, and whatever veggies you want, or just a can or 2 of sliced carrots. And of course season to your taste, you could also add a can of cream of chicken or cr of celery soup to make it hardier. 3). Beef & gravy over mashed potatoes: heat as much canned beef as you need, mix and add a pkt of brown gravy, mix and break up beef chunks, make as much instant mashed as you need, serve along with your favorite canned veggies, top with some french fried onions. 4). Beef & mushrooms with noodles: combine canned beef, chopped canned mushrooms, cr of mushroom soup, a bit of canned milk if you like, mix very well, serve on top of egg noodles and green beans. 5). Sopa de fideo: short pasta, small bit of oil to toast the pasta, once toasted, add a can of finely diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato or chicken powder if you have it, prepared chicken broth, bring to a boil, turn heat down and simmer, add salt to taste, onion powder & garlic powder. It’s a smooth soup base so you may want to cook the tomatoes down. Serve with veggies and/or flour tortillas. A good lunch, a favorite with kids. 6). Broccoli cheddar soup from Bear Creek, prepare according to pkg, add pkg’d real bacon bits, serve with biscuits, it’s a good one to serve a dessert with because it’s a light meal.

I do something similar and one thing I do is laminate the recipe cards (you can get self sealing ones at many stores). That way I can reuse the cards multiple times and sort by recipient/person or families the kit(s) is/are intended for.

I really like this idea because the times you will likely use these kits... you're not going to want to have to think about recipes and balancing your rations. Definitely going to reorganize some of the prepper pantry into bags. Thank you.

If you can get ahold of them I highly recommend Ranch Style Beans. They are found in the canned bean section with Busch's beans. They have a black label. They are heavy seasoned like a texmex style and can be used in many different ways. Good to have on hand when seasonings run low because it packs a powerful punch. Throw in some some hamburger or smoked sausage with corn bread. Drain and save the juice, make beef and bean enchiladas and use the juice for a replacement of enchilada sauce. A couple of cans with rice makes a pretty tasty beans and rice don't even need to add meat to it, and yes you can use the rice in a bag or flavored boxed rices like Spanish rice. Or just eat straight out of the can.

I've been doing this for a while now and have converted our family favorite meals into shelf stable meals. I use my home canned meats most of the time. I have had so much fun creating these meals and helping my neighbors and friends to also convert their family favorite meals into shelf stable meals! Love love love this! ❤

Add tuna to the green bean casserole and it's a complete meal. I make a double batch of green bean casserole and add 2 cans of tuna (and cheese). My husband and 4 teenage sons love it! We also do a lot of mac and cheese based dinners (Mac and cheese, meat, veggie). Ramon noodles and powdered cheese with give you a alfredo variation. Our favorite was to add summer squashes to it
