This is what I've been doing for years. Even when meal planning, I base them on what I already have and supplement with what I don't (which is usually fresh veg or frozen) and then I use the rest of my sky budget to stock up on sale items I will use. Shopping your pantry is not just savings but also peace of mind. No matter what your family won't go hungry.
@jkgannon1049Ай бұрын
@elenacala Yes, have been doing this for decades. For example, I eat a lot of chicken, use cranberries in baking & cooking (with pork, a few beef dishes, desserts, dips, smoothies, etc). Last year at this time I picked up cranberry sauce & whole cranberry sauce, 36 cans at a buck a can (yes, full size can). Still have a few left but will go out & buy another couple of cases. I make turkey thru out the year & wish I had more freezer space. When I had a family I would have at least six turkeys in the freezer. She's spot on about knowing sales patterns & right down to what days of the sale to shop. BTW: French's BIG bag of fried onions were about a buck cheaper on Amazon than at Sam's for the same size.

I recently bought 40 lbs. of potatoes at $1.99 for ten pounds. The clerk asked, "what are you going to do with all those potatoes?" We are loading them in the car and a customer asked how I was going to store all of them. They thought we were nuts! I've gotten these kinds of reactions for years when I stock up on something when it is on sale. Most people just don't stock up like we do. I could save them so much money!!! I like having my own little grocery store at home.

@@melindaricker8443 My neighbor brought me a huge box of golden potatoes. No idea how much it weighed. They were flawed or not sellable. I spent a few days washing and scrubbing the skin. Boiled them all in 3 batches. Mashed and seasoned . Put big blobs on cookie sheets and froze them, then into freezer bags . My future self was really happy.

This is great. Seniors don't know what you do. I'm 73, a Kroger manager helped put on my phone the digital a n d it took 45 minutes, but it still does not work. I saw a lady in her 70s, and she was getting the mayo for $2.99. I told her it was not on sale until fri and sat at Food City. She said I couldn't come back on those days because I had someone to bring me to day. These stories are leaving lots of older people out of getting some good sales. Just saying

I would ask the cashier, to do the coupons for you that's what my mom does , I do believe it's discrimination for anyone who may not have a cell phone but for the older folks it's not right, Im sure in another decade those silent generation and boomers will be dead that leaves Generation X whom we started using computers, and phones won't need all the help. 😊.

Just a note: the Moms Best Cereal is made by the same company as the Malt O Meal cereals in the bag. The "Mom" in "Moms Best" actually is an acronym for 'M'alt 'O' 'M'eal. The ingredients and nutrition are the same, but they charge more for the boxes and market it to make it seem healthier.

When I'm at Winco, I always get the Family Size cans of Cream of Mushroom Soup.They're like 26 ounces (same size as the Great Value brand). Winco usually has them for like $1.23 and I'll get both cream of mushroom and chicken. Great Value brand is about 40 cents more but still cheaper than buying 2.5 cans, and most things I would use it for, I rarely use just 1 can. Love how you break this down. I also went to Grocery Outlet 4 times last week. Spend $35 and get a 13 pound Jenny-O turkey for $3.99. I just thawed and cooked them and froze for easy ready meals, and dehydrated 1 of them for dog treats and I'll freeze dry another one for dog treats and easy 'meals in a jar' that I make for my ex who is a truck driver. Thanks for breaking this all dow. Your information is invaluable. Keep doing it.

Turkeys are ONLY cheap during the Thanksgiving and Black Friday weekend - buy whatever you might use for the rest of the years. I like the 14-16 pound ones and I cook them in those bags - no mess and SO tender. Then I spend an hour or so picking off the meat and putting it in meal-size bags and strain and freeze the broth. I actually really like the zip loc bags at Dollar Tree. Then I have lots of turkey to last for months for all kinds of recipes. Also, check which stores are paired with Rakuten which is giving 12% cash back right now at lots of places.

Just a few weeks ago, they had 18ct eggs on sale with the coupon and I bought 5, because I will share with my daughter and also knew Thanksgiving was coming up and I would need eggs. But, I do my main shopping at Winco, which is approximately every 4-6 weeks. So, I was able to get a free turkey, since I was mainly just restocking my pantry. I'm actually using a turkey I had in the freezer from last year.
