Last week I had zero idea what a pantry moth was. This week, I can tell you everything dang thing about them: their likes, dislikes, coloring, prevention, and life cycle. I hate that I know all of this 🙃.
But, my misfortune is your gain! Imma teach you what I've learned!
I wish I had known more about them. And based off my stories this week (watch my highlight bubble if you haven't), most of you had no idea about them either.
This isn't to make you scared, but make you aware.
Commonly asked questions not addressed in the video:
•Yes, these are everywhere (at least in the US). They're not regional to where I live.
•They have a sense of smell and they love to find grains: rice, flour, dried fruit, pet food, nuts, pasta, rice, etc. but, they will find other things too. They spread to things beyond grains.
•Yes, they can come from the store. Already inside the packaging or on the outside. They can eat through plastic and cardboard. They often lay eggs or cocoon in corners of cardboard or creases in packages.
•IF you see adult moths in or near your pantry, it's likely there's a source. You NEED to find the source. Then, you need to likely trash open bags and boxes and deep clean. Eggs are SO small, as are cocoons. You can't see them all and if you miss them, they'll keep coming.
•IF you get them, it does not mean you're a dirty gross person. So, don't think that or let anyone tell you that . Sometimes it's just bad luck.
•IF they get in your recipe cards or books, place the book in an airtight Tupperware or ziplock and place it in your freezer for a few weeks.
•And yes, my nuts were in an air tight container, but the seal had broken and I didn't know. So, they snuck right in.
Knowledge is power, right?!
PS: this is all info I gathered from the internet, people who have had them, & pest control. If you have a question to ask or if have more to add, please do!
