The last game in the series, Panzer Dragoon Orta on the Xbox (which is backwards compatible) does have an unlockable version of the original PD in its Pandoras box mode. It's not a 100% spot on recreation of the Saturn version, but it's fairly close

fun fact the pandoras box mode of the original on Orta is actually an obscure PC port running natively on the og Xbox hardware not the Saturn port being emulated

@@Skims19 Makes sense they went with the PC version to play on Xbox. I had a big box copy of the pc version but sold it last year.

Never heard of this series, but I do find it interesting. I've just finished playing a few of the Ace Combat games and they got me thinking about how few true fantasy aerial combat games there are. I guess there's just something more satisfying about the way that a plane moves versus a flying creature or carpet.

This is the first that I've heard that the second Panzer Dragoon is also getting a remake and I am so psyched for it since I loved the first remake (warts and all) and had a lot of fun with it on my Switch in the early days of the pandemic! Awesome video; I really enjoyed this!

The developers have mentioned that if the remakes keep selling well enough, the intent is to remake all the entries in the series. Including Saga.

I should play this. I've always really gotten along with rail shooters like Space Harrier. There was also a Star Wars one my friend had growing up that I only remembered just now. So I assume next will be a review of Crimson Dragon, where you wave your arms frustrated for the Kinect while Microsoft saps away at your Visa?

A few games that this reminds me of is the "Sin and Punishment" games for N64 & Wii, and to a lesser degree Killer 7. Sin and Punishment for N64 has a similar feel to this game because of the chunky polygon graphics, but also some of the texture-work looks a bit similar. I really recommend you to check out the release they did for Wii's Virtual Console a few years back, sense that had a translated menus. And Killer 7 is a really interesting take of crossing an fps with a rail shooter, letting you control when to move your character forward (or backwards) on a set rail. The graphics are really cool in that one also. GG, keep up the great work! Hope you'll also review Panzer Dragoon Saga in the future. Never played that one myself, but it looks really interesting.

As I had expected, the remake loses the appeal despite keeping the gameplay intact. Its a shame. Some remakes are doomed to be inferior from the start.

There's something really funny about when you bring up the price of PD1 online because I just know you're thinking about Saga in the back of your mind🤣. Honestly, first playing the Saturn trilogy 2ish years ago was magical to me. I've never been immersed in a series so much. Going off what you were heading towards with the concept art, I think the limited tech of the Saturn assisted in allowing the player to interpret the trianglular characters and messy environments as close to the concept art. As a big comic fan, it really felt like they brought the simplistic characters and large backgrounds of a Moebius comic to life. I can still find fun in the remake, but it doesn't have that same charm as the original, which I think was even lost a bit by the PS2 Sega Ages version. Other question, you mentioned Mednafen, but have you tried out Kronos? It's super unstable for me at the moment, but Panzer Dragoon 1 runs beautifully for me. PD2 would crash 90% of the time I beat stage 2 and PDS hardly runs though.

I don't see much use in an emulator with less accuracy and compatibility compared to one I have zero problems running normally.

Even though it was cheating, I used a rapid fire controller to save my hands when playing the re-release. It was a fun and worthwhile playthrough.

Mix of getting overworked, taking time off and immediately getting sick, to getting overworked again while watching Twitch immolate themselves. Between this and all the OBS Streamlabs drama after I started using that to stream separately from regular OBS for recording, my streams might just be cursed. I was a guest on Kreal's stream last week though.

The worst thing about the remake IMO is that the lock-on group fire is a lot more finicky to pull off. Still, was worth the dollar I paid for it on PSN 😅

Ummm....you definitely don't understand Gen X gamers, my friend. We played games for the sheer challenge. Gaming publications would give a negative score to games that were too easy, and we loved them for it. We didn't even know the meaning of the words "cozy gaming." So, we were very happy that Panzer Dragoon was harder here in the States. As a matter of fact, we wore it like a badge of honor and I'll tell you why... Back then, most people did not have access to the internet, and we were extremely competitive. So when a game was made harder for our region, it gave us pride in knowing we were better than our Japanese rivals. There was a time when it was the other way around, and Japanese gamers were considered better. That really started to change at the dawn of the 16-bit Revolution.
