Panzer I Ausf B in Buntfarbenanstrich camouflage scheme (Brand new Tamiya 1/35 model kit)

Very nice build, Sir. Watching this video reminded me I have 2 Panzer 1 kits in my stash, the Dragon Model A and the Master Box "Breda" Spanish civil war 20mm-armed version.

Nicely done sir. The camo scheme is so unique, I don't think I've ever seen it captured in 1/35. You've done a brilliant & subtle rendition. It could have gone quite gaudy but yours shows restraint. Thank you.

That looks like a nice kit - perfect size for 1/16 too. It's nice to see other smaller vehicles in that scale - Gecko have recently done the Universal Carrier, I believe.

Good grief it is TINY! Seriously I didn’t realize how small those things were until til you put the jeep next to it. I agree with the others who like your choice of color scheme. It may very well be accurate as paint s hemes were changing as you showed, and later in the war paint became more and more difficult to obtain. I think one done up in the Afrika Corps colors would be terrific.

Thank you Mark. Yes, putting the figure in makes it looks small - but putting it next to the Jeep makes it look tiny! A shame we couldn't get another figure, since it only has a crew of two.

FYI: the picture at 16:25 is clearly not from the Nuremberg Rallies, as it shows the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin 🙂 Edit after watching to the end: Very nice job, Stu! It looks great, very unusual yet interesting camo scheme. Because of you I have put this kit on my wish list for my next order from Japan (where Tamiya kits are only about a third of any European price)!

I use dark iron for my tracks. I think of it as a base of what carbon steel looks like when in use. To me, it's the most accurate starting point there is.

I used Google to see hear what the pronunciation of buntfarbenanstrich sounded like. Not too difficult when you know where to 'split' the word up, lol! Simply: "Buntfarben"-"Anstrick" (with a 'soft' ck at the end). I'm sure you know what it means, but for anyone that doesn't, Google says it means "Colourful Paint".

If you allow me to get my two cents in, you are almost correct. The meaning of "Buntfarbenanstrich" is "a paint job with more than one color", so the literal translation would rather be "colorful coat of paint".

Great to see a different scheme than the usual panzer grey! Looks really effective… how do you find the VMS range of varnishes? I’ve just grabbed some to try from Telford show and their airbrush thinners 2.0. Sprayed it near and found it dried very quick. Then thinned it 1:1 and found the satin dried Matt and quite tacky on an old kit I have. Would be good to hear your thoughts. Many thanks Marc, and thanks again for the great content!

Thanks Marc. I find the VMS matt easy to use straight from the bottle. I stuggle more with the satin and gloss, struggling to get a uniform finish. To the point that I don't want to gloss coat my F1 cars sith it in case I mess it up. Maybe I should try thinning it.

@ when I tried thinning it the appearance was not at all satin and even thinning it less than 50%… let’s say 20% still have quite a reduced satin look. I think the trick with it is to get it on there as they say and let it level out. Working on the airfix Lancaster at the moment and obviously don’t want to be messing up the varnish on that. It’s taken me best part of 2 months of evenings to get this far. Copper state model minerva up next for me! Can’t wait to build it, such a beautiful looking kit. Best wishes. 👍👍

Which would you say is better between Academy products and Tamiya products?

I don't have the Academy product, but I know another channel (I forget who) recently did separate reviews of each, with a comparison. The Academy includes two tank crew figures and a motorbike with rider, I believe.

Great job. But Dude! Why did you paint the 2 mmg gunmetal? In reality they had a blued (black finish). I do not get why most modellers paint mmg on vehicles and aircraft gunmetal. As in reality they were all mostly blued(black) finish
