(army, not a tank, and they don't sing the rest of the line at all^^) 02:31 Und droh'n vor uns Geschütze, versteckt im gelben Sand...= And if the artillery threatens us, hidden in the yellow sand... ( not: sheltered= "geschützT", it's' "GeschütZ"= a different kind of artillery; a mortar etc.) 03:23 Dann wird unser Panzer ein ehernes Grab = Then our tank will become a "tomb of marriage" (not: iron grave = eisernes Grab)

@@Sternburg Stimmt schon, was die Bedeutung von "ehern" angeht. Aber... erstere Bedeutung als "aus Erz/Eisen/Bronze bestehend" entfällt doch, weil nicht die materielle Bedeutung, sondern vielmehr die Zeit und das Verhältnis gemeint sind. Hier wirds schon philosophisch und gilt als gehobene Bedeutung im Sinne von "gefestigt, (für die) Ewigkeit, ewiger Grundsatz/Wille/Bekundung/ usw. Es drückt also den festen Stand, den unbeirrbaren Willen/Treue usw. auf alle Zeit/Ewigkeit zu einer Sache/Person aus. Die "Ehe" drückt mit ihrem Bekundungswillen zu ewiger Verbundenheit/Treue mit dem Partner (hier Panzer), genau das aus. Eine unzertrennliche Verbundenheit, den Willen eine Einheit zu sein, für alle Ewigkeit, bis über den Tod hinaus, komme was wolle. (Bei einer "Ehe" mit "nicht-Panzern" zumindest bis zur Scheidung^^) Somit erschien mir die Übersetzung als "Tomb of marriage" treffender, da ich dachte, dass "iron grave" nur das Material wie bei einer Statue aus Eisen meint, also die Härte beschreibt und nicht die gehobene Bedeutung. Mit "Tomb of marriage" dachte ich, würde man im englischen dem gehobenen Sinn vll. näher kommen. Mag sein, dass es dafür aber eine bessere Redewendung gibt. Denn wenn du mit jmd. "ein Hühnchen zu rupfen" hast, dann würdest du ja auch den Sinn übersetzen "to have a bone to pick with sb" und nicht sagen "I have to pluck you a chicken" oder so.^^ Kann sein, dass ich mich irre, doch bin ich mir sicher, dass man hier nicht (negativ) vom Panzer als Sarg/Grab aus Erz/Eisen singt, sondern, dass auch wenn man stirbt, man weiterhin für alle Zeit, treu dem Eid, mit seinem Panzer/Kamerad vereint bleibt. Frei nach dem Gruß Totgeweihter der damaligen Zeit: "Wir sehn uns in Walhalla".

My Opa was a Gunner, first in a Panzer III and later hr was selected in a Tiger I. He was part of the Panzer Division under Genrral Hoth. He was a brave Man and no Criminal despite He was a National Socialist and in the Beginning He voted even for Hitler. Later He regreted this, He told me when He was woundet He saw and heard the rumors of the Konzentrations Lager and saw with His own eyes despicable Scenes... from this point on He was no longer a National Socialist.
