I as a German person am fascinated, that people from other countries love our marches. I appreciate it. I grew up with this because my grandpa played them very often - and we all rolled our eyes in former times. I changed my opinion about that. Great music, but the best march ever ever ever is „Prussia’s Glory“. Thank you. ❤️

I've been looking for a few days for Das Westerwaldlied! I'd forgotten the name, so I was just listening to German marching songs in hopes of finding it. I used to enjoy it on a 78 record way back in the 1950s, played by a fellow-student at my school. I was so happy to find it here ... I just finished laboriously scoring it from memory, in the hope of finding someone who would recognize it! I can hear that my memory from 60 years ago is remarkably accurate. Thank you! The medley I scored from memory included a couple of other marches, I will post an MP3 if I can figure out how to put it on KZbin and link it here in case someone may recognize the other tunes in it.

This makes me think of a honorable and respectable old fellow and he will remain named as such! A good old boy in a small town Idaho who I became friends with when I was in my early teens working at a bowling alley. He had one eye that was not missing but was milky white that was caused by his service in World war II. I being a young individual with fascination for World war II memorabilia, with the help of my parents ordered a k98 with my earnings. It was delivered just down the road from the bowling alley I worked. This old fellow always in a black cowboy hat and button-up shirt with his raspy old voice and all came in regularly to drink whiskey. Being my young self and even today respected and looked up to him. And I still do! May he RIP He was a good old man was there the day I got a call from the local FFL knowing where I worked at that particular time that my package had arrived. I gleefully went down to get it with my mother who was serving in the bar. I was a lane runner. We went there quickly and came back to finish our shift. This man that we will call the one-eyed sniper as that is what he was in World war II. Asked me what did I get? I proudly presented him a k98k carbine in perfect condition that I've been saving up for a year. The old boy doesn't hesitate and asked promptly with a kind and raspy voice.... May I? As he caressed it and looked at it with glassy eyes one of which he could only see from. He slowly ran his hands up and down the length of the rifle that still smelled of 60 year old cosmoline. He fiddled with the sights and the bolt and all.... silently looking at it for what must have been 10 minutes. Boy did I get a story afterwards!
