Great Tiger is the very last of the 'simple' histories. The next eight fights will be very interesting.

I do remember that Great Tiger was the first character to give me real problems in MTPO when I first actually owned it, back when I was 12 in 1990. I remember telling my parents of the amazing replay value of this game before they got it for me, likely as a selling point, and I stand by that statement to this day.

I'm not sure if anyone knows this, but there's an easier way to tell Great tiger is about to throw a jab. Hold up to raise his guard, and when the gem flashes, GT will drop his guard, even though you're holding up. Then just face punch for a star.
@Papamanual
@Papamanual 8 ай бұрын
That is a nifty way to see he is getting ready to jab, much more obvious than just waiting for his gem flash. Nice find.

I'm convinced the programmers accidentally reversed the round intros for Great Tiger. Every other boxer with a fancy intro and/or different music always does their stuff before round 1 only, and just boringly moves out of the corner for rounds 2 and 3. Great Tiger does the exact opposite.
@Papamanual
@Papamanual 5 ай бұрын
very cool of you to spot that. There is something unique about each fighter, besides the very obvious things. And although I have not made an extensive checklist... I believe there is a similarity between any 2 fighters, that excludes all other fighters (besides the obvious palette swaps/punch repertoire)

Excited for Matt Turks 57.99 BB1 time. Salt pointed out in "The Quest to beat Matt Turk" that the time was listed as both 57.99 and 58.99, so hopefully the BB vid will clear that up

We skipped the opening minute stun creation by punch, block, 5 stun jabs? That was the OG round one strat.
@Papamanual

Ah yes, I did think about that one. Wasnt sure if it was considered a speed strat or more of a casual one. I just stuck with what was on RedTom's website as the "beginning" of speed strats.

Great video again as always Pap, i have 2 questions though, do you speedrun MTPO, and is the Mr. Dream version of the game the same as the Mike Tyson version?
@Papamanual
@Papamanual Жыл бұрын
I used to speedrun it. I have a 15:24 which was good enough for 3rd place at the time I believe. Mr Dream version is the same as the Mike Tyson version (except they partially fixed the clockstop glitch on the Mr dream version - I cant exactly remember what about it was different, but there is something)... Also this is for the NTSC (NA version) of the game... Mr Dream version is different to Tyson version on PAL (European version)
@iceattack7
@iceattack7 Жыл бұрын
@@Papamanual Cause I tried some of the speedrun methods but in some parts where you could punch someone in MTPO, you couldn't in Mr dream version, I think they made the fights slightly different, but you can still do Glass Joe 42 sec lol :)

(This is unrelated to this video. I just watched your other breakdowns of MTPO. I figured you might not see my question in those comment thread's) How does the tas get the good RNG? Do you have to grind out attempts. Or can you mess with the programming of the game?II know you can manipulate the RNG. But, it doesn't seem feasible to be able to get all you need if the odds are 1 in a million odds like they can be in some of the fights. P.s. I just found your channel... Great breakdown videos. Very informative, entertaining, easy to understand.

Anything MTPO I LOVE! I was SO SO happy when I was a child and FINALLY beat Mike Tyson. oddly enough, of ALL fighters to give me a hard time for the LONGEST time, it was actually Soda popinski. I didnt know about the black/star drink so i NEVER could get a star on him...took me so many fights to get good enough when I was 9 years old...

So, one thing I'm curious about, both in this fight and some of the others we've seen, is why do frame-perfect stars exist? In your explanation of how stars work, you made it seem like you can only get a star when the punch counter is 1, or when you land a punch and roll a random star, as long as the opponent isn't stunned. So why then does timing a punch on the last possible frame before Tiger would block give you a star, where punching any earlier doesn't?
@Papamanual
@Papamanual Жыл бұрын
So for great tiger, the punch counter is always set at 1, so everytime you land a punch that could give a star, it ends up being star... A frame perfect delayed punch doesnt count as a 'dodge & stun punch' Frame perfect delayed punch is just a special case of the delayed punch (where it needs to be delayed to the final frame) some delayed punches have wider windows... up to 6 frames from memory.
@Papamanual
@Papamanual Жыл бұрын
To answer your last question, if you punches in the face earlier, it would count as a dodge and counter punch, and not give you a star.
